We can identify different factors that slow our progression:

1) Elevation: the steepness of the slope. (uphill or downhill)

2) Distance: the duration (in distance or cumulative elevation)

3) Altitude: the lack of oxygen to produce energy

4) Weight carried: The weight we carry (unsupported style, backpack...)

5) Technicality: the dificulties of the terrain that slow our progression.

7) Others (style, onsight, new route, virgin terrain, virgin mountain, open track, etc)
