Very few restaurants locally.3Don't know4Don't know65544Litter and fly tipping is a big issue. Local McDonalds creates lots of litter in the area.Fine McDonalds!!

2021-07-03WaterlooHD5 0A35 - 44femaleWant to share views as live and work in waterloo3
There are a number of constant areas where not only are people forced into walkin in the road by insenstive pavement parking but alwo housegolds who do not maintain their garden trees overgrowing to the point you cant get on the path. Many a time ive seen not only women with prams walkin in the road on waterloo road but people from hospice being pushed in wheelchairs. They shouldnt have to go in the road!
6Frequent buses on wakefield road.4
As of a previous answer some of the pavement parkin in the area has got so bad you are forced into walkin in the road. An example i have had a few times recently is the mcdelivery drivers parkin on the corner of the retail park that far near the wall even myself alone couldnt get between the car and the wall! Walking in a fast main road was not safe and unnecessary for one ignorant driver
5
I work in the waterloo gallagher retail park and the gangs of kids that loiter evenings and weekends fill the green space and the river side with so much litter it never looks nice whoch is such a shame. Also they make it so so difficult for not only pedestrians but vehicles to move safely in this public shopping area by speeding round on electric scooters and doin wheelies in bikes esp on weekends. I watch it from work and i dont onow how these kids havent caused a fatality or at least serious accident yet
4
As noted on the previous question, as a worker in the retail park plus i love across from the stream in waterloo its such a shame the level of litter i see in the green soaces folowing the water. Many times see gangs of kids in both areas throwin rubbish from mcds in there. Also on my road u frequently at the weekend see drivers throwing mcds take outs out of there cars onto our road. The industrial park above the retail park which ajoins the beautiful countryside at the weekend just looks like a landfill with drivers sat up there with theor drive thrus throwing it out of car window and leaving!!! Best time to see this goin on is sundays esp after retail park closes at 4
4
With not havin kids and mainly being between home and the retail park i cant really form an honest opion as theres areas im probably unaware of.
6
I think we have a food balanced level of shops, eateries, schools, surgeries etc. It is especially good to have access to Mill Hill as for a simple blood test for example saves me near 10 poind in travel there and back to lindley to hri!
5
I think, and esp since havin joined a local community social media group, that not only has places like morissons and the retail park offered constant sources of wmployment but in the last two years have seen a rise in the area of self employed individuals. A lot of these offer not only jobs but also apprentiships for yoinger people. Through this a lot of businesses help each other out on facebook and esp theough the pandemic has been a good way for local people to communicate and support each other
6
I think we have a great benefit in waterloo in that not only do we have a good number of housing but we have the bonus of the countryside being a few mins walk aways to escape if we need to! I have severe mental health problems esp with depression and the fact i can leave the house and escape to somewherre beautiful and quieter is a god send
4
I’m not really sure either way on an answer for this. I think in general there are places to meet outdoors and obviously pub and cafes. But im unsure of any other places in the area to see people. I suffere with severe depression and cos i dont have any friends in waterloo its been a tough year for feeling isolated.
5
I think the community in waterloo are generally warm and welcoming and the area is ok. However areas ive mentioned before are starting to make it look like a landfill in places. For example since the gym closed the nice walk on their onto the little path to morrisons is awful as is the walk up the industrial estate to the countryside for one and sane reason - litter. And most of it is drive theu discarded rubbish. I cannot understand how people can be so lazy and disgusting
3
The gangs of kids evenings and weekends are really intimadating. Not only for example on my road do theor force people off the pavement on their bikes and electric scooters, frequently at weekends, but as stated by many public in the retail park they are shouting obsenities, causing obstrustions, littering everywhere they go and being a general nuisance. The speed of the traffic on sunday afternoons in an afternoon also is a constant concern. They treat my road like a silverstone race course. We have constant quad bikes and bikers with no helmets up and down revving on a weekend esp sundays and you just dont feel safe being on the road
5
I think people from other areas with their drive thrus are the reason a lot of the areas in waterloo dont look cared for. The total disregard in ref to litter is terrible. And to be honest its just getting worse and such a shame. We have a couple of retired people that lotter pick on our road and if we didnt it would just be littered with mcdonalds all the time
4
I wish there was a way i could be more helpful in supporting the community and makin waterloo better. The negative side i see is that no powers can control these gangs and drivers who litter and drive off for example so i cant see either problem being solved. Ive worked i. The retail park for 8 years and weve been informed on a few occasions we were going to have more visavle community support officers helping with the problems and ive seen them once! I dont know how we can combat these problems. However on a positive note as i work and live here ive grow. To know a lot of faces and people and i can offer support and be a friendly face when they need one. They dont just speak to me as a shop worker they speak to me about their lives and if i can offer support i will. It helps my mental health too. I think also with social media local groups such as the dalton waterloo moldgreen one i an in have brought another type of support and alsk comminication for people around.
As said previously i think the major problems lettin waterloo down is litter, parking and gangs. We have a lot of elderely people in waterloo and these gangs even un- nerve and intomidate me when im working. They can be frightening and its always always been a concern while ive worked there.
I think at least on weekends there should be more support and visavle presence fron the police as in way of at least some community support officers. I think there such be fines and a waning to these drivers causin people to walk in the road when they shouldnt have to. Breaks my heart watchiin the elderely or people from the hospice having to go in the road because of selfish parking esp as people drive like mania s round here. The litter i dont know how to combat that esp as i say a lot of it is thrown from cars and they drive off. I watch it everyday. Sunday when we close work at 4 i guarantee u theres lasd skiddin around in cars like nutters and whe they stop they go get mcds park up and throw it out of window and drive off. Its horrible and i dont know how anyone will ever combat this sort of problem. It just makes me sad and angry

Walking around the are can be difficult at times due to hedges growing out covering the pavement. Also parked cars on roads that are not neccesary and sometimes both! Have to walk in the road sometimes, hard for elderly, disabled and mobility scooters with the speed of traffic that is now endemic.
3
A long walk for the elderly on Waterloo Road and Woodford Drive (mainly elderly residents) to the nearest bus stops. Also the 261 route is not reliable cam be 2 hours as they regularly miss arrival. There fore have to walk a long way to Wakefield road stop near Stella Griffiths opticians.
4
As before vehicles parking on pavements. Difficultto cross most roads due to traffic speeds on most roads. Waterloo Road in particular where overtaking at great speeds and speed in general. As a driver if I drve on Waterloo Road art 30MPH all traffic in front is soon gone. Those behind tailgate with frustration. As this is the main artery route to the M62 this is why the speeds. My own opinion is that 40MPH is a minimum to all drivers on this road.
5
Easy apart from overgrowm hedges and cars parked on pavements uneccesarly. Also weeds outside garden walls in places that no one seems to be bothered about and make the are unattractive.
5Some woodland could do with some tidying up but who will do that?6
Could do with some benches for a rest when walking etc. To just sit and relax when getting out. But would probably be wrecked by yob lads showing off to girs how tough they are.
6
Plenty of shops with the retail park and some small local shops. Nearby doctors chemists, hairddressers etc.
4Not alot of industry but some retail work in the area.5Waterloo has generaly a reasonaable quality of homes.1No. Only council estates have community centres.1
No. Everyone is all for themselves. The pandemic has shown how selfish people have become.
6
Not a bad area here and along with home security my family and I feel fairly safe. Slight problems with neds (non educated deliquents) from the council estate harrassing you on their e-scooters illegaly riding on pavements intimidating you to get out of their way. also deliberate damage to flowers, shrubs etc. Sometime throw stones at youw windows.
2
Weeds outside garden walls, overgrown hedges etc make the area look downtroden. Residents should be made to do outside their property on the pavement. I am sure it is still a local bye-law for residents to do this. The woodland at the top of Waterloo Road is spilling out over the pavement, brambles, nettles, weeds etc. No one semms responsible for this area. Have to walk in the road sometimes.
1No Council only discuss things with council tenants.
Traffic speeds. Parking on pavements. Overgrown hedges. Drains cleared to stop flooding as rain from Kirkheaton pools at Waterloo Road / Albany Road Junction.
Speeding - Nothing will be done until someone is killed maybe. (Not under any illusion there. Tideiness of area. - Inform residents to keep their area outside the home free of weeds growing out of their garden. Parking on pvements - Issue notices or fines as this causes damage to pavements that are not built for the weight of vehicles and cost the coincil money to repair eventually. Drains - clean after leaf fall in autumn after sweeper has swept as the sweeper pushes someleaves into drains.

AS REGARDS WALKING AROUND THERE ARE ALWAYS CARS PARKED IN PAVEMENT AREAS MAKING IT DIFFICULT FOR SOME TO GET ABOUT THE AREA.
5YORKSHIRE TIGER BUSES ARE IN POOR CONDITION. FIRST BUSES ARE EXPENSIVE TO USE. THE BUS SERVICE AS REGARDS FREQUENCY AND TIMING IS GOOD.2
INCONSIDERATE PARKING OCCURS ON SUNNYMEAD EVERY TIME A BOWLING MATCH TAKES PLACE. EVERYONE NOWADAYS THINKS THE PAVEMENT IS FOR PARKING, I DISAGREE IT IS FOR PEDESTRIANS. THE PAVEMENTS OUTSIDE THE SHOPS AT WATERLOO ARE USED REGULARLY FOR PARKING.
2
THE AREA BEHIND THE SHOPS AT WATERLOO IS FULL OF RUBBISH. VERY UNTIDY AND NOT SAFE. THERE ARE TOO MANY FOOD SHOPS AT WATERLOO, CAUSING NOISE AND LITTER.
53THERE IS NOWHERE AT WATERLOO FOR CHILDREN TO PLAY SAFELY.5555ARE THERE ANY PLACES TO MEET AT WATERLOO?53
THE PAVEMENTS UP SUNNY MEAD HAVE HAD NO ATTENTION FOR YEARS, WEEDS EVERYWHERE BROKEN KERBSTONES ETC. PARTS OF WATERLOO ARE VERY NEGLECTED.

