1 offer option to purchase cycle jerseys

2. Clearly mark exits out of the grass parking lot.

3. Visit other biking events to see what they offer participants.

4. You did a great job. Thanks
Make sure to include exit signs so that it's easy to clear the grassy area without issues. In my row I didn't realize that I could not clear the end because cars were parked all the way up to the barrier, not leaving enough room to get out . I then figured that I just needed to basic knowledge down to the dirt road a exit the same way that I came in. That was really not a problem because riders were still out on the course. If you get a lot of bikers departing get at the same time, there could be some confusion if there is no clearly marked exit route to get of that grass.

Need more bathroomso or larger facilities. The lines were extremely long and there were only two toilets in the regist ration area bathroom.
764
I'm not sure if there was a sign pointing to the direction of the bathrooms at Fort Smallwood, but I did not see the bathrooms until I actually went down to the dock to take a picture.
4Didn't use it..7
I can't remember if there were any picnic tables to sit and eat, but the lunch was really nice.

I would rather have a bottled drink than loose cups oder lemonade and other beverages. It more sanitary as well.
I have a 1000 tee shirts that I never wear. I would like the option of purchasing a cycle jersey instead.

Several groupsmall provide this option as a part of there fundraiser. I would definitely purchase one each year if the design changed from year to year. Not sure if I'll ever purchase a tee shirt.

I would however, purchase a Polo Shirt if it has a poly, spandex blend.

A few Dons Johns would be nice. Too many people for such few bathrooms. Come on!

A great, well-supported ride!
76
Slightly slow at the beginning, I think due to the new electronic check-in, but overall very good.
7
Excellent routes, mostly shady and low traffic
7Well-marked6
This year, the rest stops ran low on some food items, which has not happened in previous years. There was *no Italian ice* at mile 89, after I had been counting down to it for miles! They were also running low on food at the mile 78 rest stop when I got there. I arrived at all of the rest stops well before their closing time. The first three rest stops were well-stocked, and the egg and hummus/tomato sandwiches were greatly appreciated! Also, the volunteers were friendly and helpful as always.
Did not use mechanics or SAG support
6
Homemade cookies were the best part! Veggie sandwich also good. (And thanks for the veggie option.) I also got a piece of watermelon before they ran out.

Add to offerings: grapes, PBJ, some commercial power bars. Ice cream or like at later rest stops (Thomas Stone). Maybe boiled potatoes somewhere.
65774
Inadequate offerings at Oak Grove and Thomas Stone, satisfactory but not great offerings at Christ Church and St. Ignatius. Outstanding at Smallwood Park and end-of-ride picnic.
6
No occasion to use but SAG was visible.

Another Major Success !!!!! .
7
I got there early for a change at 7:15 am . Smooth sailing well organized
7
People working were wonderful & Nice . I heard a story of a deaf man needing some help at check -in was unable to get answers .
7Fabulous !!! 7
Accurate & the big signs saved many a rider from missing turns & notified vehicles there were 100's riding
6
Oak Grove was out of bread early . I did get a couple oranges & a stinger gel along with Gatorade & water

Awesome century. I would definitely come again and have no hesitation to recommend it to other riders.
466
Scenic route that's challenging but enjoyable. The only negative is at one highway crossing: traffic was busy therefore we had to wait for awhile before crossing safely
57
All the rest stops are fully stocked and supported by friendly nice folks. There's no wait to get our hands on foods. Plenty of available ice was a big plus!
5

Based on some negative comments on Facebook from residents we need to try to improve the public relations of the event. A lot of money goes back to the community. Perhaps we could get some local articles published to help advertise. Also might ask the SAG driver to watch out for cyclists running stop signs. I train around Nanjemoy frequently and don't need locals more angry than normal. :)
6
Great job by all the volunteers!
6
Early online registration and price breaks are appreciated.
6
Love the roads in Nanjemoy etc.
6
Markings were well done. This is important and sometimes overlooked in other rides. The signs posting a bike ride in progress were also a nice touch. RWGPS route worked perfect, too.
6
Only used two rest stops on the 47 (Smallwood and Thomas Stone) but they were as good as always!
Didn't need the SAG or mechanic support but appreciate their support!
5
Prepackaged sandwiches are a good idea to keep the lines moving. I prefer thinner sandwiches but that's just a personal preference...
I bought a t-shirt and have it

Can't do much better. You guys are the best.
6
Try to keep cars away from the trees. They will compress the earth and damage the trees.
666
Markings are the best. Would be nice to have map of the longer rides.
6
Great food. Great volunteers.

