This list is limited to lenses with no native GFX/V equivalent, i.e. very fast, very wide, very sharp, very small, macro, zooms, etc. Where available, native lenses will perform better; there is thus no reason to buy an old 35/3.5 SLR lens when you can have a modern native GFX/V 38/2.5 (unless you already own the old SLR lens, in which case you can just test it yourself and this table is irrelevant anyway...). However, the range of native lenses is yet very small - there IS therefore a reason to buy a rangefinder or SLR 35/1.4

This is an informal guide, not a science document: Please learn more about a specific lens of your interest, and judge what level of vignette or corner degradation you find acceptable for your style of photography

Discrepancies between two user comments might be due to personal tolerances, strong sample variations, tests conducted at different focus distances, or external factors like adaptors used or fixed sunshades filed off

Check the flange distance when adapting exotic lenses, and when adapting to Leica S with its much longer flange distance than Fuji and Hasselblad

Sorted by focal length, then speed. Carl Zeiss resides under 'Zeiss', as do his lenses for Contax Yashica. Dr Rudolph Hugo Meyer Optik, Görlitz, resides under 'Meyer'. Long rear barrels (without any glass - such as in long tele lenses) tend to cause mechanical vignetting. If it is possible to remove them (without harming the vintage lens!!!), that is usually beneficial. A 2oomm lens shouls usually cover about 4x5"

The gain in separation of GFX/V over FF is 1/2 stop. A 35/1.4 FF lens on GFX yields, assuming full coverage, the angle of view and separation that a 28/1.2 gives on FF

Regular film-era medium and large format lenses have much larger image diameters than GFX/XCD and thus will cover well and not cause smearing. They are thus not listed here except as references, along with the native lenses

lens remains a circular fisheye, i.e. black corners throughout the zoom range. 8-1o mm give a fully circular image that however does not use the entire sensor height. 11+ mm show a cropped circle: the sensor height is fully used, the width not.

All excellent (without shift, that is), but aperture control requires either a smart adapter, or a trick: preset the aperture with a Nikon body, use the stop down button, unmount and then mount it to GFX via adapter. You’ll even have some shift ability left with all lenses. The 19 and 85 are particularly good.

Vignette due to permanently-fixed sunshade, but sample image shows that even at infinity, 482o out of the 6192 pixels image height, and 712o out of the 8256 pixels image width are fine, and twice that at close focus. That is an overall crop of 764o x 56oo at infinity, or a crop factor of 1.19 x at infinity; or a o.94x crop over FF instead of o.79x - and about half that at closer focus! Shaving the hood off mechanically might improve things further.