Pavements are uneven in places. There have been a few falls/trips/ therefore they require resurfacing/or repairing. Roads have been spot repaired too many time,. They require professional resurfacing and lane markings improved. Walkway from Waterloo Road, over the river onto the old railway line and up to the church requires attention It is impassable because of high weeds etc.
4
Waterloo Road has three bus stops each direction of travel. Only buses to use one of these is the school bus. We do not have a bus service travelling along Waterloo Road. Potential for the Wakefield Bus Service to be diverted down Long Lane, onto Albany Road and Waterloo Road, to re-connect with Wakefield Road. This would provide a better and useful service taking traffic off of a large section of Wakefield Road. Reinstate the 262 Bus service from Huddeersfield to Mirfield, Dewsbury.
3
Albany Road - Householders use Albany Road for car parking, when there are garages with access road behind the houses. Vehicles are always parked onto the pavements, reducing access for wheelchairs, pushcairs etc. The Hospice uses the other side of Albany Road as an extendion to their car parking. Users park their vehicles onto the pavement, reducing access for wheelchair using residents of the bungalows free access/travel. Bin collection days - again the pavements are blocked with bins left on the roadside.
4
There are too many sites of derelict/vacant land which is privately owned and not cultivated. Both street and road signage needs either, updating, cleaning or replacing. There are trees and bushes which are obliterating road signage. Waterloo Road traffic exceed the speed limit on a daily basis. There is a need for either a speed camera or a sign that flashed when the 30 mph limit is exceeded. Attention to the two small roundabouts on Albany Road. Travellers from the Kirkheaton area travel down the road very fast, not always slowing down, or stopping, but chancing they can speed through.
6
We are blessed with lots of natural spaces however they have become dumping grounds for rubbish. Natural spaces especially the Roundwood environment are not being maintained, cleared of fallen trees etc. which make it unsafe walking space The plot of land on Waterloo Road, near the bridge would make a wonderful playing area for children, and a community area with seating. The walkway by the river up near the old railway bridge could also be better maintained and provide a wonderful wild life/bird watching area.
4
Land on Albany Road, at the end of Waterloo Road, could be turned into a sports/recreational area for football etc. instead of being left in a neglected manner.
6
A small library with a community shop/cafe would bring people together. This would be ideally placed on the precinct of shops on Wakefield Road, at Waterloo.
5
Plenty of work area especially the Tandem Estate. There used to be a training centre for people with disabilites on the site., which provided work for people with a range of disabilities. A vacant lot on the Tandem Estate could provide a wonderful training facilities for people requireing mandatory training for their work and also NVQ training contract with Huddersfield Technical College/University?
6
Variety of housing available. Before any more are considered will the capability of the Doctors, Dentist, Schools etc. be taken into account? Any new housing development will require a better road infrastructure thatn is available.
4
A Community Centre would be an asset. It could provide access to information centre, library, exchange, food bank ideas. Where do mums and young children go for opportunity to meet and talk? there used to be baby clinics etc. available
5
Yes it does have a positive identity but additional assets could improve this as stated on previous pages i.e. community centre, recreational areas, somewhere to sit outside and meet everyone Garden and seating space
6
Vacant spaces/land have encouraged illegal camping/fly tipping which detracts from the general upkeep and safety of the area Moldgreen Police Station taken away has not helped Have not seen a police patrol over the last 3-4 years. Community policing is sorely missed.
5
Local dog owners use the two green spaced along waterloo road for their dogs to foul. Most do have bags but there are no signs nor bins for disposal, therefore there is littering.
5
Our voices are heard at the election, however I cannot remember when last we had any sight of any councillor I do not feel they know the area. If they did then this question would not be being asked.
Maintenance of roads, pavements enforcing the law regarding vehicles parking on pavements and blocking access Maintenace of green spaces and improving them
I am not sure why you are asking the question of a resident? Surely the council have the facility to decision make, and budget funding?

I don't currently cycle but have cycled to the local supermarket and found that i did not feel safe crossing the large junction on my route.
3
My daughter uses the buses and complains that if she buys a return ticket at the start of her journey she then finds that the bus coming back does not accept the return ticket because it is run by a different company. This is off-putting.
3
I feel that there is too much traffic, it's a bit of problem when out walking my dog as cars go too fast on some roads. It would be better if there were fewer cars so that the air is less polluted.
3
I think there are very few landmarks in the area but at least we don't have far to go to find open spaces; fields, hills, nice walks (Dalton Nature Reserve for eg.). I hope these spaces can be kept clear of development. There are some derelict grounds nearby (Cold Royd) which attracts fly-tipping, and Crossley Lane has derelict land on either side for years- it would be lovely to have a park with a lake just there!
4
I'm quite lucky because I live next to a river, however, there is a sewage drain in the woods which smells pretty bad when there's been a lot of rain. I can go for walks to the Nature Reserve as well as to Gawthorpe, although that route is by road but it is very quiet. I'm unaware of any seating anywhere in these places. Much of it would not be accessible for everyone, particularly disabled because there are narrow styles and/or steps, or rough terrain.
1
I don't think there is anywhere children can play safely or anywhere for teenagers to go.
2
There are shops, a chemist and doctors surgery but I'm not aware of anywhere for learning. The nearest gym is expensive. The only place to meet friends over a coffee is Morrisons (in Waterloo).
3I don't think there is a variety of jobs or enough opportunities to access good-quality work locally.4I don't know as I have a house of my own.2
There's hardly anywhere to meet if the weather is bad except for Morrison cafe.
4
It's ok but it could be better, and I only know about my road, not the surrounding streets. I like where I live and the neighbours are all nice people. I don't know of any history, heritage or culture or if it's celebrated. I don't feel part of a large community.
5I feel safe here.54
We had invitations from the doctors surgery about future needs within the NHS as well as a survey from the local council about waste and recycling.
Environment - less traffic, make crossing roads easier. Make cycling easier/safer. Provide places for people to meet.Make public transport work better, have more safe road crossing areas.

Waterloo has become far too busy. Trying to cross the road or reverse out of my driveway is hazardous. Even walking on pavement doesn’t feel safe as very sadly been proved lately
4Plenty of buses on Wakefield road, but no buses on Waterloo road1
Gallagher retail park and doctors surgery don’t have sufficient parking for their clients making people park dangerously on pavements etc. The volume of traffic coming up and down Waterloo road is dangerous and intrusive, if planning permission is given to the takeaway at crown motors this will make an already hazardous junction more dangerous. The car fumes are dangerous and need to be urgently assessed
2
Waterloo used to be an attractive and sort after area, it has too many takeaways and not enough independent shops
2
Even though the wood is beautiful on Waterloo road the traffic fumes and pollution spoil this. Litter and noise
1Hopefully the gym will reopen2422Not since the gym shut2No it used to have2No2No2
No first time been asked for opinion Have put a objection in to takeaway at crown motors

2021-07-04WaterlooHd5 8q45 - 54female5Lots of lovely walks but busy roads too4Don't use public transport2
Roads very busy around Waterloo. Lots of double parking including on Waterloo rise which is a bus route. Often near misses on this street
5
Love castle hill, roundwood and fernside woods and nab hill
6Lots of greenery within 10 minutes walk2Not many play facilities in the area5Could do with some more local sports opportunities.4Unsure3
Some lovely homes but some very run down ones too. Alot of the flats in the area that used to be for the older generation are now used for social housing for any age groups and have brought alot of trouble to the area sadly.
53
I feel like WATERLOO is a bit of a forgotten area. We don't have our own local Facebook group and are politically attached to almondbury rather than having any independence. I feel as it's an area inbetween almondbury, Dalton and fenay bridge but we don't have our own identity as an area. It's a shame as there are alot of houses and people in Waterloo but we seem to be missed when it comes to recognition.
5
Generally feel safe but there are alot of car thefts and vandalism issues
2
I feel that the parks in the area have massively been neglected in recent years. Fernside park used to be beautiful and well maintained but it's nothing special nowadays. There is a fair bit of litter thrown around especially near McDonald's and around the other takeaways. It would be nice to see some planters put around the area and a few more street cleaners. Also fly tipping is an issue.
2
Don't feel like I have any power in the decision making for our local area at all
Recognition and status as an area Cleaner streets More community decision making More events and facilities for children Crime prevention
More police presence Increase in landscaping of the local area Promotion of the area in social media, press etc. More community activities Invites to the local communities to meetings about what is happening in the area and involvement with decision making
12
2021-07-05WaterlooHd50a45 - 54female1Too built up and too much traffic71
Too much traffic in the area. Congestion. Not enough parking at Doctors which affects neighbours property’s being blocked. Queues for Gallagher retail park unacceptable
22
There is a wooded area but become too overgrown. Kids on bikes and motorcycles racing around make it unsafe for walkers and not great for the wildlife
11Oversaturated with unhealthy food takeaways.5411
No it used to be a lovely area now spoilt by the traffic congestion and takeaways. Rubbish strewn around.
221Divert traffic away from Waterloo roadDo not allow any more food business to open

Most pavements in Waterloo are either overgrown by trees and weeds or parked vehicles.
4When buses turn up, often they are full.3
Since Marons Carpets closed our road is constantly being used by cars going to businesses in Waterloo. Then the many taxi offices in Waterloo use our road as a car park, day and night. Not fair in a residential area.
3
No, shops at Waterloo are spray painting on the front of the shop walk ways, full of litter most of the time. Only Hadfield is a shop that is usable for me. Too many takeaways with delivery vehicles coming and going not much interest in people walking on the pavement.
4
Apart from walking around the block (down Waterloo Road, on Albany Road, on Cross Green Road and back on Wakefield Road home. As I said previously too many over grown trees and weeds and parked vehicles on the pavement.
1None in Waterloo.1No. No post office, no bank. No facilities at all. We have been forgotten at Waterloo.3Only shops, not for everyone.5
Yes, mostly. But on our road we have to put up with lots of different people and the far end of the road. Don't feel safe from some of them after 7pm. Police always going around there.
3No.3Not anymore. No community spirit.2Not after 7pm.2
Some of the shops need a good clean and paint, just getting very run down. It's not fair!
2No.
Get the shops at Waterloo to get pride in their properties. Taxi offices should not have cars and buses that they can't park on their own property. More police presence to make us feel safer.
Kirklees Council to send someone to visit Waterloo and walk along the shops and see the spray paint and the rubbish left outside of some properties.
14

Better rubbish clearance and street cleaning is needed , while walking round the area I noticed weeds growing in the gutters, drains are blocked. Outside the Waterloo pub there have been overflowing smelly bins not emptied for months there is rotting food waste attracting vermin.
More street cleaning ,better rubbish collection
15
2021-07-07WaterlooHD5 0A65 - 74male2What cycle routes?2Very seldom use public transport3
Which traffic parking arrangements are these?cyclists seem to have priority on footpaths.
4
Which historic buildings? The only feature is maybe Beaumont Park.
3Poor air quality is the overriding feature maybe a text of the air should be carried out!. Quite noisey4Not really. Children would be ill advised to play outside down Waterloo rd4There are very few amenities3
If you consider8or9 takeaways a goodbye for the economy then ok,but surely no more are neccesary. Enough litter and thrown away food is already visible without any more being added to it.
3There is always room for improvement3Not particularly .3
Waterloo i feel does not have a good identity. It is mostly known for its horrendous road junction and takeaway food .Can anyone on the council point out a good feature of the area?
4
Waterloo rd properties are privately owned and generally well looked after. Waterloo rd itself is used as a racetrack for all vehicles and maybe measures could be taken to stop this. This road is a rat run between Waterloo rd and Wakefield rd and by adding further takeaway on the junction safety to all is being comppo.mised
3
As stated previously gardens and streets do have litter and food wrappings from takeaways dropped in them
3NO no one takes any notice!.Too many takeaways Cyclists using pavement for riding on Air pollution and noise.Action This surely is why councillors are elected to make these decisions