Didn't see info on the-shirt. But I wasn't paying close attention.

Congratulations on a successful event. I will be back for sure, with friends.
45
Oddly, there was only one door open to get into the gymnasium, and no arrows directing people to the one door.
67
I used Ride With GPS this year and it was awesome!
6
Best rest stops for IH 100 yet. I really liked adding gels and waffles to the second rest stop. The hummus sandwiches also were a nice addition. Pickles, too at rest stop 3!

Also, the gatorade concentrate made things nice. I also liked volunteers offering to fill our bottles with ice. Truly this was the best IH 100 yet. (The excellent weather also helped.)
Had no reason to use.6Very nice as always.I did not buy or want a t-shirt

Ensure that the century is 100 miles & allow for day of registration. I will probably not do the ride again if I have to pre-register.
6
Would prefer day of ride registration.
6
The route is LESS than 100 miles (99.6)! I would prefer not to have to ride around the parking lot to get 100 miles.
765
Did not see any mechanics & did not need sag support.

I will come back next year and for the 61 M.
63
I was not given anything during check-in, including map, cue sheet and my paid T-shirt.
63I did not get any.6
It would be nicer if more chairs can be provided.
For Smallwood stop restroom, there were soap but no water.
Food was excellent.
56
Providing more picnic tables would be better.

I got my t-shirt at the end. I had to find someone and asked for it.

Great event overall, I'll continue participating.
766
There was a section of the route where there was soft gravel at the bottom of a downhill. Many riders struggled to maintain control and almost crashed. The warning on the asphalt was not very visible, especially if riding in a group. Please don't include routes with this type of surface.
6
Print the terrain profile in the back of the cue sheet. Place turn sings on the side of the road 1/4 mile before turn.

Easy. Love that registration is not on BikeReg so there were no service fees.
7
Route was great; roads were in great shape with one exception but it was well marked; felt safe even on high-traffic roads.
7
Used gpx files and everything was right on.
7
I wasn't a big user of the rest stops; I only stopped twice, but when I did the volunteers were fantastic and the aid stations were well stocked.
Didn't use.7
Food was great and plentiful, especially considering the price.
I did not buy or want a t-shirt
Simply too many t-shirts so I didn't order one. Glad it was optional and not baked into the price. I didn't see the t-shirt so I can't comment on it.
Great job!

Scenic route, condition of roads terrific
7
Not possible to get lost unless you were absolutely not paying attention.
7
The best rest stops I've experienced
4
Did not have a need for those services, but I'm assuming from my experience of the rest of the ride that they would have been excellent.

Great to have music at the end. And to also have real bathrooms available!
6
Convenient, but this year the volunteers seemed to be confused about where and how people should park, and there was quite a delay getting in to park.
7Quick and easy!!77
Outstanding road markings. Easy to see, well placed
7
Beautiful, good food, friendly volunteers
5
Wish there would be more food choices - even just some Nutella and pbj like the rest stops. The store packaged cookies and chips aren't very exciting. But the sandwiches were great and much better than hot dogs! After hrs and hrs of riding, I'm ready to dig into some good food!

(I have friends that picnic in the parking lot after the ride because they aren't very keen on the food)

I can't think of anything to make it better. One of the best bike events I have been a part of. Such a lovely ride. Keeping the number of riders to 1,000 really helps make the ride better.
I do wish there was something we could do to stop so many cyclists from going through red lights. I saw it happen several times while cars were sitting at the light. It's so rude!
7
So easy and near the registration. Great volunteers. A little more warning leading to the turn into the park off 210 would be helpful.
7
The line moved quickly. I was in and out in two minutes. Great volunteers.
7
So beautiful! Loved the terrain and elevation, even Rose hill.
7
I've done a billion charity rides, gran fondos and events like this. I have never seen such excellent route marking on the road, especially with so many different routes. I barely looked at my cue sheet.
7
Very nice. I loved the breakfast at the first stop. Some bacon would have been awesome. :) Always plenty of food and drink. The Rita's was a great touch.
7
I did not need either but the mechanics were so nice and helpful.
6
I didn't stay long after riding, but the cookies were delicious. I didn't like my sandwich that much, though. The punch was yummy too.

