| Summer Mentorship Hours
| 8/1/2015 | 5 | My mentor and I met up and installed our main tool for writing code and decided to begin with a lesson. In our lesson, I learned where the language we're using is mostly used, what kinds of jobs I can land with knowledge on the subject, and also a breif overview on how computer languages evolve. After the lesson, my mentor and I started the most basic program we could make as an introduction into writing code while explaining essential components along the way. The most basic program one could make is quite simply making words appear on screen. I found that it is easiest to think of actions as if they were a species, start with a general classification and widdle one's way down to a specific command. After creating the incredibly time consuming program, we moved on to number storage. With number storage, we can assign different numbers a value and make their value show up on screen. However, as nice as this may sound, the number has to be chosen for the user, and the program rewritten every time the number needs to be changed. | 5
| 8/24/2015 | 5 | My mentor and I met up the Coffee House just as we did last time. Without the need to install any new propgrams we were able to jump straight into writing code. I wanted to know if we could create a random number generator, wherein each number has its own specific message. I got the ieda from watching a game of Dungeons and Dragons, but instead of leaving a player's fate to the game master, a set of 20 messages can be ready and make the game completely fair. The idea I had combines the twent-sided dice with a game master. My mentor proposed about 4 different ways to attack this idea I had and we went through every way to write the program with highly detailed explanations for every command, why it is used, syntax, and ways it can be applied to other situations. My mentor mentioned how useful the pre-determined message system can be, and decided to teach me different ways the message system can be used. One way the message system can be used is to help with determining clothing options for different days. We made a list of months and different messages to accompany each month as they are called to by the program. | 10
| School Mentorship Hours
| 10/3/2015 | 4 | My mentor and I met at our normal place to meet and got straight to work. We decided to work on language. C# is the language we use most because of the jobs it can find me and because of the tools built in. The day was more of a lesson day and helped a lot with my understanding on how syntax works. | 14
| 11/10/2015 | 4 | Today, my mentor taught me about directories and multi-layer programs where different layers reference eachother and work faster than the average | 18
| 11/23/2015 | 3 | Today I started working with my mentor in planning my independent component and we made mini programs which have some aspects of what I will need however non used HTML so that will take me the longest to figure out when it's time for my component work. We also went over how the application will make it to the Web for the senior team and my friends to use. | 21 | I don't know if I count the time that we were working on IC's so I didn't. A lot of my IC time was with my mentor and I dont know how to judge that.
| 11/28/2015 | 3 | Today more mini programs were made, these ones we're random number generators to show how messages can be relayed to visitors. | 24
| 12/5/2015 | 3 | Today we practiced retrieving a Json file from a website and navigating its information. We practiced on stocks and small real estate. | 27
| 12/19/2015 | 3 | Today we went through the steps to actually design and publish a website, from start to finish along with how to update and leave space for updates. | 30
| 1/9/2016 | 3 | Today I practiced my CSS, HTML, and Jsonp skills. By making a mini site that also pulls information. | 33
| 1/16/2016 | 3 | Just a lot of making small applications on CSS to develop my skill there, he also gave me resources to study. Great study. | 36
| 1/30/2016 | 3 | Practiced a small bit Java but that is harder than hard and took a long time for me to grasp and we didnt get to start making mini programs. | 39
| 2/6/2016 | 3 | We started writing miniprograms for Java, and my mentor showed me what Jquery is and the benefits to using it. | 42
| 2/20/2016 | 3 | My mentor gave me a book to study out of for Jquery and Java, it's literally a textbook and we sit and do practice problems out of it | 45
| 3/5/2016 | 3 | Just pracice problems from the textbook. | 48
| 3/18/2016 | 3 | We spent time planning how I want my IC#2 to go but decided that the only times we're going to meet are for the IC#2 and I don't know how to count those hours | 51
| Independent Component 1 Hours
| 12/21/2015 | 3 | Set up my framework and drew out how I want my website to work and what features I want. All of my articles tell me this is the most important step because without it I'm just blindly typing code and hoping for something to come out of it. | 3
| 12/23/2015 | 2 | Found the Jsonp (information) from another weather application to use so that way I don't need to get my own doppler radar and weather equipment. Using this will allow me to show things like altitude and cloudiness. | 5
| 12/25/2015 | 4 | Tweaked the Jsonp and located the references I need for my CSS | 9
| 12/27/2015 | 2 | Started writing the HTML for my website, it's really hard to sift through the Jsonp because it is literally all the information from the weather site I chose to use however it is worth it because I get to add stuff that isn't normally thought of for weather features. | 11
| 12/29/2015 | 4 | Still writing HTML, and a bit of jquery mixed in, but typing for hours isn't the boring part. The boring part is the occasional test where you find out what's wrong periodically and try to find out where you messed up. | 15
| 12/31/2015 | 5 | Today I started working on my top layer which has the refined C# code that does stuff. The way explained to me is that the HTML has the references on where to go. So my bottom layer has the HTML that will say there is a button to press. The top layer is the C# associated with the button that tells what the button does. | 20
