This is the right module for you if:

You have taken (and passed) FREN4001 French A1, or
You have a GCSE (Grades C or below) in French, or

A2.1FREN4002French post Beginners This is a lower-intermediate module, which will enable you to consolidate your knowledge and skills in French. You will develop your ability to read, write, listen and speak in simple French, in informal and semi formal communication. You will be able to use expressions related to straightforward situations (e.g. talking about cultures, places, events, impressions, festivals and customs, work, people and places in France or other Francophone countries).

In terms of grammar, you will be able to consolidate the use of the perfect tense, cases, prepositions and adjective endings. You will familiarise yourself with conjunctions, subjunctive, imperfect and relative clauses.

French Intermediate Language and Culture
This module will help you to strengthen a B1 level of French which will allow you to develop your ability to communicate by speaking and writing in French at different levels of formality. It follows a communicative approach, which means that you will be using French in class to communicate with your classmates and teacher.

The module covers topics like work, personal life, conversations about geography and culture, art, current events, protests, and global problems, social customs, art and cinema, politics, society and education in the French-speaking world. In terms of grammar, you will master the use of past and future tenses, and become familiar with the use and patterns of structures to express prohibition and permission, conditional sentences, direct and indirect object pronouns, imperative, connecting words and present subjunctive tense.

B1.2FREN4005French Intermediate 2This module will help you achieve an intermediate level of French which will allow you to develop your ability to communicate by speaking and writing in French at different levels of formality. You will develop your ability to read, write, speak and understand spoken French of moderate complexity by practising the language in informal and formal communication in settings such as travel, study, common contemporary issues and matters of personal interest.Fri 9:00 - 12:00

You have a GCSE (Grades C or below), or

A2.1SPAN4002Spanish post Beginners This is a lower-intermediate module, which will enable you to consolidate your knowledge and skills in Spanish. You will develop your ability to read, write, listen and speak in simple French, in informal and semi formal communication. You will be able to use expressions related to straightforward situations (e.g. e.g. shopping, likes and dislikes, local geography, employment). You will be able to describe in simple terms aspects of your background, immediate environment and matters in areas of immediate need.

In terms of grammar, you will be able to consolidate the use of sentences to provide personal information in informal contexts, and you will familiarise yourself with different past tenses and their different uses, imperative, present continuous, expressions to forbid and allow, conditionals and impersonal sentences.

Spanish Intermediate Language and Culture

B1.2SPAN4005Spanish Intermediate 2This module will develop your Spanish language skills at an intermediate level. You will be able to gain confidence when speaking and writing in Spanish at different levels of formality and you will extend your knowledge of Spanish-speaking cultures.

This module covers topics like advertising, current events, social justice, and it explores different registers (formal and informal) in spoken and written communication. In terms of grammar, you will become familiar with the usage and patterns of the imperative tense, the use of subjunctive to express feelings and opinions, of the pluperfect tense to tell stories and anecdotes in the past, and of the indirect style to convey messages from others.