I did the 70 this year, I will do the 100 next year, God willing.
7Well organized.7
Plenty of volunteers. Selection of energy gels, bars, and anti-rash creams were icing on the cake.
6
I like the shady routes. I'm all about melanoma awareness. I saw sun screen at some of the rest stops, very impressive.
7
I didn't really need a queue sheet. The markings were very good. Plenty of warnings before turns.
7
The people were fantastic and you had what the CWC did not have; SHADE!
7
They were visable, fortunately I did not need their services.
6
Ya know, I was really looking forward to a burger. Oh well. Beefy Tomato sandwiches are always good.
I did not buy or want a t-shirt
I heard some folks saying, "Now I have two 'Ride to end hunger T-shirts", so that dept needs improvementčÜ┤čĆ╝ I'm glad I didn't get one.

BTW I'm very disappointed in the CWC shirt too. Looks like they designed that in 2 minutes or less. I miss the old cotton long sleeve t-shirts. You know the under armor knock-off can build up a stench that cannot be cleaned. The minute the wearer starts sweating the old stench comes back. I heard this on Clark Howard and had to throw one away b/c I could not stand it myself. Pew!
I did the 70 this year, I will do the 100 next year, God willing.

I don't think that I could make any suggestions that would make the Indian Head 100 any better than it was. It was an outstanding day of riding. The event organizers, the Oxon Hill Bicycle and Trail Club, together with the volunteers and the resident of southern Maryland were wonderful hosts. I'll be back next year.

Did not attend the picnic, but I'm sure that it was outstanding like the rest of the event!!!

7
I enjoyed every mile of the century.
7
It was good, bigger markings or neon paint would make it easier to see on the road.
7
They where right on time and hit the spot.

Oak Grove and St. Ignatius ran out of food before their advertised closing times.

A big plus: ice was available for the riders to use - I am very grateful for that.
I did not need their services, so I can not rate them.

I look forward to the Indian Head 100 each year. I've already marked my calendar for next week. Fantastic ride and super well organized.

You all have the best rest stops. Everyone is so cheerful and encouraging. Also, the food is delicious!!!
4
Only reason I selected a 4 is that i didn't use the SAG support.
7I did not buy or want a t-shirt
I bought a t-shirt my first year. You may want to consider changing the design each year so we would be encouraged to buy a new shirt,

Also, I would be interested in buying a bike jersey if available.

I may look at some of the route on busy roads with no berms and try to see if there are alternates. Also, the warning signs were too close to the obsticals in a few places...
7Easy!7Super easy!4
I thought the route was ok, but I had a few bad experiences with drivers intentionally intimidating me and other riders and one vehicle towing a large boat which unintentionally nearly killed me
7
Clear course well marked too
3
They were ok, not much variety, I was at the back of the ride and a lot of the Options were gone. Lots of PB&Js which got old fast. Would be nice to see some local favorite foods
6Seemed fine6
It was good. I was introduced to pickle juice, which is a new one for me. I think the "Finish" could have been more clearly marked. Had to listen to a heated arguement between two riders who I think are part of your club. They knew each other pretty well as did their co-riders. Argument B was over bike path etiquette
I bought a t-shirt and have it
It's nice, but kind of boring. Map of the course or a little saying may have been nice

I only did the 26 mile for fun. I was with 2 others who did the 100. Next year I'm going to step up a level. Great event and really happy to have participated. Once again, the volunteers were amazing.
7775
Starting out I just followed other bikers. It turns out we were not on course. I even asked one of the traffic controllers if this was the right way and he said yes. After stopping and looking at the Ride GPS another biker and I corrected course. Just a minor hiccup.
7
Wow! I did not expect such a wonderful spread of food. The English muffin sandwich was heavenly. Thanks to all the wonderful volunteers.
7
Did not need, but I did see SAG vehicles so that was reassuring.
7
Plenty of food and extremely friendly volunteers.

I passed a number of riders wearing ear buds, which meant that I had to yell "on your left" over and over and over, and they still had no clue I was overtaking them. Please ban ear buds.

