For the last homework, many people answered the extension question. Some said there were 144 squares on a 12 by 12 chess board. I think there are more! We have already investigated the number of squares on an 8 x 8 chessboard. We found that there are lots of larger squares within the chessboard eg, 2 by 2 squares, 3 x 3 squares etc! Can you find a systematic way to count all of the 2 by 2 squares, and maybe spot a pattern and find out how many squares altogether? Spend up to 30 minutes on this work.