2021-07-09Waterloohd5 8q35 - 44femaleto give my view as a resident5
Alot of the local footpaths particulary at roundwood and at the end of waterloo road are overgrown, poorly lit and not wide enough. There is a little footbridge at the end of waterloo road and you cannot get a pram over it.
1Plenty of public transport into town and back.2
The junction out of greenlea court is ridiclous there should be a box so people can safely move out onto the main road. Also by the traffic lights by Dominos there is no filter lanes for people to pull into the shops if they are travelling in the direction towards huddersfield and so blocks the traffic. There also needs to be traffic calming along waterloo road as cars speed horrifcly down there and there needs to be average speed cameras on wakefield road by greenside as the exsisting speed cameras do not deter people from speeding.
4
There is litter everywhere, often over flowing bins, the area doesnt look attractive at all. Flower boxes by the main junction lights at Gallagher retail park in the middle islands would brighten the place up. All the shops have nice signs and the shops themselves are attractive. It would be great to see a community cafe or something in the empty shop that used to be occupied by subway for local residents ans any profits put into waterloo. All the parks that there are all run down and need sprucing up
3
There are plenty of open spaces but there are just not kept up to or made nice so people do not use them. over the footbridge at the end of waterloo road there is a lovely river and path along sode but the area is strewn with litter, no lights for darker evenings, no places to sit or to play, it could be made a nature reserve with places to ait, boards about wildlife etc
3Only a few tiny parks, no other opportunites for play or recreation.4
No libary and also not really anywhere to eat and drink apart from the waterloo tavern and stag, the icicle shop seems to have shut and isnt open all time, neither is the little cafe next to the pub. Like i said it would be ideal to open the old subway shop as a communitu cafe/library and get volunteers to run it.
5
Lots of local businesses! There is a massive empty space though just by the mini roundabout at end of waterloo road that has been left derlict for years that could be turned into something and create more jobs and or housing. This area in particular is one area of waterloo that needs sprucing up
6Plenty of housing at different prices4
All the shops and businesses are takeaways there is no where to eat and meet up with friends
6
Waterloo is a culturally diverse area and has a positive identity.
3
i feel safe during the day but not at night, i wouldnt walk around this area on a night not even on the main roads. the area would benefit from cctv and better lighting on the footpaths and streers that come off the main road
5
All the buildings seem well maintained. Accept the area outside waterloo mills is scruffy with a number of broken cars and vans strewn outside the buildings by the taxi rank and the old total fitness and soccer city buildings now empty look so scruffy. the area would benefit from a change of use and expansion of the retail park as it would offer more parking as the exsisting retail park is always rammed
3People seem to give views but nothing ever seems to happen
Creation of more opportunitied for people to meet up and eat drink etc Upgrading and tidying up current nature spaces such as round wood and the end of waterloo road Better lighting More recreation opp for kids
Establishment of a community hub that would incorporate a cafe/library and recreation facitilties Get together a group of volunteers on a weekly/monthly basis to tidy up different identified areas around waterloo on a rotational basis.
18
2021-07-11WaterlooHD5 8Q45 - 54male2There are no deadicated cycle paths2It is cheaper for a family to get a taxi to town than pay for bus fares3
There can be too much traffic. It can be difficult to cross Wakefield road both on foot an in a car
47
Waterloo has lots of woods, rivers and streams it would be good to see these sign posted and joined up with walks. Tree planting in Wakefield road would help

There are good walking routes but around the junction of Waterloo road and Wakefield road is a death trap due to the amount of vehicles that que up to use McDonalds, now that the garage has shut down and plans for ANOTHER takeaway are in the pipeline get ready for more accidents.
1Do not use public transport as it is too expensive to sit cramped up with loads of other people when I can get a taxi that costs little more and gets there a lot quicker2
no car parking spaces, people park all over, outside the charity shop is a prime example and also across the road by the nail salon, on an evening all the delivery drivers from the numerous takeaways park where ever they like, not bothered about double yellow lines, pedestrian crossings, traffic lights etc, death trap waiting to happen.
1
The streets are strewn with litter from the number of takeaways in such a small area, around the back of the now defunct gym is a total eyesore, The houses opposite the Waterloo pub give the area a bad vibe because it is these that people see first when stopping at the traffic lights, Yorkshire Tiger depot is an eyesore, there is an empty block of apartments on your way out of Waterloo. The whole area looks rundown, it is embarrassing to say you live in Waterloo, most people do not include Waterloo in their addressess.
1No good quality natural space in Waterloo, all takeaways, bad for local children, no play areas etc.1
Nothing in the local area for children, teenagers etc, thats why they cause all the disturbances while on street corners
1If you like junk food Waterloo is perfect..............1Supermarkets or Takeaways if that is classed as good quality work.1Plenty of homes in the area, always houses available.1
Nowhere flr people to meet unless they meet in takeaways or supermarkets
1
I belong because I have lived here for 30 years but do I feel positive, definitely no. The area has become a run down pit, I am looking to get out as soon as possible
2
Wherever you gets gangs of youths congregating you are going to get trouble, takeaways encourage gangs etc. I do not allow my children to go near the area on a night.
1
HAHAHAHA, just look at the houses opposite the traffic lights, look at the "gym", look at the soccer building, look at the empty apartment block, look at the Yorkshire tiger depot, does that look like an area that is well cared for.
1
NO........ when the Council allow local business people to do what they want ( George Brown) it make you wonder how many brown envelopes are being exchanged. Locals are not able to make things better for locals.
Encourage different businesses not just fast food. Make the owners of the afore mentioned buildings tidy them up, make fast food establishments as well as supermarkets pay for the removal of litter, they could pay the cost of a worker to be constantly going around the area. House owners/tenants should be made to clean up their gardens etc,
Previously mentioned...

2021-07-12WaterlooHD5 9X25 - 34maleLetter received in the post as part of a community consultation.5
Cycling routes are poor around waterloo mainly due to parked cars along the main roads. Walking routes and pavements are very good and provide great access to the local shops and are well lit on an evening.
5I do not use buses regularly but there are regular enough buses to and from Huddersfield which I occasionally use.4
Too much traffic at peak times and lots of noisy vehicles (i.e. quad bikes and off-road motorbikes) in the area. Parking along waterloo is a hazard to both other vehicles and cyclists. Traffic calming isn't too excessive and the area generally feels safe.
6
Very easy to get around with access to supermarkets, dentist, doctors surgery all near by. Area seems to be mostly pleasant if not a bit outdated.
2
Lots of areas of natural greenery outside of Waterloo but not many within due to the road routes running through Waterloo.
5There are children play areas nearby but I cannot speak to their quality or usage.7Yes, all my needs are met.1
I work out of the area and there does not appear to be many employment opportunities in Waterloo outside of service.
7
All the homes both old and new builds appear to meet the needs of the community.
7
Access to lots of parks and open spaces to meet people which are in walking distance (outside of the Waterloo area).
1
There's not a particular community spirit in our area. Feels very disparate.
4
Generally speaking, I do feel safe in my area but crime has been an issue in recent years and groups of youths do still walkabout the streets. But generally speaking, serious crime seems to have reduced during the pandemic and the rest is nothing more than a nuisance.
7All local facilities appear to be taken care of.7
Yes, the councillors are very active and seen regularly and feel I can engage with them should I have any issued.
The only issue I have is the loud bikes that drive around the area in the evening and on the weekend but these are more of a nuisance than anything.A police presence perhaps?

2021-07-12WaterlooHD5 0A45 - 54femaleTo take part in the Kirklees survey2
There aren't enough safe places to cycle, away from the main roads, cycle tracks would be great to get around the more rural parts of the area.
6There are plenty of options for buses in and out of town, linking well with trains.4
Since the retail park was built, the traffic around this area has significantly increased and there is often not enough parking for those visiting the retail park (at Waterloo).
5I don't personally have any issues getting around.5
There's always room for improvement, to have more green spaces, but within a mile or so from where I live I can be in the countryside/nature reserve and even access the canal, although this area could be much improved, making it safer with more lighting, etc. (The path behind the Zeneca factory).
5Yes there are a few areas that have children play areas.5There are many shops within walking distance and sufficient schools, nurseries, etc.564
Could do with more coffee shops to sit in, or more community activities arranged to involve a variety of age ranges and various activities for people to join.
65
I feel relatively safe, but I do hear a lot of cars racing on the Waterloo Road and doing spins in the old total fitness car park which is anti-social, as it is usually late at night.
66
Possibly improve the parking and junction area near the retail park at Waterloo, to enable better traffic flow. Increase safer walking and cycling paths - away from main roads. Traffic calming measures on Waterloo Road.
As stated in previous question.

I worry walking on the paths along Wakefield and Penistone road - drivers regularly break the speed limit when they get onto Penistone road and there are no cameras, Some of the snickets are overgrown and need repairs to steps and walls.
7I do not use public transport - but if I did there is a regular service in Waterloo/Penistone Road area.3
The retail park is a nightmare at times, access to and finding parking but it is great having those stores there. I have explained my concerns re traffic and the speed in built up areas.
3
Where I live, which is more towards fenaybridge, yes - The beck occasionally needs looking at with litter etc, which is a real shame but children gather there and I would not want to stop that! We pick it up where we can. Waterloo itself needs a bit of attention - it could be lovely, it looks tired - needs some greenery , cute shops and a cafe/bar maybe?
5Waterloo is within an easy walking distance to lepton and the fields beyond Wakefield road.6Yes within walking distance to me are three areas I can think of.5The access to amenities are good in this area - always room for improvement!4
Good access to town centre, good bus routes to other areas, so it opens up opportunity. I feel Huddersfield itself is lacking opportunity however.
5I believe so5
I walk my dog daily and regularly get to chat to people - it is a bustling area and I do feel reasonably safe where I am.
3
This is a difficult question - I am not a snob, but I was disappointed that my postcode fell into Waterloo and not Fenaybridge as my neighbours across the road do. I think that speaks for itself, why am I bothered? because Waterloo has a less positive identity. Yet I love living where I do, It is absolutely perfect for us, my area is lovely (other than the road!) and it is accessible to everything and everyone I need!
6Yes - I feel safe in my area.4
Some yes some no - very quickly sites become overgrown and unkempt when business moves on. The tandem site where total fitness was will need attention, a business needs to go in asap - children are setting fires down there and the rubbish bin was over when I walked down there.
2
I have marked as 2 because this is the first step I guess, but I have never felt able to contribute to my community before.
speed of traffic down Penistone road - traffic in general around wakefield road and retail park. taking the tiredness out of it, some more greenery and nice shops/cafe tidying up the snickets a little more (I know this was done in the run up to election,
sadly traffic calming; speed camera's pedestrian crossings - two points of access out in retail park. employ more staff for general tidying of snicket areas. - my husband put out a fire recently in the snicket between mountfield and Penistone - if him and the neighbour had not acted so fast there would have been a serious incident and our home would have been at risk - that is due to the dead dry/wood/debris Get business's in empty spaces, make rents/land affordable and NO MORE HOUSING! keep the spaces that are green, green.

