Jenny ForresterOregon-certified teacher, Jenny Forrester, is an award-winning author. She is published by Putnam in the Listen to Your Mother Anthology and in other print and online publications including Indiana Review and Columbia Journal. Her memoir Narrow River, Wide Sky was published by Hawthorne Books in May, 2017. She taught at Village Home for several years and has enjoyed learning as much as teaching. Her favorite subjects are language and literature. Heather MooreHeather Moore is a life-long learner and freelance teacher. Sarah MinerSarah has been homeschooling her three children for 15 years. In addition to serving on the board of directors and facilitating gardening and writing activities at Village Home, she is a writer and life coach. She learned calculus, Japanese, Arabic, Hebrew, and Greek at age 10 before taking charge of her educational path, which included pre-med anatomy (cadaver) classes in college, French, chaos theory, and child development. Rosalyn Newhouse Rosalyn has taught and volunteered at Village Home since 2003, and has been involved with homeschooling and non-traditional education since the early 1980s. She works directly to consult the learner’s understanding and native ability with a subject, uncovering and remedying any difficulties with the subject matter and associated concepts, then moving forward in ways that engage the learner’s interests and excitement. Each child has different skills, talents, and passions, and Rosalyn works with those to ensure the learner’s full participation and success. Math fundamentals and language arts are areas of particular interest. Rosalyn’s teaching experience at Village Home includes math fundamentals, geography, history, reading skills, and language arts. She has coordinated Village Home’s annual Spelling Bee that has sent champions to the National Spelling Bee seven times. Shira Newman Shira has her undergraduate degree in general mathematics, and her master's degree in Applied Mathematics. While in college, Shira tutored undergraduate students, and in graduate school, Shira taught pre-calculus and business calculus to undergraduate students. After graduate school, Shira worked in various industries as a software engineer and as a data and statistical analyst. Currently, Shira is overseeing her son's homeschooling journey, and aiding him in his math studies. Christie Ranslow is a Literacy (reading, writing, spelling) teacher and Certified Reading Specialist who has worked with dyslexic students since 1999. She taught for 23 years in public and private K-6 classrooms and was also a homeschooling Mom for 4 years. Christie has also been a Teacher and Student Literacy coach for 4 years and also supervised George Fox University Students with their Reading Practicum. She has her Bachelors of Science from UT El Paso and her MEd (Curriculum & Instruction) from George Fox University. Suzy Taylor Parents often aren't sure exactly what type of help their child needs; Suzy is able to evaluate a child's skills and learning challenges. Parents then have a much better idea of what type of help their child needs. Suzy has been teaching and tutoring students ages 10 & up, including college, over several decades in subjects including reading, writing, mathematics, history, psychology, speech, debate, journalism, computer literacy, thesis preparation, and more. She especially enjoys helping children who have challenges in writing. Each child has talents and interests that help motivate writing activities and thus improve the child's skills. Suzy has a BA in Ed with minor in psych of learning & development, plus a Master's equivalency. Melanie Gurley Melanie has taught, coached, and facilitated such subjects and activities as French language and culture, soccer, fitness conditioning, outdoor expeditions, winter recreation, emergency snow-shelter building, yoga, art, spirituality, and environmental education. She received her Master of Arts in Contemplative Education at Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado; building on her Liberal Arts foundation that earned her a Bachelor of Arts at The Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington. She now resides in Portland, OR, where she has been busy with such efforts as: coaching High School girls’ soccer, co-leading expeditionary learning adventures, teaching in dynamic after-school enrichment programs, crafting, and mothering her blossoming baby boy.
