Readmission to NC State

Now that the Alternative Readmission Program is now gone, please join Registration and Records and members of the Admissions Committee to discuss the process for student readmission. Review the proposed materials for a student self-assessment that will help advisors better prepare a letter of support (or not) for students seeking readmission. This tool can also be useful in referring students to appropriate campus resources for support and to assist the advisor in helping the student move toward academic success. Feel free to bring your lunch!

QPR Gatekeeper Training

According to the Surgeon General’s National Strategy for Suicide Prevention (2001), a gatekeeper is someone in a position to recognize a crisis and the warning signs that someone may be contemplating suicide. Gatekeepers include parents, friends, neighbors, teachers, ministers, doctors, nurses, office supervisors, squad leaders, foremen, police officers, advisors, caseworkers, firefighters, and many others who are strategically positioned to recognize and refer someone at risk of suicide.
As a QPR-trained Gatekeeper you will learn to:
• Recognize the warning signs of suicide
• Know how to offer hope
• Know how to get help and save a life

Because this is a special certification process, this is a registration only event and will be limited to no more than 25 participants. This special session of the QPR certification will be facilitated by Tim Riggins, Suicide Prevention Coordinator and Tina Nelson, EH & S Center Program Manager.

NACADA webcast: Assessing Academic Advising
Steps in Developing an Assessment Plan for Academic Advising.

Academic advising is integral to the success, retention, and persistence of students in colleges and universities across the globe. For institutions to identify the success of the academic advising experiences of students, it is essential to have an assessment of academic advising plan. Assessment of academic advising is also key to all accreditation efforts by regional accreditation agencies and content-based accreditation efforts.

Presenters for this webinar are Charlie Nutt, NACADA Executive Director; Rich Robbins, Bucknell University; Sharon Aiken-Wisniewski, University of Utah; and Karen Boston, University of Arkansas-Fayetteville.