2021-07-19WaterlooHD5 0A35 - 44femaleResident of waterloo4
A really lovely area which is close to lots of lovely countryside. During Covid we have found many little walks to get us out and about safely. With two small children cycling isn't as accessible in the area due to it being busy with traffic. To go out on our bikes as a family we would have to invest in a bike rack and go somewhere else. We often put the children's bikes in the boots and go to no traffic areas such as Pugneys, in a neighbouring town. Although our children's bikes are growing with them and we wont be able to do this much longer. Routes for walking, I wouldn't say are accessible for all. especially in the summer now paths are over grown with summer foilage and some are steep in incline.
3
Buses are plentiful to Waterloo, with accessible routes a short walk away. Due to working from home I haven't accessed Public Transport for 18 months. My husband uses the buses regularly to get home from work (from town to waterloo). If my husband and I were to go out together we would not get a bus but would rely on a taxi as it is more cost effective. My husband doesn't entirely feel safe on the bus and just recently got off at Moldgreen and walked the rest of the journey due to gang culture, kids making threats to stab others, these weren't directed at him but suffers anxiety and decided to get off before things escalated.
4
We moved to waterloo 6 years ago. We live on a main road that backs on to a quiet cul de sac. Over the last 6 years there has been a noticeable increase to the number of cars on the roads and cul de sac, which is in relation to our society, and relects the changes in lifestyle, such as online shopping and deliveries. Traffic lights are managed by a red/green man system to allow people to cross safely. I have expressed my concerns about traffic on a recent planning application in relation to ANOTHER takeaway food outlet and there was a recent road traffic accident where a pedestrian has died in Waterloo at the same junction i expressed concerns.
3
In the main waterloo retail aspect of the area there are many shops, mainly food outlets. I think we have 10 food outlets some retail units are empty, which make the locality look unattractive. Waterloo does not really afford any positive features such as buildings and public spaces. We tend to enjoy fenay beck in neighbouring fenay bridge or the greenery around Kirkheaton. We do have Roundwood which is enjoyed by wildlife (recently observed a deer running through) and my children love the tree swings and little bike ramps. Although we often take a black bin bag and easily fill with the rubbish others have left behind. There is the old Jarmains site which is a bit of an eye sore but also has alot of nature on it. The recent planning proposals for housing developments were quite disturbing with the amount of additional traffic, and the added pressures it would bring on doctors and schools in the area.
5
There are a variety of natural spaces in neighbouring areas which we can walk to to enjoy. Seating could be improved and maintained and more bins for rubbish.
2
There are few opportunities in Waterloo for play and recreation. Older teenagers tend to gather at macdonalds. My daughter age 9 would like to go to the park but I dont feel it is safe to allow her to go due to the distance, she would have to cross main roads, but mainly due to the gang and grooming culture we have in neighbouring areas. Maybe Jarmains could be used as a recreation area for children. Before Covid we tend to access paid facilities. Ravensknowle Park used to be good but my children no longer enjoy the equipment available as they have outgrown it. and the bigger equipment is too big and often crowded by young adults. Greenhead park is always busy and the atmosphere doesn't allow me to relax. Other play area are on housing estates which arent near to us. Our go to play area before Covid was the National Coal Mining Museum, it offered free parking, attractive play equipment, and a relaxing safe environment. We also enjoyed Cliffe house in the school holidays. My children enjoy exploring the woods and neighbouring walks like the fairy walk. We are fortunate to have a garden and they play on the cul de sac behind us with other children which the neighbours are tolerable of.
6
Waterloo offers lots of accessible amenities. We miss the pool and swimming lessons since Total Fitness has closed. My only concern at present is the High school situation with the loss of Almondbury High school since we moved. We are in the catchment area for Netherhall, which is a good school, but I'm concerned its a long and potentially unsafe walk with knife and guns on the rise in the area.
6
I think there are jobs available to those who want to work. I know young people really struggle to find weekend employment opportunities and even volunteering opportunities in order to give them "life experience", which then helps them to get work. I think the area lacks space/resources for innovative opportunities.
7
I don't know about other peoples housing arrangements or what income my neighbours bring in. I'm not interested in status, more morals and behaviours and don't have an issue you at present.
2
I wouldn't class Waterloo as a "community" For opportunities to meet others during maternity leave I would go to neighbouring villages, such as Almondbury which runs "community groups" from the Wesley Centre and the Almondbury surestart centre. Or Kirkheaton run knit and natter groups from their community centre and i have accessed the story time sessions for children in the school holidays run by the council. Alternatively there are church groups which are accessible. Waterloo don't have any of these, but are well linked with wider communities.
54
Do i feel safe? I feel safe in my own little bubble. I surround myself with good friends and supportive family. There are pockets of anti social behaviour in the area but what frightens me more is what i read in the media and social media. When out and about I am wary of who surrounds me, I probably do walk further to avoid large groups of kids on their bikes, hold my bag tighter, and I wont let me children go to the shop on their own. I wont walk through derelict areas alone at night. But is that a reflection on my area or as a result of the picture the media has painted? Probably the latter. I am mindful of the local reports, the underlying gang culture in the area which I've learnt about through my job and volunteering roles, and unfortunately I know I have changed my behaviour to be more alert and anxious.
44
There are opportunities to have your voice heard via consultation whether it be at the doctors, or to planning applications. Sometimes i think this is a paper exercise to tick a box and decisions have already been made. (Almondbury High School consultation is a classic example of this). I always try to contribute as if you don't then you cant complain...
- more needs to be available for young people; More opportunities for them to play and grow More opportunities for young adults to get life experience to help them in obtaining work.

The roads are terrible with holes, tey have cost me 2 sets of tyres. Cyclists are a nuisance taking all the road up so you can't get past - you can only go 20 mph. Road works were never cleared.
1They have knocked so many buses off there used be three an hour to Kirkheaton now we are down to 1 an hour thats if it turns up.1
Dalton Green Lane is blocked with parked cars, more so when the school leaves. The road is down to one lane, you're lucky if you can get into our drives. Albney Road by the hospice is always down to one lane with parked cars. I sometimes wonder how the bus gets through, plus I think its a shortcut for large wagons (TESCO, M&S), They shake the house when they pass. There are far too many cars on the road and seem to park anywhere including across your drive.
1
There is nowhere to walk and if you do you take your life in your hands. I think its time Kirklees cut the bushes down so we have a pavement to walk on. The corner of Wakefield Road and Penistone Road you cant see round the corner. (BRING BACK HUDDERSFIELD COUNCIL) It used to be a lovely town plenty of shops. I stopped shopping in Huddersfield a long time since, I go to Wakefield or Halifax.

The path between 101a Dalton Green Lane and 15 Myers Croft is almost invisible. The path is very over grown from many gardens. Tree trunks have buckled the pavement horrendously. Rubbish has been there for over 2 years (before lockdown - mattress springs) There is a highly used path connecting to two primary schools and a nursery. Alternative walking routes are very long and not practical when walking young children to school.
4Bus service frequent enough to Huddersfield, but the bus service through to Kirkheaton and over to Mirfield is really poor as it has been drastically reduced. Expensive for what it is.3
Parking at the Waterloo shops is dreadful for cars and pedestrians. Parking spaces have reduced in numbers since Deal House accommodation has finished. Dangerous to walk on pavement as so many entrances/exits to parking spaces outside the takeaways. Cars often park on pavements outside takeaways.
5
Vacant land on Crossley Lane/Cold Royd Lane needs sorting out. Cars very noisy on Tandem Way with drivers doing races/donuts etc, especially on an evening. Cars very fast on Cross Greeen Road. Please could we have speed humps there?
2Would love to walk through Round Wood, but I just don't feel safe going in there.1There is nothing that interests us or our childen in this area.6
So glad there is Aldi, M&S, McDonalds and Kirkwood shops all within walking distance. Car park at Gallagher Retail often not big enough and causes traffic issues.
4There are some shops and businesses but it is mainly residential.5A wide variety of housing types2
Very little community spaces to meet. McDonalds is the only real place except the cafe next to the pub, but the coffee is disgusting.
2Nothing I am aware of heritage wise.2
A lot of drug dealing in the area. The path between Dalton Green Lane and Myers Croft is bad when it is dark. Far too many noisy cars driving far too fast on residential streets. Please could you put speed humps on Cross Green Road.
2
Dog poo common problem on pavements and paths, especially the path between 101a Dalton Green Lane and 15 Myers Croft and the field by the side of the 2 schools. No recycling facilities except if you drive to glass bins at Morrisons. Neighbourhood watch sign up, but no idea who/if it is still valid.

Walkers are totally disregarded in favour of cars. People have no priority over cars, it has a shocking impact on health and well being. Can't walk anywhere in the area without being chocked to death with stinking car fumes. Massive wagons flying up and down, day in and day out gets worse and worse. Albany Road has a sign stating no large vehicles, not one wagon takes a bit of notice. Can't sit in the front garden without breathing filthy fumes in, the noise at certain times of day is horrendous, day in, day out. All this before 100's houses built on the road at Lepton and the former Jarmines site, air quality is set to get substantially worse
1
There is nothing pleasant about walking through Waterloo. Only positive feature is Ravensknowle Park, technically not in Waterloo. The noise in this area caused by traffic is shocking
1
The only natural space in Waterloo is Roundwood, not easily accessible especially with disabilities and poor mobility. There are ducks on Feney Beck but don't want to stand on Wakfefield Road or Albany Road to enjoy this bit of wild life. With the amount of building planned, we will be lucky to see any natural space in the future
4
Don't use any of the above facilities but see children playing in Ravensknowle Park and older people walking dogs and socialising. The park has been better maintained in the past
4
I can only speak for myself and my husband and about doctors shops, we don't use any other facilities. Dr's and shops pretty good could do with less takeaways and associated rubbish that come with them. A new one planned for corner of Waterloo road and Wakefield Road. What a nightmare
4Don't know41
For people my age, I can only say Ravensknowle Park for people i.e. croquet, don't think there are any indoor places to meet other people, but not sure. Think there has been much better facilities for the elderly in times gone by. Don't think there is much on offer with regards to social contact for the elderly
14
Can't speak for other people, I feel reasonably safe during the day, don't go out at night. Don't think theres any area free from crime and antisocial behaviour, it's just that some areas are worse than others. I feel safe in my own home , I have good neighbours who I could turn to should I nee help and the same goes for me to.

The footpaths are not always safe to walk on and adults, teenagers riding mountain bikes without bells to warn you they are behind you, makes these paths very dangerous for the walker and the cyclist, having being run into twice.
6We at Waterloo have a good bus service, no need to complain1
This is an extremely busy area for most of the day. Thank goodness for traffic lights.

Waterloo used to be a nice area for most things not too good now, too many takeaways which causes lots of litter. When did this country become so dirty. No one caring about their surroundings.

We have a small wood by us and one not far away, so have access to open areas away from traffic. sometimes feel a bit scared walking these areas, but have been OK. I have a small dog.