I really like the options of 47, 61, and 70 miles. You don't see 70 mile rides, its a great option.
7
No issues, close to registration and plenty of spaces. Nice location
7
Again, no problems. When events are run by experienced bike clubs they go considerably better than those put on by non-biking organizations.
7
I enjoy these roads, that's why I come. I should ride them more often.
7
Very good cue-sheets and road markings
7Excellent rest stops5
I saw a SAG vehicle once, but I wasn't really watching for them as I had no issues.

The road markings were great. It was the best century based upon the road markings that I have ridden. I did not even need the cue sheet.
5
Lot of energy, which was great. Had plenty of fluids which was great. Some more food/substance/bars etc would have improved it.

It would be really nice to teach the large groups of riders better bike handling skills. They don't ride in groups very well--they overtake poorly and pass dangerously close (unnecessarily). They often stop in large groups without getting off the road, putting other riders at risk to oncoming traffic. It's nice that so many people come out to ride, but it's not pleasant when you feel scared or overwhelmed by mobs of riders.
775
there was one terrible portion of road that was dangerous because there was gravel on a decline.
5
there was one terrible portion of road that was dangerous because it was not marked early enough to slow down because there was gravel on a decline. There were packs of riders riding too close and too fast due to the poor marking.
4
honestly, the first rest stop was the best. it was well stocked with good food. But it went downhill after that. All of the following rest stops were either out of food or had very limited options. Seems like someone miscalculated on the number of people doing the ride. It's hard to ride 100 miles when you don't have enough food. Luckily I had brought two cliff bars, which I resorted to eating.
I didn't use either so I cannot rate it.
5
Folks were friendly, and the food was OK. For non-meat eaters the only options was a mushy vegetable sandwich, which was disappointing. My husband was happy with his hotdog and we both enjoyed the watermelon and cookies.

This is my third ride, and second with the kind volunteers of St. James Episcopal Church. The service is great, but I found the sandwiches this year to be a little too heavy on the bread with the focacia. I certainly appreciate all the effort and time to make those sandwiches, and I imagine it is less cost than getting wraps from the deli.

It might be nice to have an option that doesn't include as much bread. Or, have some plastic utensils handy. I actually asked for a plastic fork and knife so I could enjoy the cold cuts without the bread but there weren't any.

Parking was a bit tight. I arrived at 6:45am and got a space, but it looked like there weren't many places left at that time.
6Very fast and efficient.6
The 100 mile route was good in terms of avoiding high traffic roads as much as possible and passing through shady areas (Labor Day is typically hot, neh?)
6
I was pleased that there was no confusion with road markings.
6
All the rest stops were well equipped for both the intake and outflow of fluids and food. The volunteers were all cheery and supportive. The sno-cone/ice at the final rest stop that turned ones tongue blue was a big hit.
I made no use of the mechanics and SAG support, so I cannot comment.

7
The route was great. The first 50 miles was very nice and pleasant. The latter 50 was much more challenging and tough but what don't kill you makes you stronger. Lol. I had no problem with the route.

That one long stretch of road (Route 224) with the freshly paved surface was awesome.
6
I used my Garmin device so I didn't really use the cue sheet. The road markings were clear and effective.
4
The rest stops were ok but the bathroom lines were long and they ran out of Italian Ice at the last stop. I was looking forward to getting it because I've always heard so much about it. It would have been a nice treat for the last stretch but that last rest stop was pretty much depleted when our group arrived.

There was a hill, at the bottom it was marked with orange writing- however it was too late. I nearly wrecked in that sand pit at the bottom. Left me shake for a few minutes. The issues was that the road was not safe for the speed I had coming down that hill.

7
No trouble parking, but to be fair, we had three-people carpooling
7Extremely easy.6
Quite pleasant, if not a bit monotonous from time to time on the scenery, but the trees were lovely all the same.
7
No trouble following the route!
4
In the first half, the intervals from 1 to 2, and 2 to 3 being over 20 miles back-to-back were a bit rough--particularly since rest stop 2 ran out of food relatively early! That meant doing the second long stretch without adequate fuel :(

From there, by comparison. the latter two seemed too close together and too close to the end. Perhaps better spacing, and more bread, would be advised!
I'm afraid I cannot comment. I didn't actually see the SAG on the road.
5
The homemade cookies were wonderful. My only disappointment was my hope for a cold beer at the end.

