Now this is a flame-retardent, material, it helps to reduce the flame or the heat, on the uniform. Now also, you wear your helmet. It's a hard plastic. It helps, to protect your head in case of things falling from the sky that sort of thing. Now one thing that you have to remember when you're inside a building in a fire. Although we have all of this good clothing on, it's kind of a false sense of security. When you get into a burning building the temperature can get very, very hot, sometimes 1200 degrees. With all this protective clothing on, you're not gonna really feel all of that heat. That's why firefighters, work by what we call the "buddy system". Go into a building together, we protect each other, if I see that you're getting in trouble or maybe, you're getting too close to the fire, I can tap you on the shoulder and say come on firefighter Dave, let's get out, it's getting too dangerous. That's why we wear the protective clothing, that you have on; the helmet, the pants, the coat, boots, and also our gloves. Helps us do our job a little better" -former OFD firefighter Cliff Chandler

They haul sugar, it's liquified sugar, comes right out of this tube here, & you know where it goes? It goes right into the pop that you drink" -Dave Hood "Trucks today are really high-tech, see this computer keyboard here? This is a computer, satellite location system, & it'll talk to headquarters & they can send you messages on it, & also, they can keep track of exactly where the, valuable load that you're hauling is, at all times. The brains for the computer, are located down here in this little box here. And if you look close you'll see a little dish up there. "This is an 18-wheeler & it will deliver almost everything to the food we eat to the furniture in our homes" "You gotta see the inside of this baby it looks like the, the control panel of the Space Shuttle almost" "And it even has a sleeping compartment" "Now the sleeping compartment is there so that trucker teams like Becky & me can switch off: one can sleep while the other one drives, that saves time along the highway" "Speaking of time we need to get going so we can load our truck" "That's right we gotta pick up our load so, come on along!" -Dave Hood & Becky Borg "This is a garbage dump or landfill, & as you can see, space here is limited, so it's always a good idea to recycle as much of your garbage as possible" -Dave Hood "Now you probably don't think of garbage trucks as being very exciting but they're really pretty neat, come & look at this one: as you can see on the front there's a great big claw device that reaches out, grabs the big cans &, lifts them up over the top of the truck, & then, it dumps them into this part here.