Not had dealings with community services, but if you're listening, road and street cleaning needs to be looked at. Not aware or seen any cycling lanes in or around Waterloo, other than pavements which many seem to use! Not aware or seen any benches along the pavements for people who might want to sit and rest when walking to the shops at Waterloo or either Wakefield Road or Penistone Road to Morrisons
7Reliable and regular bus services are frequent and reliable.1
Waterloo already experiences a very high volume of traffic, especially at peak times, causing high volumes of pollution. There is a problem at the Wakefield Road - Waterloo Road junction which has been reported to Kirklees Council concerning parking on pavements and obstructing driveways where double yellow lines and no loading signs are visible. People still park on pavements on a regular basis causing difficulty accessing residents driveway and limiting passage for pedistrians (prams, mobility scooters etc)
1
There are no attractive features due to an increasing amount of takeaway establishments. A tidying up of existing greenery would be appreciated eg being able to see traffic coming down Wakefield Road when crossing the traffic light junction when walking on Penistone Road from the direction of Morrisons. The flower beds at this junction need planting with greenery/flowers as it looks very unkempt. If I was driving into Huddersfield for the first time I would think how scruffy and unkempt it looks!

Fenay Beck does run under Waterloo bridge which is nice to observe when walking to the shops. The only other positive is walking from Morrisons car park to Moreside, though the path has room for improvement as it is quite muddy and slippery especially in wet weather.
1
We have no young children though we have not observed any outdoor play areas for children in the Waterloo area. Teenagers regularly gather around McDonalds and also frequented the forecourt of Crown Motors prior to it closing (This was in the evenings after he had closed). The local gym and football facility have both closed down and we are not aware of any other facilities in Waterloo.
1
There are numerous and varied takeaways in Waterloo, some who provide indoor and outdoor seating for people to meet and sit, relax with friends. There is also a good Indian restaurant. Plenty of local shops and a chemist at the side of the local GP practice. Not aware of a local library the nearest one we used was at Lepton which has now closed down! The local gym and indoor football facility have now both closed down.
1
There are plenty of shops and takeaways in Waterloo if you wished to gain work experience in either area.
32
The only spaces left to meet people and socialise are local pub, cafe, takeaways & Indian restaurant as we no longer have a local gym or indoor football facility. It would be good to have something like a local community centre for informal meetings/clubs to be formed.
3
Not really sure how people view Waterloo as a place or just driving through to commute. Know very little about history/heritage of Waterloo even though I was brought up in Lepton and have lived in Waterloo over 36 years, other than it used to have a cinema and was a much nicer area when we first moved here. We do have good friendly neighbours.
2There are a few empty properties in Waterloo at the moment.1
Local shops appear to be well maintained, but are let down by the amount of litter usually from takeaways being dropped on pavements or thrown out of car windows. If plans are passed for a further takeaway we feel the problem will only worsen. There is a public refuse bin down the road from us (Waterloo Road) which seems to be emptied on a regular basis. Morrisons recycling now only takes glass and old clothing.

2021-07-19WaterlooHD5 9U55 - 64femaleScanned copy5Not noticed any seating. Signs for cyclist not available5Bus not available frequently round Woodedge Avenue for those who may use it for e.g. elderly. Main route bus service can be expensive if travelling into town then out again in one journey. Dalton should also be considered3
Busy main road at peak times but can also be busy during the day especially as it is the main route to the M1 and also because there are shops nearby and traffic lights which mean queueing traffic. However a pelican crossing is required but in the correct place. There is one just after a cross junction where there is already a set of traffic lights (Dalton Green Rd and Greenfield Road junction) another as you turn into the main road towards Huddersfield centre. Corner of Edgeware Road leading up to Woodedge Avenue parked cars make it difficult to see round corners. A suitable concave mirror on a post may make it possible to see blind spots and ultimately make it safer to drive round corners and obstacles.
3
The derelict areas along Crossley Lane (on both sides) is unpleasant as it is unused and overgrown with cement / broken building. It is unsafe to walk on at night, could it be made to be used for recreational purposes, perhaps tennis courts or an area for children to play or some of the built up area for further commercial use to create jobs. Also area to night on Nettleton Terrace is an eyesore - unused and dangerous exposing a sewer from an industrial which was here previously. Ravensknowle Park and the clock tower is attractive and the museum attracts visitors when open. The prior areas do need improvements to improve. The beck which runs and stream running round Roundwood is pretty but maintaining it and the woods itself needs maintaining as there are pathways which are overgrown and dead trees. Those could be kept attractive for visitors
3
Roundwood as mentioned in Dalton Wood could be better maintained as this is a public throughway with paths. It is vastly overgrown round the paths and dead trees, fallen some of them which could be removed and new planting encouraged to maintain the landscaped. Also the stream beck could be cleaned up for water flow improvement. Disabled people could use it more easily if the pathways were maintained if not just steps were available but some form of slope at the other end to allow access to Roundwood Avenue and ultimately Wakefield Road. If left unattended it impact the avenue causing landslide and further tree loss. If it was improved, perhap seating within it could be considered. Additionally the nature reserve off Dalton Bank Road pathways need maintenance as overgrown for visitors
3
The Dalton area has no facilities for local children near Albany Road. The area mentioned previously Streets & Places on Crossley Road, could do with developing it into leisure facilities and play areas. Rollerblading and skate boarding. The nearest place for children to play on limited playground is off White Rose Avenue children pleasantly play on the side roads which can be dangerous where there are corners / circular roads
6
Nowhere however to eat / drink / socialise just dingy dangerous areas which could make pleasant and attractive areas addition to already areas such as the nature reserve Ravensknowle Park which themselves need some maintenance so that they can continue to be enjoyed and away from the bustle of the main roads
4
Employment could be created of facilities were available but council should first maintain scenic areas to attract people to use them and non derelict areas should have new facilities to bring possible income back to the area by providing jobs. Shops already bring people to the area but having other facilities could disperse traffic by new areas attraction and provide perhaps income generation. Shops are usually on busy roads , local shops may not attract outside area public to shop if parking is not available
63
A piece of land on the junction of Waterloo Road (garages) has recently come available. Could this area be used as a social cafe space. Meeting place, they would be near to shops and supermarkets. Previous pages highlight where social contact could improve if changes were made.
4
Woodedge Avenue, Edgeware Road pot holes, tarmac diminishing , weed growth. No improvements made for road users. Damage to cars is possible, people feel that other areas in Huddersfield get better treatment. These areas mentioned are never considered
3
All may improve based on previous improvements mentioned. Empty properties should be policed regularly. However no PCO walking about the ward as previously

Too much traffic using Waterloo Road especially morning & teatimes when there is often long tail backs up to the traffic lights. This will only get worse if planning is passed for the garage at the traffic lights to become fast food premises.
6You do not get a comfortable journey on any of the tiger buses but overall transport around Waterloo is good.5
On Waterloo Road parking is OK but with long tail back queues of traffic up to the lights the air quality is poor.

There is a house number 60 Woodedge Avenue which is derelict and an eye sore. It must have been like this for 25 years, it lets the other houses down. There is a public footpath at the side of this house and a sign saying this. It is dangerous and the wall down the side of the house and footpath is crumbling and falling down as is the eyesore of a house. This should be sorted out, I've seen rats there
5
There should be more buses coming up the steep hill to the top of Woodedge Avenue. I have Osteoarthritis in both hips and lower back and walk with a stick. If I want a few hours later on in town, I have to walk down the wood to Waterloo to catch a bus.
5
Woodedge Avenue and the steep hill leading up to it could do with resurfacing as there are a lot of pot holes
5
Number 60 Woodedge Avenue totally derelict eyesore with overgrown vegetation. The back garden looks like it is part of the woods. Doors boarded up, broken glass, dangerous wall at side of what's supposed to be public footpath. Rats in garages at top of Woodedge Avenue, look scruffy not looked after caravans and old scrap cars parked in front of garages. Someone Paul, number 1 Woodedge Avenue is on about getting land part of wood opposite garages flattening it off and putting up more garages and scrap cars on land he already has. A large double garage and single one
5
The lights through the woods go out at 12pm it is very dark through this wood, I go to Waterloo bowling club and sometimes come home about 1am. The lighting should be left on longer.

Walking on many footpaths can be difficult due paths not being wide enough due to weeds or bushes/trees overhanging the paths. To give others space (during covid) you have to walk in the road or cross it and at times it can take 10 minutes to cross Waterloo Road. P.S Weeds need taking out, not spraying with weed killer as it's toxic to animals
4Do not use public transport4
Many homes have 2 vehicles or more. They have to park partly on pavements otherwise the roads would be unpassable. Kirkwood hospice needs its own car park before the pandemic, Albany Road was a single file road due to all the cars parked for the hospice
2
I don't leave home after dark unless its an emergency. I am unaware of a public square in Waterloo
5
There are many paths by the streams but the grass only gets cut about once a year and I have never seen any brambles cut back
4I don't have children so don't comment54I don't have any opinion4Unsure4
During the last 17 months I have made sure, only to be in contact with family (in a bubble). Social contact is not high on my list of priorities at the moment. I have to try and keep my family safe - elderly parents and disabled brother. Saying hello to neighbours at a distance is the only contact I want at the moment
44
I think there should be round CCTV around e.g. roundabouts. We have a big fence and locked gates, e.g. CCTV, ring doorbell at home I feel safe
3
Tandem Industrial estate has a rubbish bin (at the end of the path to Lascelles Hall Road) great for dog walkers like myself, but it is often overflowing with McDonalds cartons and paper blowing around. It is often not an area to walk after 6pm even when its light due to undesirable being there

At the moment I feel people are trying to look after their own families and keeping an eye on neighbours. Personally I would not go to any meetings, indoors, due to covid

Feel very safe in Waterloo. Now we are pensioners the drivers at night time drive so fast it is very hard to get to sleep.
3Bus route closed down a few years ago on waterloo Road. No bus service for pensioners at all, makes it so difficult to get out and about. It is a necessity in this area for people like us.1
Far too much traffic on Waterloo Road. Young drivers drving so fast at night and daytime - not safe at all for school children crossing roads - unsafe - not happy
7
We are very lucky to have beautiful Greenway around Waterloo and it needs to be kept this way. It's a very popular route for walkers. Derelict land needs to be looked at to avoid squatters or travellers.
7Plenty natural space around. No complaints4Not sure7
Good shopping facilities - M&S, Aldi, Morrisons, Home Bargains within reach. Well maintained and clean.
2
No score provided, score given due to comments No, I would say not, there is not much available for younger people or start up businesses.
7
Yes, good solid homes in the area, but they are not always appropriate to rent out in this area. People have been living here for years, infact since they were built in the 60s.
6
No where to meet up, no facilities, definitely no mixing of different backgrounds
7
Yes, I would say a positive Yes there is a connection and its a strong connection.
6
Although its safe to a certain extent, there is minor crime around. Burglaries and some antisocial behaviour, but not as bad during lockdown.
4

