FolkMrs. Folk, a former teacher at Marlboro Elementary school, and her husband, who farmed in the district, donated the initial sum of $500,000 to benefit graduates of Marlington High School through the awarding of scholarships. The criteria for the scholarship was designed andapproved by the Marlington Board of Education. The overriding philosophy of this scholarship is based on the principles exhibited and valued by the Folks. 5/2/2016Ashley White-Stumpf Memorial ScholarshipAshley was a dedicated student and athlete at Marlington and decorated soldier in service to her country. She was one of a select group of females assigned to the US Rangers Joint Special Operations Task Force. She served as part of a special Cultural Support Team whose mission was offering aid and assistance to mothers and children in embattled areas. Ashley was killed in action in Khandahar Province, Afghanistan on October 22, 2011. A scholarship for $1,000 is available.Any graduating high school senior female from Marlington High School who has been involved in varsity athletics and will be enrolling at an accredited college. Special consideration will be given to candidates who were involved in distance running, as this was Ashley's sports passion. They are now again accepting applications for one of five $1,000 scholarships. This award is to help students pursue a higher education to help prepare them for a career in agriculture. 4/7/2016Quota InternationalEach year Quota provides scholarships to qualified Stark County students of good academic standing who are entering the field of communication disorders, speech pathology, speech and hearing science, audiology and deaf education. The scholarships of $1,000 will be awarded in the fall of 2015. Applicants may also be speech or hearing impaired majoring in any field. Recipients will be recognized at a Quota-Canton meeting later this year. 4/1/2016Motorcyclist Memorial FoundationSeniors are asked to visit the Memorial Wall located at the American Legion grounds in Hopedale, Ohio. Students will type a 200 words or more original essay describing their interpretation of the Wall. Essays will be judged for its content and originality. Students can do artwork of the Wall which is at least 11 1/2 by 14 in size. Any medium is acceptable (pen, pencil, pastels, water colors or computer imaging). Interpretation should be portrayed in art rendition.
