Welcome to the Heart of Texas Planning Year Long-term Plan!

The Heart of Texas Planning Year (or Year 1) Journey has been designed using research, lessons learned from 2020-21, and methods that have (and will continue to be) tested and revised both within TX projects and projects across Transcend. It was developed in collaboration with TX vets and other Transcendersto support partners to build a School Design Blueprint and grow Conditions through a rigorous, liberatory, R&D process. We’ve provided this LTP plan to support you in understanding the overall Heart of Texas Journey.

For consistency of quality, we hold the outcomes of the journey, and at times specific methods, tight across all partners. With that said, a truly community-driven approach with a truly effective Design Partner will require real-time moves, adjustments, shifts, etc. that meet the community needs on the way to the goal posts they have set. In order to do this, internalizing our journey is important so you can move and pivot in informed ways.

Just like a long-term plan for a course, the Heart of Texas LTP includes:
*The overall goals for the Planning Year (TX RPR Goals)
*A high-level overview of how we’ll drive toward those goals (Overview of the Journey), and
*Several “views” of our Scope and Sequence (School Design Blueprint, Conditions, FIT, Priorities by Phase, R&D Activities by Phase).

This is a BIG document with a lot of rich information. You are not expected to internalize everything here in one sitting; that would be a clear violation of the science of learning! Rather, this tool is here to support you to see the bigger picture and is something you can return to as you prepare to support your school partners. Some people will find this supportive, and others may find it overwhelming. You are in the driver’s seat to get what you need from this tool! Additionally, know that all of the content represented here is a direct match with what is in the Unit Plan for each Phase; this sheet just consolidates all of that into one place so that -- for those who find it helpful -- you can see the full arc of the journey. You can access the Unit Plans on our Google Site here.

Please check out the guidance below for more details and tips for how you might use different components of this plan to support your understanding of the work.

Overview of the LTP Components
9
TX Results, Process, Relationships (RPR) GoalsThis tab contains the top-line Results, Process, and Relationship goals and measures for our Heart of Texas work. These goals guide our overall work with partners. Throughout the year, we’ll step back periodically as a team to reflect on our progress toward these goals.
10
Overview of the JourneyThis tab provides a high-level overview of the Planning Year scope and sequence and key outputs by phase. The overview contains partner-facing language we will use to communicate, in broad strokes, how the work will unfold over the next 10 months. If you are finding yourself lost in the details, dig in here to remind yourself of the big picture.
11
School Design BlueprintOur major deliverable for the planning year is a completed School Design Blueprint. This tab spells out how we’ll make progress on drafting and revising the Blueprint throughout the planning year, including when we will work on specific sections in each of the 5 phases.
12
ConditionsAs we support our partners to envision their new school in the Blueprint, we will also help them strengthen critical Conditions for innovation. This tab outlines when and how we’ll support partners to understand their current Conditions as well as key strategies for growing Conditions throughout the planning year. Please note: This tab contains planned Conditions strategies and is not comprehensive. Throughout the Journey, teams will engage in proactive and reactive Conditions work both through the activities in the journey and through additional strategies aligned to each partner’s unique needs.

Fidelity of Implementation
(FIT) Tracker
In addition to supporting teams to complete the key deliverables for the planning year (the Blueprint, Journey Plan, and Insights Notebook), you will also support District PMs to complete and submit all requirements outlined in the FIT. This tab gives you a quick overview of the FIT deliverables and deadlines. Please note: this content is aligned to the 2020-21 FIT requirements and will be updated for 2021-22 once the FIT is released.
14
Priorities by PhaseDuring each phase of the planning year, we will be working towards priorities aligned to strengthening the design, building conditions, meeting FIT requirements, and stewarding a rigorous, community-driven design process. In this tab, we have organized all of the priorities in these categories across the 5 phases. There is a lot of content here, and we do not expect that you will internalize all of this before jumping into the work. In fact, you will likely engage most deeply with these priorities as you leverage the Unit Plans to internalize and prepare for each phase of the journey. We have provided it in full here to help illuminate how the work unfolds in each phase and to help you situate specific activities within the broader journey.
15
R&D Activities by PhaseA rigorous, community-driven R&D Process is at the heart of our work with partners. You could think of the entire planning year as one big R&D cycle with Phase 1 and 2 heavy in Learn and Envision and Phase 3 and 4 focused more on Build and Try. However, when you really dig into the work of a phase, you will see that we actually engage in activities in all parts of the cycle in each phase. In fact, we often engage in several “mini” R&D cycles throughout the phase. This tab was developed to help illuminate how the R&D cycle shows up across the phases of the planning year. You may use this tab, for example, to get a better sense of how we’ll continue to Learn beyond the initial work in the fall, and how we’ll Try from the very beginning.