Food options were a little limited, and there appeared to be too many PB&J sandwiches.
The fresh egg sandwiches make this event something special. I love those.
5
Did not use sag,
I was not aware that there was any mechanical support. I needed some chain lube and was a little annoyed to see there was no mechanical support options at any of the rest stations. That is the only thing I would take points for.
7

The only suggestion is to allow more time at the end for the riders doing the 100 miles. I left at 7:15am and averaged 16mph - I'm not sure how long I was at the rest stops but I did get back around 3:00.
7
No problems with parking. I got there early, so I had a pretty good spot.
7
Registration was very fast - no lines.
7
Great route - even with the hills :)
7
No problems with the road markings, didn't miss any turns.
6
The rest stops were pretty good. I was disappointed that there was no Rita's ice left at the last rest stop. Also, at the last rest stop, one of the cyclist stuck his bare hands into the igloo to get ice. That turned many off from getting anything to drink.
7
I didn't have any mechanical issues or need for SAG, but glad they're there just in case.
5
Since I did the 100 miles, I didn't get a chance to relax when they started to shut down and clean up. So, there wasn't any hot dogs, or much left. The band was packing up. It would be good if there was more time for those riders that do the longer route. Or a "stash" put out a little later - possibly gauge it by the number of people leaving the last rest stop at by 2:30 or so.

Perfect weather 2 years in a row. Overall, this ride is the best of the entire year. I am always amazed by the dedication and hard work of all the volunteers. It is no small job to host a ride this large with so many rest stops to staff and a major picnic at the end. Many thanks to all the OH volunteers, cooks, sag drivers, parking attendants, and others too numerous to mention.
7
Always well organized and efficient.
7
Well-organized and efficient, low/no hassle check-in, and convenient restrooms, water, bike repair.
7
In most cases, the roads were exceptional, that is, wide shoulders on busy roads, and plenty of quiet rural low-traffic roads between the busy highways. Drivers in the area are always courteous and give a wide berth when passing.
7
I didn't have a cue sheet this year, but the blue arrows on the road were plentiful, well-placed, and easy to follow. apparently no cue sheets were printed for the 26-mile ride or they ran out before I got there. But it was not a problem. I'm one of those people who likes to have a "picture" of where I'm supposed to go in case I miss a turn and need to figure out how to get back on the route.
7
I arrived late at the Smallwood State Park rest stop, but I have been there before and it is always well-stocked (where else can you get a fresh cooked Egg McMuffin out in the wild??). and the volunteers are friendly and helpful. Hats off to all of them. Especially the cooks. 564 eggs in three hours??? (from one of the volunteers).
7
I didn't need any help, but the Sag Wagon passed me a couple of times and stopped to help a rider with a flat at least once on my short ride.
7
Best of any club in the area. Always well stocked with delicious choices. That's my yearly tomato sandwich and they were better than ever this year.

I already have an oversupply of T-shirts, so I generally skip that part.

Well planned out and marked, as well :-). I'm comparing this to another ride that I did about a month ago (frederick) where we followed the cue sheet but wound up lost and using google maps/gps. We still had to literally carry our bikes through a creek, & over construction barriers before we got back on track,- only about 12 miles off the route... That was totally different than the pleasureable experience of the IH 100!! OHBike - really good job w/route planning & marking. Rest stops were placed perfectly. I was truly impressed as I'm experienced enough to know that good planning brings about success, and both were evident.
76
Helpful people at rest stops - always nice, and appreciated :-).
7
Didn't need either but both were available at several locations that I saw. Always good to feel supported.
6
Thanks for having vegetarian options. Truly appreciated. I was disappointed w/no drink options but only because I was sick of Gatorade and water. Again, nice people to help the weary :-).
I ordered a t-shirt, but did not get it (please leave name and email in comments if you want it mailed to you)

6All good6
Just did the 70 this year but it was beautiful. Good hills but not killers
6
No problems, easy to see and follow. MARKED ENOUGH BEFORE TURNS TO SEE EASILY!!
5
Eh food was good but I would have liked some trail mix, nuts etc for protein. I'm not much of a bread eater.
Didn't need this year, thank goodness
5
Loved the watermelon. Would have liked some water bottles vs water in cups. Or maybe bigger cups , I'm all for not using plastic.

