From Angry Mom Donna Taylor (Thank you Donna!!!): If your loved one has insurance, call and ask the insurance company who in their network prescribes clozapine. They have the information in their pharmacy claims data. Insurance Companies, including managed medicaid plans, all manage the pharmacy benefit. This means they can pull data by drug and identify who the prescriber is. Moms can call their insurance companies and ask for a list of clozapine prescribers. The plans won't have this at the ready, however, they do have access to the data and can get it. Mom's will have to be savvy and ask to speak to the pharmacy manager and then push for them to pull the data and provide names of docs in their region who are prescribing the medication. They need to make a compelling case to get the pharmacist on their side, my kid has TRS, I was told they need clozapine but can't find anyone who prescribes it, its not listed in the directory , I've made zillions of calls- etc etc . you know the drill. Kill them with kindness.If they can't get it, they should file a complaint/ grievance with the plan. It has to be answered within a certain timeframe. If they don't get the names they should file again and again. They should also ask to speak to a care manager and request that the CM advocate on their behalf, again, explaining how the plan can help find Docs who prescribe clozapine by mining their pharmacy data.It's a bit tricky but for families who are really struggling to find someone, I think its worth a shot. I also wonder if a friendly neighborhood pharmacist might be willing to look into their files and float a couple names of Doc's who prescribe clozapine.
