Has a catchy lede. Between 1,200 to 1,500 words.	Student devotes sufficient time and effort to the writing process (prewriting, drafting, reviewing, and editing). Works and gets the job done. Story is factual, but lacks interest. Lede is good but not great. Between 900 to 1,200 words.	Student devotes some time and effort to the writing process but was not very thorough. 14	Conventions and AP Style	There are no spelling or punctuation errors in the final draft. Sources and places mentioned in the story are spelled correctly and consistently throughout.	There is one spelling or punctuation error in the final draft.	There are 2-3 spelling and punctuation errors in the final draft; a source name is spelled wrong.	The final draft has more than 3 spelling and punctuation errors. Sources names are spelled wrong.
15	Accuracy and Nut Graf	All facts presented in the story are accurate. Nut graf is found a quarter of the way into the story, and serves as the backbone of the story.	Almost all facts presented in the story are accurate. May need clarification. Nut graf is halfway into the story, and relates to the story.	Most facts presented in the story are accurate (at least 70%). A few facts may be incorrect. Nut graf is well past the halfway mark of the story, and does not add to the story. 16	Sources	Sources are named and clearly identified in text. Each source has at least three direct quotes.	Sources are named and identified. Each source has at least two direct quote.
