Users are encouraged to use as many shared variables as possible that are practicable and relevant to their projects; we do not recommend using all of the variables in the spreadsheet for any given project or platform

The Framework does not provide a comprehensive list of variables for any given project or project type; additional variables will be needed based on the type and needs of specific projects (e.g. ecosystem type, funding requirements)

The Framework assumes that ecosystem restoration goals, if met, would yield positive gains for biodiversity, ecosystem integrity, and human wellbeing

Baseline is defined as the condition immediately prior to the initiation of restoration activities

We recommend that each platform has a polygon drawing tool so that GIS files can be created for each restoration project site

We recommend that the primary unit used to collect data is the project, which can be aggregated up to the program level, whether that be within one organization or a larger planning unit, or disaggregated into sites or intervention units (i.e. distinct restoration areas). GIS and activity (intervention) data are best collected at the site level. Individual projects may include multiple sites, sources of funding, partners, and goals and objectives

A glossary of terms will be developed for many terms (e.g. "under restoration")

The Framework indicates the information we want to collect, not the details of how it is collected; for instance, some platforms will be able to autogenerate some data using available GIS data (e.g. Ecoregion)