| 1/3/2016 | 4 | Started writing layer two which is my CSS, that tells all my interactive things what to do and where to source them from. | 24
| 1/5/2016 | 6 | Today was jquery day, which is all of my UI related bits. Not fun at all because I don't know jquery at all and most of this is looking up lines of code and making sense of them on my own. | 30
| 1/7/2016 | 3 | Finishing my Jquery, thank the lord its over. but that still means nothing If i dont give any meat and that comes later... Great. | 33
| 1/10/2016 | 4 | There was a bug. Today I had to look back on my code and figure out what went wrong. Sifting through this many lines of code is the worst punishment ever. As my mentor says, "There is always a problem. Always." | 37
| 1/12/2016 | 2 | Not a terrible day, I've decided that I am nowhere near a graphic designer. There go my dreams. But yeah that's the weakness of my trade but thats okay because we make cool stuff. | 39
| 1/13/2016 | 3 | My mentor warned me that a project such as duplicating code is harder than it seems. And man is he right. Today I'm adding the Zip codes for all 50 states how fun. | 42
| 1/15/2016 | 4 | Today I made the table which was much harder than I thought it would be. I tried to round my edges but my CSS skills are not up to that level and what I'm looking up brings me nowhere. HOWEVER, I got my button with a rounded edge. And thats cool as a cucumber. | 46
| 1/16/2016 | 3 | Aother bug. I feel like Mark Watney. But the layout that I was typing away and away at without actually checking to see if it is functional... is well not functional. So much more than a bug. But lets call it that so I feel better. | 49
| 1/17/2016 | 4 | Halfway through the fixing. Turns out, programmers aren't great commentators on Youtube. Who would have thought. No worries, little by little I'm watching my little baby come to life. | 53
| 1/20/2016 | 3 | Today I started working on the little features that are going into my table. Although not interesting, I was able to include humidity and what station my information is coming from. Partly cloudy? I got your back. | 56
| 1/22/2016 | 4 | So.... the fashion aspect was going in way over my head. But Jr. Mark Watney over here got an image that changes with different weather conditions. Rainy? Got you a rainy icon. Clear day? Got you the sunny icon. | 60
| 1/24/2016 | 5 | Taking it simple, an HTML day cant be too bad. Until your autopilot gets you a bug. Great. Why can nothing go my way. But html for sourcing my Jsonp. | 65
| 1/26/2016 | 3 | I wont be able to publish my app. That is a blow, but I can do it later on to show off in my last presentation. I did however write a good deal of my Jquery which is awesome and well. When you see it you'll see how it was a long long time for me to write. | 68
| 1/28/2016 | 5 | Jquery.ui.js thats all I have to say. Its sourced from a lot of different places. Its like more than 1000 lines long. And its gorgeous. | 73
| 1/30/2016 | 2 | Done my best. Its done to my furthest capabilities without publishing it. And that will cause countless problems so I'd rather not at this point. | 75
| Independent Component 2 Hours
| 3/16/2016 | 3 | Set up my framework and drew out how I want my website to work. This prevents me from blindly writing code and hoping something comes out of it. | 3
| 3/19/2016 | 5 | Found the jSonp that could work best for a store.Tweaked the Jsonp and located the references I need for my CSS this file was exceptionally large, exceptionally large indeed. | 8
| 3/23/2016 | 4 | Started writing my HTML, but I ran into issues immediately with my Javascript because the browser can only read HTML and I need my Javascript. So I needed to come up with my own way to make the languages cooperate. | 12
| 3/27/2016 | 3 | I started integrating my jquery. It's not fun at all. I'm working on making any sort of animation. Im focusing on making images big when you hover over them. | 15
| 3/30/2016 | 2 | I gathered pictures to use for my store and kinda just pulled from google images to fill in for my "products" and also read to learn how to make pulldown menus | 17
| 4/4/2016 | 5 | I attempted my first pulldown menu. It uh.. didn't go as planned but that's alright. I read more about it and made a small one with one option. But I need to translate it to HTML, so that will be a fun mess. | 22
| 4/5/2016 | 4 | The pulldown menus are ready-ish.. Its a very important ish. I need to make the animation smooth and link everything so that each option goes places. I can't publish because I would need a domain name which cost's too much, and I'd get sued for using images that aren't mine. I'd rather not deal with that. | 26
| 4/8/2016 | 3 | Today I spent hours learning how to make my scrolling stuff hide behind my header and look professional. Because anybody can make thier stuff scroll through the tools at the top of the browser but chaning it on the page gives a premium feel. | 29
| 4/12/2016 | 3 | I animated my images so that way they get bigger when I touch them. Mostly reading today. | 32
| 4/15/2016 | 5 | Today I added text and content to my website. I mostly read about jQuery and how to make carrousels for my images of products like they're expected on a website with credibility. | 37
| 4/17/2016 | 4 | I made a template for carrousels but it's mostly broken and I'd rather stick to the old fashioned way of clicking new images. Theres some stuff far beyond my talent. | 41
| 4/19/2016 | 2 | I played mostly with Javascrpit and themes, making sure everything is the same color and has a consistent uniform look. | 43
| 4/20/2016 | 5 | I rounded my edges on buttons and rounded how the entire site looks. It's almost ready but at the same time it will never be complete because I need to go make gaps for updates. | 48
| 4/21/2016 | 3 | Had my mentor test it and my sister, it's slower but it's mine and I'm proud of it. I just hate making languages function with eachother. | 51
