|11/18/2019||Curiously, there's a monthly average of 30 views from folks coming back to check out this spreadsheet every month, even though the pack has been obsolete and silent for more than a year. I'm really glad to have provided, along with the other modders, some good fun for the community back then!|
The experience I had doing the GBM and its server, and the people I've met in my time on Eco truly changed me. So many great people around the same place! So I decided to give a brief explanation here of what's happened and what came out of it:
Around July and August 2018, I started doing some volunteer QA work for the Eco team on my free time. The expectation was that if I did good work, I could maybe help out/work as a contractor in Eco. Meanwhile, I was keeping with up the pack, server, work and other stuff. I was also modding alongside Kirthos (popular Eco mod author). Unfortunately, a Panic Disorder and anxiety issues that I had recovered from 2 years in the past came back extremely strongly. I had panic attacks every single day for about 3 months. Anything that would cause me stress or anxiety would trigger a panic attack..and anything related to game development used to cause me A LOT of anxiety. This forced me to drop all work on the pack and game development in general, and almost made me lose my day job (thankfully, they were very understanding). I had to seek solutions anywhere I could and, thankfully, about 7 months later I was clear of it. I still have a few anxiety-related issues to this date, but they are a lot more manageable.
When I came back to Eco, still around the end of 2018, the community had naturally changed and shifted. Multiple modders moved on to other games and didn't have time or interest to work on their mods anymore. New game versions meant incompatible mods and issues. Many of those mods had private implementations or models, and certain modders could not be contacted (or did not give permission) to maintain or edit their work. Some also sold their work or decided to turn their work private, for use in theirs or others exclusive servers.
All of this disencouraged me to even start looking into what could be salvaged and what had to be removed. I didn't want to make a pack update with less mods than before, or even 10% less content than before. The whole drama around private/exclusive/licensed mods also annoyed me a lot - it's not like Eco has a playerbase the size of Minecraft. You can't really expect to monetize your content on such an environment. Of course, people are free to do whatever they want with their work, but that meant a lot more (boring and annoying) work for me to contact these people and tolerate their opinions and behaviors.
Some people suggested me to take over, maintain, or "clone" abandoned and privatized mods and make them part of the GBM. I probably don't have to explain the huge extra amount of unpaid work that would fall on my back. It was all a bit too much.
I'm not happy saying this though. As I mentioned, my experience in and around Eco changed me a whole lot, for good. So I thank you for sticking around and hoping for some news for so long. It's always crazy to me when I see people still looking forward and requesting information, to this very date. Back then, a couple people even asked if I'd take donations, and how much I would request to keep the work on the pack..I don't think I was ever more humbled in my life. Unfortunately, it's a lot of hours and a lot of effort, and Eco (and Modded Eco) doesn't have the playerbase or activity to truly sponsor/Patreon someone. It has to be viable for them to do it and stand on their own.
The Glorious Bean Server is still alive, running vanilla, to this date - but the wildly fluctuating activity keeps the server outdated most of the time, since when a new round starts we get an influx of new players that vanish in a week or so. The server is kept up with 100% uptime due to the unpaired benevolence and attention of Pam, from the Eco community, owner of the Killservers hosting company. Fun fact: she was the one who told me "Just do a modpack already" and lended me a server to test it, on the start of it all.
And from what came out of all this experience..I hinted at before about me and Kirthos keeping close contact and working on mods together. By the end of 2018, Kirthos invited me to work on a project he had started, a colony-sim in the vein of Rimworld and Dwarf Fortress. We are releasing its early-early-access version, hopefully this week, on Itch.io, after more than a year working together. Our company is called Compiled Games, and is composed by me, Kirthos, Mari (my wife, who did graphics for our Eco mods, modpack, server and Discord) and Lio (a friend of Kirthos who tested out our mods back then). I can post links here once it's released.
I hope this gives some clarity and closure to anyone seeking it. I cannot confirm or deny that I would ever work on Eco mods again, but given my current schedule and available time..it's extremely unlikely to happen. Still, if you wish to contact me on Discord for any questions or info, feel free to do so. Kirthos is also extremely skilled on Eco modding and coding and is happy to answer any questions - he has helped multiple people over the months with varied issues.
Thank you, and always remember to EAT YOUR BEANS!

Will start testing for compatibilities and deprecated mods soon. I've been very sick for a week now, so I cannot say how quick the new modpack update will happen, or how many mods will be left behind (until they get updated for 7.5 - that will break multiple mods). Thanks for playing with the pack, have a good one! :D|

Has been hard to do anything without time, so I can't give any estimates until the dust settles. Thanks for all the support!|

|Release Date||05/20/2018||05/14/2018||Everything works on 7.4.4. When updating your game/server, remember to RE-INSTALL the modpack! If you add new mods, remember to check their last tested versions - 7.4.4 broke a couple mods, that are NOT in this modpack, which broke dozens of servers.|

This week was a bit of a mess to me, next week will start getting much busier...but still should have enough time to keep this going, maybe not as instantaneous as the 7.4 update was :)|

|Modpack 1.2.0 update for 7.4.1 released!|
|05/08/2018 1.1.2 / 7.3.3||From more than 1 week running, GBServer - that runs GBModpack since its launch - only errored once, and seems to have been due to a very rare Eco issue that is reportedly fixed on 7.4. This means the modpack is stable beyond any expectation! :D All praise to the modders and especially SLG for the brilliant work with Eco's moddability.|
|Regarding lag and FPS drops: After more than 1 week, Tick rates are within expected (worldwide powergrid being a clear cause of higher tick rates, but still negligible). FPS will drop critically [to 10-15] in areas with crazy amounts of objects spread around. This FPS hit might be lower on 7.4 - I'm hoping to make a simple test to see if FPS gets better on Eco 7.4 GBM 1.2.0 vs. Eco 7.3.3 GBM 1.1.2.|