I find it very difficult to walk my child to Dalton school. Crossing over Dalton Green Lane is ridiculous and cars very rarely give way! This does not allow me to give my child independance and teach my child how to walk to school alone to prepare him for high school. Large pot hole in front of my drive also doesn't help when coming on or off my drive. (Cross Green Drive).
3I think public transport is very expensive. If more than one of you it is cheaper for a taxi to town.3Too many cars at school times making it dangerous for children.3
I would not feel safe in the area at night. Speeding cars and moped/scooters fly up and down Cross Green Road.
5Some very nice places nearby. Kirkheaton has some very nice walks and scenery.3
Sport costs alot of money. I have 2 sporty children and have to pay for any sport they participate in. I am reluctant to let my children play out as the groups/gangs of teenagers is not very nice. The local parks are full of these!
4
Quite a large choice of amenities. However, nearest cash machines are a mile away if you don't want to pay at a local shop to withdraw your own money.
4I think childcare is very expensive. However, I chose to work school hours for this reason4
I think rented accommodation is limited unlesss you are able to get a council property. Also, prices are very steep which makes this diffiuclt to consider moving.
4
I would say Ravensknowle Park is used to meet people, however, I would not be there after 4pm with groups/gangs loitering around. Maybe youth clubs would be a good idea.
5
The school community made me feel welcomed when I moved to the area
3
I would say I don't feel very safe either out and about after 5pm or in my own house at night. On a few occasions I have had men enter my garden looking to steal things from garden or garage.
3
Dog mess is an issue, especially walking along Cross Green Road to school!
4
I am on the parent committee at Dalton School and we do try to help make the community better. We did a petition for a lollipop lady on Dalton Green Lane but 3 years later nothing has been done to protect our children. We spoke to councillors about a zebra crossing as no one would take on the lollipop lady role. This idea was shut down straight away. i personally have seen several near misses at school times. Unfortunatley I think until a chld gets hit by a car nothing will be done!

Country walks are easily accessible in the Waterloo area. One problem is stiles. The 'walk through' ones are fine but some of the 'stepped stiles' are difficult (or even impossible) to negotiate for elderly people. (I have an artificial hip)
4
Our local service (261) runs at hourly intervals (it used to be half-hourly) The 261 service now runs between Huddersfield and Cleckheaton. Originally the bus ran between Huddersfield and Dewsbury and this was advantagous because major stores in Dewsbury were close to the bus station. The Cleckheaton service is not always reliable and (with the hourly service) the buses are often too packed. We can use the 375 service but there are only four buses per day.
5
Cars parking fully/partly on footpaths/pavements is a big problem. Too many cars on the roads
67
Excellent natural spaces and environment withn 10 minutes of our house. More countryside seats would be nice but the problems of maintenance are appreciated.
7
Very good opportunities for walking. Paths seem to be well-maintained. We are lucky in that our particular street (Edgeware Road, Dalton) encircles a 'green' and the road is very quiet. Children seem happy in their play.
7
Three major supermarkets within a short walking distance. Local 'corner shop' and hairdressers nearby Accessible local schools near by Accessible churches/chapels etc nearby
4
Out of touch now with business and emplyment facilities (having been retired for 20 years) One thing worthy of mention is the non-use of large plots of vacant land (which formerly housed businesses). This land has access to roads and does not impinge on neighbouring houses (Crossley Lane/Abany Road). It would be a shame to use up green land when the above plots are available.
5
More houses of an appropriate size and cost should be made available for young couples and single parents. Private rented accommodation is less satisfactory than owner-occupier accommodation.
7
My wife and I had just gained the confidence to make (necessary) journeys by bus again. With the governments absurd decision to allow people on public transport without masks, we shall be locked down at home again.
656
Parks, public spaces/properties are well-maintained. Litter is no problem Bin collections are good The introduction of the brown bin for garden refuse was an excellent idea. Recycling of batteries, masks etc can be done at supermarkets and large shops. The recycling sites for other items ar problematic for none car owners.

There is also excessive noise from motorbikes that are deliberately non-silenced to make exhaust louder. It is ear splitting
4
There is a lot of litter around. I'm always cleaning up cans, McDonalds, sweet wrappers. Are parents influenced to teach their children. The footpaths are very poor - Dalton Green Road where I walk. I sprained my ankle on a wonky flag. Railings not painted at cottage homes, looks uncared for
3
Natural space, fields at the back of Dalton school appalled by dog fouled path - no seating areas, no flowers - only a dog toilet

Obviously cyclists don't use cycle paths, nearly all use pavements. The ones using the road weave around traffic and ignore rules. Spending all this money on cycle routes appears to be wasted for a very small amount of cyclists that actually use them.
3Buses unreliable, nearly always late. Still a large number of old / dirty buses in use. Toilet facilities in bus stations poor. I now have a bus pass but prices compared to other prices in UK / abroad are poor value.3
Too many cars parked on pavements. Cars parking on pavements by Waterloo shops seem to ignore pedestrians. Too many rat run routes in area due to consistent road works. Not enough calming measures, cars driven by youngsters think they are on race tracks, ridiculous speed on residential roads
3
Local parks are well used, spoilt by litter and graffiti / vandalism. Land earmarked for development is overgrown and an eyesore. Tend not to venture out at night on foot
2
A lot of pavements around Waterloo are narrowed due to overgrown hedges / bushes etc. Council cut backs on grass verges, grass cutting makes the area look unkempt. Wildlife areas would be improved with actually planting some wild flowers instead of relying on weeds. Dog fouling is dreadful everywhere
5
Several parks in area, outdoor exercise equipment available. Plenty of room in parks for children to run around, play ball games etc.
3
Shops in Waterloo either beauty or takeaways. Some shop frontages look tacky. GP services have cut back on services available due to Covid but there are not enough appointments to cope with the ever increasing population. This can only worsen due to proposed huge amount of new builds in local area which will also impact on schools, traffic etc
2
Not sure re jobs as main employers would be supermarkets around here. Seems to be small shops open then disappear within a year
5Plenty of types of housing including sheltered housing3
Not sure how different backgrounds mix. I know there are centres and different groups can hold meetings etc but I don't use them
3
The area gives the impression of being run down in some places, litter a major problem. Gardens / pavements in some areas full or large items that need disposing of.
2
Usually go out in car when dark, wouldn't walk around at night on my own
1
Litter everywhere. Dog fouling every few yards on pavements. Drains need regular cleaning, hardly any collect rain water and large puddles form in heavy rain. Recycling ok, need own transport for most items. Ridiculous charge to collect large items from homes.

Pavements are littered with wheelie bins left out permanently at Wakefield Road and Penistone Road junction. Overhanging branches, brambles, weeds and foliage making pavements unusable. Uneven pavements caused by tree roots. It appears that in Waterloo pavement and bus lane parking is acceptable. Take away litter is strewn throughout the area making it run down and dirty and not a place you would choose to live in.
3
First bus runs a service for university students using very noisy and polluting vehicles and cause problems waiting over with engines throbbing an spewing out diesel pollutant's, leaking oil onto the road and blocking access to driveway. This service appears to run every ten to fifteen minutes with often empty buses.
4
Pavement parking is a problem in most areas and double parking on side roads making access difficult for emergency vehicles. Traffic calming measures often hinder rather than help and cause unnecessary damage to road vehicle's.
1
A very dirty area with constant traffic congestion not a pleasant place to live or even pass through and getting worse. Hooligans racing round Morrisons carpark late at night causing excessive noise.
2
We had nice places but due to lack of maintenance and vandalism litter and dog excrement these are not places to enjoy anymore.
2Again misused and unmaintained and most unfit for purpose.6Too many takeaways in Waterloo area.55
Some housing at Waterloo traffic lights leave a lot to be desired with overgrown gardens and wheelie bins permanently left on the pavement blocking access for prams and wheelchairs etc. Not a pleasant sight for people passing through.
52
Run down and poorly maintained making for anti-social behaviour in some parts.
2
If the local council appears not care then some local residents do likewise. Personally don't feel safe at night.
2As already stated in previous question's2
We always feel no one listens or excuses are made as to why it won't be done.
Clean up the area around Waterloo centre (litter, Wheelie bins, overgrown vegetation). Parking on pavement's (double yellow lines) and bus lane's (during time restrictions). Maintain what we have and don't make it even harder to bring back the standards we used to have.
Act on your own rules.

Vehicles on Waterloo Road in general drive far too quickly. In May this year a lady was killed at the end of Waterloo Road by a speeding driver and I fear it will hapen again if serious measures are not taken. I witnessed a near miss only a few weeks ago between two vehicles with the vehicle behind driving far too close to the vehicle in front and at too greater speed.

The sites on Crossley Lane need to be developed as they are a real eyesore. This would also cut down on building local houses on green fields.
2
There isn't enough natural space and what there is gets less with all the new houses built. If the sites on Crossley Lane are not used for housing why not convert to natural green space?

Feel very safe in Waterloo, now we are pensioners the drivers at night time drive so fast it is very hard to get to sleep.
3Bus route closed down a few years ago on Waterloo Road, no bus service for pensioners at all makes it so difficult to get out and about. It is a necessity in this area for people like us.1
Far too much traffic on Wterloo Road. Young drivers driving so fast at night and daytime, not safe at all for school children crossing roads, unsafe not happy.
7
We are very lucky to have beautiful Greenery around Waterloo and it needs to be kept this way. Its a very popular route for walkers. Derelict land needs to be looked at to avoid squatters or travellers.
7Plenty of natural space around. No complaints4Not sure7
Good shopping facilities - M&S, Aldi, Morrisons, Home Bargains within reach. Well maintained and clean
1No, I would say not, there is not much available for younger people or start up businesses.7
Yes, good solid homes in the area, but they are not always appropriate to rent out in this area. People have been living here for years, infact since they were built in the 60s.

The bus service is very good but with one problem - waiting for a bus to Huddersfield town centre on Wakefield Road, you can wait for nearly half an hour and then find the buses are within a minute of each other, before another long wait ensues. That said the bus service is quite good along Wakefield Road, but the frequency or occasional lack of it remains a problem. The bus services in question are 372, 233 and 231. As for walking this is ok, but with ever greater volumes of traffic the safety aspect of cycling is precarious.

Too many houses are being built in this and surrounding neighbourhoods. There are allegedly over 60,000 empty houses in Leeds and Kirklees alone - yet there are plans to build even more. Waterloo has more than enough buildings. Time perhaps to generate more green spaces and create a more environmentally friendly district. The air quality in this part of town is bad enough already.
3
Again there are perhaps too many buildings in Waterloo and with the buildings comes greater volumes of traffic. As mentioned earlier the bus service caters for a busy neighbourhood but the buses all come at one. if public services do match demand then people will ignore them and make their own arrangements. Less buildings, more natural space, more buses.

