Skin Tone and Faces: Cinematography Pedagogy Which Foregrounds Inclusivity and Diversity in Teaching Lighting2019LinkBetter understand the Importance of Lighting in relation to the expressivity of lighting and faces in a film drama, and the development of lighting in cinematography.Research Qualitative (Self analysis done is based on author's observation and there is no statistical analysis involved).Datas are collected as analysis break down based on History, Experience, and CultureIn the beginning, the researcher discussed about how the lighting started with painting. Painting is started since old time and emphasize that all the nature things can support the lighting.

In the following sections, the researcher talked about following of lighting process, which are photographs, screen test, and cinematography or films.

To conclude, lighting has a relation with cinematography. Colour has a important role in lighting, for example the darker skintone will absorb the lighting it self.
Strength:
1. Use real-life subject
2. Precise explanation
3. A lot of pictures as example

Weakness:

Cinematography and Film Making Research: Reflections on a Practice led Doctoral Process2019LinkStudies the digital technologies or environments that impact lighting processes. Moreover, this research covers exploring changing lighting paradigms and addressing the apparent lack of consideration around emerging lighting techniques. Provide a brief overview of the author's doctoral process and to highlight a few central challenges that arose when entering academic research from a practically focused background.Research Qualitative (Self analysis of a case done is based on author's experiment and observation of a case and there is no statistical analysis involved).Datas are collected as analysis break down based on doctoral process. In the beginning, the researcher discussed about evolving practice, what factors can be a problem in the project: familiar and new director, limited time frame and often script-based nature of films, prioritizing the demands of the first assistant director, the changeable weather, their temperamental equipment—or navigating other forms of problem-solving.

In the following sections, the researcher talked about experimental, relating theory and practice, and report section.

To conclude, the role of the cinematographer in which the consideration of light as the material expands the discipline across a nexus of technologies and production arenas.
Strength:
1. Uses empirical as the types of evidence
2. Gives lots of solutions.
3. Explained the conclusions well

Weakness:
1. There is no detail explanation in some sections.
2. Uses difficult terms/ vocabulary

Sung, Y.Reading The Light Right: The Exposure of Asian Skin Tones in Cinematography2020LinkStudy of contemporary cinematographers make technical and aesthetic decisions about exposure when working with actors of different skin colors –specifically those of Asian ethnicities. In details, the author explains the interaction between colour, the quality of light, and Asian skin in digital film productionResearch Qualitative (Self analysis of a case done is based on author's experiment and observation of a case and there is no statistical analysis involved).Datas are collected as analysis break down based on Experience and observation on some of filmsIn the beginning, the researcher talked about Calibrating Whiteness in Lighting, one of the most crucial thing because it affects creating the images for storytelling and also controlling the light passing through, and to achieve the desired images.

The following part is about Visualizing Different Skin Tones. The author also explains that heavily pigmented skin absorbs more light. There are two types of melanin contributing to an individual's subtler skin color differences: red/yellow pheomelanin and brown/black eumelanin. There are three lighting techniques that the author presents in this section, namely (1) Bold and prominent edge lights, (2) Bold and prominent edge lights, and (3) Pink-magenta bounce boards as a fine light brush.

All in all, there are many things to consider for this lighting (such as the skin will have the desired colors added, the color temperature, bounced light to brush the skin with a certain tincture, etc).
Strength:
1. Use many case studies.
2. Straight forward article
3. Give a lot of examples examples

Weakness:
1. There are somes typos

Walvoord, Dave & Animation, DreamWorks.Lighting Design for Stylized Animation2019LinkStudy on how to construct a consistent lighting style for animation, as well as, the techniques used to achieve that style.Research Qualitative (Self analysis of a case done is based on author's experiment and observation of a case and there is no statistical analysis involved).Datas are collected as analysis break down based on Experience and observation on some of animationsIn the beginning, the researcher talked about the reason why the researcher is choosing only one film as a lighting studies and the key of consistent style.

The next part is about techniques in the choosing film (character lighting, over lighting, silhouette, light and shadow, limited number of lights, grouping, exposure, and depth).

To conclude, there are some of common lighting techniques that we can used to make an animation.
Strength:
1. Straight forward article
2. Clear explanation with pictures
3. Easy to understand

Weakness:
1. Some sections are confusing because of the font of the text.

Hermawan, H., Albana, I., Prasetyp, A. B., Deden.Penerapan Pencahayaan pada Animasi Tiga Demensi Teater Merah Putih untuk Mengatur Dinamika dan Kualitas Gambar Animasi2021LinkResearch on change the old lighting method in order to reduce the rendering process time without reducing the animation quality. This paper is about doing a remake of the “Red and White Theater” animation.Research Qualitative (Self analysis done is based on author's observation and there is no statistical analysis involved). Research Quantitative (Survey of evaluating "Merah Putih" theater).Datas are collected as analysis break down based on experiment and observationIn the beginning, the researcher discussed about the theory of 3D, following by the problems and the solutions.

In addition, the author also explained one of the techniques that is often and commonly used is the Three Point Lighting technique and talked about the purpose of using the Low-Key Lighting technique

All in all, the research is succesful which can give solution to the reader and can give the evidence as well.
Strength:
1. Explained the theory in detail
2. Very well written and efficient

Weakness:
1. Lots of typos
2. There are no further explanation on some lighting techniques