Really nice event. I would have preferred it be on Sunday. There were lots of trucks towing boats home on Monday after the long weekend and it was really nerve-wracking to have those swaying boat trailers passing so close on narrow roads.
775
A couple of the roads had bad surfaces - my neck was killing me after a few miles on them, which lasted the rest of the ride. Otherwise, it was a good route with lots of shade.
76
I really appreciate all the volunteers. The Oak Grove stop was after the the longest ride and had the least food. By the time I got to Christ Church I was starved (and I did have food with me). Great sandwiches and THANK YOU for options that included vegan food.
Fortunately, did not need.

Route is well marked - the snack food while ok for snacking, is not appropriate for adults undertaken a 100 mile bike ride. It's not about sugar and carbs - recommend you bring on a sports physiologist to brief you on what kind of food is burned during this type of activity. Hint: it's not carbs...
66661
It's not fair that folks riding 100 miles are forced to eat snack food after the 1st rest stop. Would be nice to offer turkey, ham, etc slices and bread for folks to have real food to sustain a 100 mile effort. Provide an option for real food or lower the registration price accordingly.
This event is overpriced and undernourished.

The sandwiches should have been served at the 3rd rest stop. Serve real grilled food at the "picnic"

Something that I do not see in this survey is safety. I think that tells me a little about what I saw. Protocol used by riders in this event was sub-par. When only two lanes (one each way), riders were riding in the middle or left side of the one lane when not passing, and when not necessary. They were not even slowing at stop signs. The ride, on average, was safe only because there was less traffic than other places. But it was still dangerous because riders were either uneducated or irresponsible. It would be my opinion, since you asked, that you do a better job making safety a priority and educated riders. Not once did I see anything that really emphasized this. Perhaps you had communicated something but if I cannot recall seeing it then it probably is not prominent enough. I am a very experienced rider so I do know how to follow proper riding protocol, but others were not. And I witnessed first hand what can happen with inexperienced riders. This was very early in the ride when riders were fresh and they were so amped that they were riding at high pace. A two-wide group traveling at a high pace was a approaching a stop sign. The front of the group went to stop and did not use hand signals or verbal warning. One of the riders about three deep was surprised by the "slowing" by the front, panicked, hit his front brake and slipped head over heals into the stop. The group splintered into both lanes and into the intersection. Many kept going, a few stopped, including me. The guy was shaken but up immediately. But that could have led to a complete disaster.

Still a well organized and executed ride. Not much change from last year.
776
The section from mile 80 to 88 is not as pretty as the rest, but the planners did a remarkable job in packing 100 miles into a small geographic area. The idea of having "bail outs" for people who are running behind is great.
6
The use of Ride with GPS was excellent, again. The warnings about the hairpin curves were good, but the most dangerous spot on the course--that sandy wash on bad road at the bottom of a steep hill--needed earlier warning. There was a sign just before the sand, but it didn't allow enough time to slow down.
6
The use of Gatoraid concentrate was an excellent idea. As the day wore on and got hotter, I began increasing the strength of my bottles just to take in more electrolytes. The first rest stop was almost too elaborate, and the last one was pretty minimal by the time the century riders got there.
I bought a t-shirt and have it

The routes were VERY well marked and easy to follow! You do a great job on this!!! It was very scenic and time on busy roads was minimized! Thanks!
7
Very well done. The road markings are easy to follow..and with fresh paint. Given all the markings in the road from other rides, you might consider using an "arrowhead" marker just to avoid any possible confusion.
6
All good. I do wish it were possible to "rack" your bike vs laying it on the ground. The food is delicious! I appreciate the veggie option for the egg sandwich, and I look forward to those tomato and mayonnaise sandwiches every year. The GatorAid concentrate alongside the water allows everyone the opportunity to make their mix as strong (or weak) as they like. Well done!
I can't comment on this other than to say I saw the SAG support!

Rest stops 1 (mile 17) & 2 (mile 24-26) were too close. And, because we opted to skip the 2nd stop, we missed the tomato sandwiches, one of the main reasons for riding this ride. I recommend that the tomato sandwiches go back to the 3rd rest stop (church).
