40 | East Midlands Development Agency (EMDA) | Skylink - Phase 2 | NEMA | A joint kickstart bid for 1.3m was developed by NEMA and key partners, which advocated a medium term strategy of providing 24 hr 7 days a week bus service all year round to the airport from both the three cities and the surrounding rural hinterland to enable employment opportunities to be taken up and develop better links to regional destinations to support inbound tourism and business use. The bid, though basic, was successful and secured £701,000 to progress the project. The shortfall, however, meant that part of the proposal could not be delivered and this was likely to be detrimental to the overall integrity and success of the project. The level of funding achieved through Kickstart bid was insufficient to provide a full, high quality service from all three cities, with enhanced quality vehicles and associated marketing initiatives. Unless a full funding package could be achieved, the project would only be able to reach part of its target market and would not be able to achieve its full potential as a regenerative tool for the region. The partnership requested funding from EMDA to plug the shortfall, which would ensure the viability and sustainability of this project, which is of strategic importance to the whole region. | £630,000.00
41 | East Midlands Development Agency (EMDA) | Skylink - Phase 3 | NEMA | In May 2007 Derby City Council within a wider partnership put forward a bid to EMDA seeking to enhance the Skylink network of bus services which provide links between NEMA and Nottingham, Leicester and Derby. More specifically, the bid sought to take the next step towards completing the 'Skylink jigsaw', by enhancing the Derby/Loughborough airline shuttle and rebranding it as the Derby/Loughborough Skylink, complete with new vehicles and a livery that is consistent with the existing and highly successful Nottingham and Leicester Skylinks. | £720,000.00