Potholes on many roads and many uneven pavements. Also lots of very overgrown overhanging hedges and bushes from private residencies make paths unsafe
2Public transport is very poor in my area and usually have to get a taxi in the mornings to get to train station5
People should be encouraged to park on their drives especially when they own more than one car.
44More green space and flowers would benefit the area.4544
There should be more social housing and affordable housing.
343
Never see police or pcso. Street lighting is poor and bushes/ hedges overgrown providing hiding places for criminsls. I wouldn't want to walk around when it is dark on my own.
5
Where I live people generally take care of their homes and gardens.
2Not really.Better transport links, especially early mornings, late evenings and weekends. Safer environment, improved lighting and cut back hedges and trees etc.Force residents to cut back trees and hedges. If they won't council to do it and charge the residents. Better police presence and a named community police officer for the area so occupants can raise issues.

Waterloo Road and Wakefield Road get very busy. Need to slow traffic down on Waterloo Road. Its dangerous for cyclists and people walking. Sadly a death this year to a pedestrian.
5Don't use it much at all, but seems good.2
Waterloo Road is dangerous, people regularly speed. Lots of nutters later in the evening. Needs traffic calming and a couple of speed cameras. Please not speed bumps, they are not effective. Need to look at the timing on the lights at Waterloo Road/Wakefield Road as it reguarly backs up!
5
Residents in the vacinity of Tandem Industrial Estate are treated to a rude awakening at around 6.30am every day from Forteq as they drop waste into their skips (as loudly as they can) including a Sunday!
5Plenty if you are fit and able.46
One of the main attractions of this area. Loads of shops, surgery, gym, car repairs are close.
5Anything thats not in the area can be found in town.54Never looked into it. Promote it more!6One of the better points about the area.4
No score provided - average given Slight increase in antisocial behaviour during lockdown. Mainly kids (bored teenagers). Nothing serious, trampling flowers, kicking fences, wheelie bin got pushed over. Aggressive driving, illegal motorcyle use is the main problem. Loud pipes on cars etc pop, pop, bang, bang.
4
Mostly ok. There is a problem with rubbish (mainly due to McDonalds) bins overflow on Tandem and it blows around Lascelles Hall & Waterloo Road. Would be good to get McDonalds to take responsibililty for it. Council need to put more bins on the estate ie Gallager Park & Tandem.

More could be made of the woodland and river banks in Waterloo. Direct access to the nature reserve on Dalton Bank Road would be good. At the moment there is no pavement for pedestrians to access it. There is too much traffic for safe on-road cycling.
3
It costs more to go into town on the bus and back for 2 people than driving/parking. Bus routes seem odd - why isn't there a route that uses Waterloo Road. It's quite a walk to the bus stops on Wakefield Road, especially for the sick and elderly. I don't understand why the bus station isn't at the back of the railway station to create a true transport interchange. Trains to Leeds are far too crowded at peak times.
3
Lockdown was wonderful - no fumes from (standing) traffic on Waterloo Road. We realise there are plans for improvements at the Wakefield Road/Penistone Road junction. It would be good to have them on display somewhere and to understand when work might go ahead. Getting in/out of the car park behind the Waterloo Shops isnt easy so its seldom used. Bus stops in the carriageway simply exacerbate the traffic/pollution issues. There needs to be pull-ins or the routes need changing. Waterloo road is like a race track at night and would definitely benefit from random speed checking or fixed cameras. If the Jarmain site is developed, local roads wont cope.
5
Waterloo is leafy and green even if blighted by traffic. It also makes the area more attractive than some areas. Supermarkets and retail parks are the most notable landmarks. Not much of Huddersfield's cultural heritage remains but can be seen Lascelles Hall/Kirkheaton.
6
More could be made of riverbanks and access to the river/canal on foot or bicycle. I'm concerned about development of the Jarmain site. This could have become a nature reserve or park. More suitable for an area that is alongside the hospice. The Tandem Industrial Estate creates a lot of noise and light pollution. I've witnesed things being thrown through/over the fence onto the river bank. We see a great variety of birds, plus foxes, badgers are evident.
4
In common with almost all of the UK, there isn't much to engage young people. The play equipment at Waterloo Rise and the bottom of Almondbury is well used. School buildings and grounds should be put to better use at evenings and weekends.
5
There aren't many community facilities but the range of local shops is good. We don't need the proposed drive through takeaway at the end of Waterloo Road. Accessibility will always be an issue in an area bi-sected by a dual carriageway.
5
I have no idea if local people work locally, from traffic movement I suspect not. I think local jobs are probably low paid.
6
I think there is a good mix/balance of housing both owned and rented.
5
I see lots of activities on social media, but not sure if these encourage integration of age groups or ethnic groups.
4I have no real opinion here.6
I feel safe in Waterloo, its no worse than many other places and often better. Levels of antisocial behaviour seem quite low in my immediate area. I hear of drug taking and crime in the Tandem Industrial Estate but this is hearsay.
6
Given the severe restrictions on its budget, Kirklees Council does a good job of keeping the area clean and well groomed. We have the litter blight from McDonalds but that's antisocial behaviour, not the company's fault.
6
Our local councillors are visible, active and use social media very well. This survey is an example of giving people a say, but it's a bit overwhelming and I wonder about response rates.

I go for a walk every day (weather permitting) I don't cycle since I came off and finished up in HRI. The walk I go for takes about 30 minutes
7There are plenty of buses going on Wakefield Road into town. I can afford public transport since I have a bus pass being 70 years of age7
Traffic and parking are not a problem. I have a car as most people on my street do. My car is in the garage overnight, occasionally I park it on my drive, not on the street
6
Most of Waterloo is taken up by housing. There is a large public space down Grosvenor Road where kids can play football. Getting around Waterloo is easy
6
The rear of my house backs on to a wooded area. There is a beck (Fenay Beck) which supports Mallard ducks. There is other bird life, sparrows, magpies, jays. I have had squirrels in my garden
4
The houses in my area for families for children have flown the nest but there are children playing out (my street is a cul-de-sac) so it's great to see kids playing on their bikes as my 2 boys did
7
There are schools down Grosvenor Road. A health centre at Waterloo and Mill Hill. There is a large supermarket. There is a bowling club
6the supermarket creates jobs. There are job opportunities on the tandem industrial estate7

As a partially sighted person, my wife finds pavements very uneven for walking with too many obstacles
52 bus stops on Waterloo Road but no buses stop4
Too much traffic on Waterloo Road at peak times. Traffic is often stationary for long periods causing pollution. Speed bumps have been tried but were removed - not successful. Speed cameras may be useful
3
Too many food outlets on Wakefield Road causing a lot of litter and add to traffic. Do we really need another takeaway at the former Crown Motors? next to McDonalds and opposite Cardamon Green? Derelict empty buildings do not create a good impression. The traffic islands at Waterloo Road / Wakefield Road are a mess, full of weeds etc. Would be much improved with some nice colourful shrubs
5
Can walk alongside Fenay Beck but at Wakefield Road end the beck suffers from discarded litter from McDonalds in particular. As I write this there are now four traffic cones thrown in the water
1Not aware of any suitable play areas for children2
Total fitness and soccer city now closed. Not aware of any other facilities apart from Waterloo bowling club - which requires membership
1Seems to be all shop work, takeaways and supermarkets4
Mostly home owners and a few council properties. Could do with a mix of new homes. What is going to happen on derelict land on Crossley Lane? At present the roadside there is used for fly tipping and dumping litter. If homes are built here this will have an impact on schools, traffic, doctor surgeries etc
3
Limited places to meet up for social contacts. Waterloo pub, not very inviting. McDonalds full of noisy people and cars queueing for takeaways. Cardamon Green a good restaurant
2
Waterloo on Wakefield Road does not create a good impression. Traffic is very dense, shop fronts very drab and not inviting.
2
Evidence of teenagers congregating on Tandem estate and leaving litter even within yards of litter bins. Do not feel safe walking through gangs of teenagers

Lack of cycle lanes. I and my children do not feel safe cycling around Waterloo. Waterloo Road is either a race track at night or gridlocked. There is no happy medium. Buses do not come along Waterloo Road other than school buses, that I am aware of.
4My daughter works in Honley and relies on public transport. There is a distinct lack of detail on routes from Waterloo to this area. Buses frequently break down. Services to town are frequent enough.5
Waterloo Road could benefit from having a pinch point installed to curb over enthusiastic drivers speeds. The lights could do with sequencing slightly longer to clear standing traffic quicker during rush hour, where standing traffic creates residential noise and poor air quality. Currently 5 cars maximum are allowed through to adjoining 'A' roads.
3
The 'Jarmans' old site is a massive eyesore on both sides of Long Lane where it joins to Waterloo. Joy riders doing 'donuts' and drug dealing is a frequent occurence on the Tandem Estate at all hours but particularly twighlight hours. Groups of youths meeting in cars makes this area intimidating to walk through to get to Lascelles Hall. Footpaths could benefit from clearing of overgrowth.
3
There is very little natural space in Waterloo. There is a path along the back of the houses on Winsford Drive that is not maintained on a regular basis. The path is very wet and narrow in places meaning only able bodied people can navigate it.
4
The gym is closed. Soccer City is closed and was poor quality when open. There is one small open space for play on Fernside Avenue, nothing on Dalton side of Waterloo that I'm aware of.
6
If anything there are too many eateries/takeaways in Waterloo. There is no promotion of healthy living in the selection of shops/takeaways. There is a Dr surgery, chemist, supermarket, petrol/diesel facilities.
3
Lack of local jobs available for young people. No businesses willing to train. All want experienced staff.
4
Some houses good, some dire. Private and rental properties relatively non existant unless you are single or a student. Nothing for families to move, into say from ownership forced into rental.
2
There is Ravensknowle Pak close by to Waterloo. Youths pose intimidation to elderly and young people. There is nowhere in inclement weather to meet or socialise unless you like to drink.
5
Generally positively received in my opinion. History/heritage/culture of Waterloo? Not aware there is any! Communities and community connection is a bixed bag. Some streets great spirit, some none at all.
4
Routes unsafe due to significant traffic at peak times. Trading estate attracts antisocial behaviour on evenings/weekends. Derelict land attracts travellers and makes residents feel unsafe at home. Street lights are frequently unlit even though reported. Grass verges rarely cut. Never see community support officers or police (I've lived here for over 20 ears)
5
Public parks are well maintained. Refuse and recycling leaves much to be desired. Kirklees do not recycle nearly enough. No idea if there is a residents assoication, so on that basis, I would say it is not effective.

