6/25/2018Farhad Khan and his family in Middlebury, VT and own One Dollar Market. This is how he was treated recently in his own store. Could we send him some love?

From Farhad's Facebook Post:
"A lady walks in my store the other day. I have seen her often, never had a chance to talk to her. This time she was a bit talkative, we talked about weather and stuff. She saw this basket of compact mirrors on the counter. Reaches for one, opens it and WHAM!
Shoves it in my face and,
"wanna see a Monkey?"
I FROZE!

Brought back a painful memory of when some had emptied a can of white spray paint in my face back in New York city. Almost 27 years ago.
I must have forgotten about that incident, Middlebury folks have always been super nice to me and my family. Middlebury had adopted me, in a way. Then, this rude awakening.

6/19/2018Ripping children from their families is deeply unethical, something associated with slave owners and Nazis. While we wait for our congress to take some action to stop these atrocities, we want to let border patrol agents know we are watching, that they have a choice, and that they can stop this by refusing to participate. Our action will also let Congress know that citizens are horrified by what our government is doing.
Our Plan: In addition to donating funds and calling our representatives, we plan to bombard the Border Patrol Offices along the Mexican border with postcards appealing directly to border patrol agents' humanity. We will use the internet to amplify our voices by photo documenting and sharing our postcards on our Facebook feeds, Twitter and Instagram. Use the Hashtags #FamiliesBelongTogether #TheWholeWorldIsWatching #USBorderPatrol
How: On your own or with friends and family create and send personalized postcards to the Border Patrol Offices along the Mexican border. These messages CANNOT be hateful. We may be angry, but our anger will not be effective; it will alienate us from the agents. Instead they must be appeals to the agents as human beings.

Message Ideas:
- You can stop this.
- You have a choice.
- No one can make you take a child from their family.
- You are brave. You are kind. You are compassionate. Please don't take children away from their families. It goes against everything you believe in.
- this must go against your values
- this must be hard, don't let this harden your heart
- treat others as you would wish your family to be treated

4/24/2018"Dad’s 99th birthday is coming up on May 17 (born 1919). Not knowing how many more birthdays we’ll be able to celebrate with him, it would be the most wonderful gift if you would purchase a picture post card of your town, state, or some attraction, write a one or two-sentence birthday greeting to him, maybe a sentence about who you are, and mail it to him.... Mail it to: Rev. Robert L. McIntyre (he goes by Bob), 2501 Ravine Drive, Nashville TN 37217."https://www.facebook.com/dmcintyre/posts/10160194684645177

3/12/2018From Jenny Hodgkins and the Local Love Brigade in Texas...

"Yesterday an Austin teenager was killed when he picked up a package left on his porch. He was a smart, talented bassist, played in a couple of music ensembles that my daughter has been involved with. It's just heartbreaking. The Austin Chamber Music Center has agreed to receive mail for the family. Please send love, folks. Please."

2/19/2018Chicago Blackhawks Fans Bounced For Racist Taunts Aimed At Capitals' Devante Smith-Pelly. Washington Capitals forward Devante Smith-Pelly was in the penalty box after a third period fight with a Blackhawks defenseman on Saturday night in Chicago when four Blackhawks fans started taunting him in unison.
"Basketball, basketball, basketball," they chanted.
"It's pretty obvious what that means," Smith-Pelly said on Sunday. "It's not a secret." The nonsecret racial stereotype at play here is that basketball is a "black" sport and hockey is for white people.
