Jennifer Smith

Please note -- special rates apply to reading tutoring. $40/50 minutes session.
Jennifer (Jen) Smith is a credentialed teacher with 15 years experience. In California, she taught grades K-8. Jen is now a Dyslexia and Reading specialist. She enjoys having the opportunity working with kids one-on-one and is inspired to help children with dyslexia after seeing how much her niece was helped by one-on-one dyslexia tutoring. Jennifer is a certified Barton Reading and Spelling specialist. Barton is a multisensory, systematic program designed for children (of all ages) with dyslexia with a normal range of intelligence and normal hearing. The nerve pathways in the language processing center of dylexic's brains make them insensitive to the smallest unit of sound in our language-the phoneme. (A phoneme might be represented by 1, 2 or 3 letters, but it is a single sound.) People with Dyslexia don’t have trouble with big chunks of sound like words or syllables, but within a syllable they have enormous difficulty isolating each and every sound. Jennifer looks forward to making reading progress with you!MathScienceLanguage ArtsSocial StudiesLife SkillsTest Prep (i.e. SAT)Specialized Reading TrainingOther