Walking on the pavements at Waterloo can be a bit of a hazard. They are uneven and seem to always being dug up. We have bikes to contend with as more and more seem to thing the pavements are not meant for them to use. In the last few months we have now got a lot of e scooters racing on them as well and you can hear them behind you. It is only a matter of time before someone is knocked down
7We have a good service towards the town centre. The bus station seems well run4
We get cars parking on the pavements outside the shops in Waterloo. There is not enough parking there. Wakefield Road is very busy at certain times of the day as it is a main road.
6
Ravensknowle Park is a very nice place to go, with lockdown we could visit the museum which was a shame. Hopefully when lockdown ends things will get back to normality.
4Apart from the park there is not a lot of open spaces in Waterloo34
The most shops we have in Waterloo are mainly takeaways. We do not have as much choice as their used to bw
46566I used to feel very safe5
We get a lot of litter where I live at Cottage Homes. People visit the takeaways and just throw litter everywhere as soon as they have eaten. They don't bother putting it in the bins that they pass. There are more people walking their dogs who let them foul the pavements as you have to be careful where you walk
5I don't think a lot of people feel that they are listened to

Walking and cycling routes are absolutely no use to people with physical disabilities. They need to be able to get around safely and park easily in cars and scooters
3Some of the Huddersfield buses were around when I was a child 30 years ago and they are falling apart. They don't all have the ability to lower the step access. So that means waiting for bus that does.4
The area around Waterloo and Dalton in particular is a race track at times. There are no traffic calming measures on a lot of roads. There is also houses with 4/5 houses but insufficient spaces to park so they cause obstruction for people entering / exiting drive ways. There is also too many work vans parked on residential roads and blockingpavements,
4
The only public space is Ravensknowle park. It is not somewhere I frequent now would I want to whilst dogs are allowed to roam off leads. The roads and the pavements often have dog poo and rubbish not picked up
4
As I say, I don't frequent the park but it is not particularly disabled friendly, uneven paths lack hand rails etc. Some of the pavements in general are absolutely awful , uneven and potholes prime for causing falls.
3
This particular part of Huddersfield lacks places for children to play and things to keep teens entertained. Therefore they are walking the streets, generally drinking alcohol and causing problems
3
Huddersfield town centre has deteriorated so not pleasant to walk around. Decent accessible eateries are lacking. Places that are available are often not central and a drive away
3
Jobs locally aren't brilliant. I travel 20 miles to Leeds to work because I can get a better job and income
3
Huddersfield has some decent housing, it also has some atrocious housing. Make use of some of the derelict shops in the town centre and make it into better houses for people
3
In this particular area spaces to meet are limited and not accessible to all
4
I was brought up in the area therefore I have a background. I happen to have known my neighbours all my life but that is coincidence rather than anything to do with the area. I have other neighbours I wouldn't recognise if I fell over them
4
I feel generally safe walking around in places I am familiar with. I do not generally go out at night
4
I do see litter on the street, I do see dog poo on the street. I occasionally see a road sweeper but not regular. The bins are emptied fortnightly, re-cycling could be better there is no glass collection anymore
2
Not really, I have voted for any other party but labour for years - but yet we still have Barry Sheerman. I don't have a conversation about the local community and if I did, I wouldn't be listened to

I am a stroke victim, I can walk around with my stick. I have very little difficulty. The only problem I find is where there are ramps on the pavements for cars to access their drives. This is something I have to deal with as it is better for cars to be off the road
6We are well served by public transport in Waterloo. My only disappointment is the 262 withdrawal. We used to get it to Brighouse to see our grand kids. The replacement 261 now goes to Heckmondike4
Cross Green Road is used as a shortcut to traffic. Sometimes cars drive along it at very high speed even though there is a school at the bottom. Large artics also use it to access the warehouse. So traffic calming measures are not a practical answer
4557
in normal times Ravensknowle Park and Tolson Museum are great places to take the Grand kids. We are also in Friends of Tolson Group
4Myself and my wife are both retired. Our daughter walks to work in a local store6
We live on a cul-de-sac, I don't like how the nearby cottage homes are now no longer reserved for older people. We sometimes hear shouting and noise from people who might have possible mental health problems. I know housing cannot limit who gets a property. I feel sorry for the elderly people there who lived there for years and now have to out up with unsuitable neighbours
6We've lived here 8 years and have a good mix of friends here7666

I enjoy walking but no matter where you walk in Waterloo there is heavy traffic. The pavements on my street are very uneven and breaking up due to cars parking on them and blocking pedestrian access on a regular basis. Waterloo has been designed for heavy traffic rather than pedestrians. After it has rained the spray from cars is very heavy and you have to hope you get past before a car comes or you'll get soaked. This is because water does not drain away but collects in puddles.
1
Public transport is a joke. In London you can be guaranteed a bus to wherever you are going at anytime of day with highly subsidised fares. Here you are lucky to get a bus at all especially in the evening and on a Sunday. They often don't run on time and the fares are way too expensive and it is cheaper to get a taxi if there is more than one person from your household travelling. The condition of the Tiger buses especially leave a lot to be desired. Public transport in general in Kirklees is not fit for purpose. If they can have an excellent service in London why can't we? What happened to levelling up? Why do other councils give free bus passes at 60 but I have to wait until I am 67? My husband will get his in November when he is 66 but I have another 7 years to wait. We are both retired but do not have a huge income.

Traffic and parking particularly on my road is a problem because cars park on the pavements, making it difficult for pedestrians to pass. Sunnymead is used as a car park by people working in or visiting the area. A particular problem is when there is a bowling match at the Waterloo bowling club. They seem to think this street is in fact the Club's own car park.

At the rear of my house is a field that backs onto the wood (the reason I bought my house). Unfortunately, there is now a chicken farm in the field that is being run as a business. This attracts flies especially when it is a warm day. It is not very nice when you hang your clean washing out to dry and it gets covered in lots of large flys or when you are constantly trying to keep them out of your house. The field itself is currently an eyesore as there is all sorts of rubbish lying around it. The ancient wood is not looked after. Waterloo itself is just full of takeaways and heavy traffic. It needs small independent shops and cafes and parking/a decent public transport service that would allow people to visit. It needs clean and inviting areas for people to relax in. All we have is traffic that is noisy, not good for people's health and generally unpleasant.

There is an ancient woodland in Waterloo that people can walk in but it is not looked after by anyone. Without proper care it will die away. See my previous comments about the need for quite and relaxing places
1In Waterloo there is nowhere for play and recreation.5
There is good access to supermarkets and takeaways. There is a chemist, GPS, opticians and a very good dentist (although it is private). There are a number of hairdressers but it lacks small independent shops that sell fresh local produce. There are definitely too many takeaways.
4Yes if you want to work in retail or a hairdressers or a takeaway. Not sure about anything else.5
The street where I live is a friendly and I have great neighbours. There are one or two houses that are now being bought as buy to let. They make excellent starter homes and would help people get on the housing market but this cannot happen if they are being used as buy to let
3
There is a pub and a bowling club. I am not aware of anything where young people can meet and have access to sports or other areas of interest. There is little for older people either.
3
I definitely feel I belong on my street. I am lucky to have great neighbours who look out for each other. Not sure what Waterloo's identity is other than for takeaways.
5Mostly yes but not always if I walking on my own at night.6
Most of the houses on my street are well cared for. The field at the rear of our properties leaves a lot to be desired. It's current state and use is not suitable for a residential area in my opinion.

The council does not make people aware of requests for planning permission. People find out by word of mouth and rumour and often it is too late to make your views known. The former Crown Garage being a case in point. I understand it will become yet another take away. We the residents were not consulted.
Better and more affordable public transport. More emphasis on small local businesses that sell local produce. No more take aways. Less traffic and more places to relax. Somewhere for people to socialise. A residential area is not the place for a chicken farm. Stop parking on pavements
The council needs to make proposals for improvement and then consult the residents before any action is taken.

Pavements not level E Scooters on pavements make it dangerous Entrance/Exit to Cottage Homes very dangerous - reinstate mirror opposite? Cut back vegetation to improve the view Reinstate pavements after cable work
6Bus Stop on way to Huddersfield has been moved further away making the walk too far Plenty of buses bus shelter would be nice2
Cottage Homes parking insufficient and people park blocking the turn around. Visiting professionals find it hard to get a space Difficult for ambulances and bin lorry and access bus
5
Cut back vegetation to allow for better conditions on pavements Resurface pavements where necessary Only takeaways in the area and all their rubbish Not nice after dark Put pavements back after installing gas pipes Lower curb by shop to get parking off the road - it blocks traffic Parking corner of Albany/Edgeware Rd
5Wood nearby - wouldn't go after dark Access to woods easy Also Ravensknowle Park5
Not much at Cottage Homes end although Bowling Club issued invitation to Sunday afternoon sessions with music planned Not much for older people and poor facilities for youngsters
5well served area - small and big shops but no PO or Bank Near to everything7good local job opportunities7
Good mix of housing Cottage Homes - some issues with tenancies, repairs and asb
6
Cottage homes enjoy neighbourliness and coffee mornings - look out for each other Invitation to bowling club sunday afternoons Lots of takeaways but YP need them as nowhere else to go Not much off the housing complex for older people - mentioned a range of activities they would like to see - dancing, pilates, things to keep brain active
7Proud to live in Waterloo and like the area6
Feel less safe after dark Have locks and spy hole in door so feel safe in own homes
5
Streets are littered - plenty of bins but not everyone uses them Some places are unkempt Overhanging vegetation and streets not sprayed so litter gets caught up
6
Like the idea of looking at small communities rather than Hudds/Kirklees wide Able to 'tell the housing officer' and police drop into coffee morning regularly Need to hear our voices - cant leave it all to Cllrs Online services excludes a lot of people - particularly elderly But will they take notice?
move the bus stop closer Put contact details and photo of Housing Officer on noticeboard Sort out the entrance to Cottage Homes before there is an accident
Mirror at entrance

Cycle lanes peter out at busy junctions. Lot of traffic congestion Use garage forecourt as left turn slip lane - can this be formalised?
5Local and accessible for town2
Cant park outside or near local independent shops traffic calming needed on Waterloo Rd Reversing out of drive onto Waterloo Rd now much more dangerous
1
No not attractive planters in island - Council came and dug up plants and just left them. Planting outside taxi office not maintained or by retail park
5
trees not regularly maintained in and around area Council - dont plant them if you're not going to look after them! Lack of investment in the area Need better signage for footpaths
4
More in the Almondbury ward end Lack of small kids play area Ravensknowle park good but Rec by taxis needs improving
5
MacDonalds major issue - ASB, litter, YPs and cars. too near residents. Litter big problem Concerns over non display of planning notices or not in highly visible areas eg Retail Park notices go up in Almondbury Ward not Dalton
6Lots of opportunities Retail and Industrial estate plus Morrisons and independents and sole traders6Mix is good4
St Pauls and MURC provide opportunities Dalton and Rawthorpe Library The Gym and Yetton together
2
Fragmented, not cohesive Not clearly defined Main Rd and Ward boundaries dont help
4Wont walk out alone at night My area well lit2
Flower beds and roundabout need landscaping and flower planting Even hit and miss with weeding edges
1
FB page for ward - need to highlight Watterloo more prominently Boost posts to engage and involve more people
Map and promote local walks Promote FB page for ward Promote Dalton together
Individual health and wellbeing of residents is key - pollution on Wakefield Rd, engines running outside residential properties waiting for lights to change, improve left turn using garage site for slip lane Lack of greenery and maintained trees like outside taxi office
