Inner Strength The Inner Strength Foundation in Philadelphia teaches mindfulness and systems thinking in High Schools. We run an in-school 12-week program with a strong academic component as well as practice component. I've been a practitioner for 40 years (I started in High School, went to Asia in the early 80s, did the 3 month retreat at IMS in 1985 and have been working with and teaching contemplative tools since.) The populations Inner Strength works with have experienced a high incidence of exposure to traumatic events and while the classroom isn't a place to address these issues, I make sure our instructors are well trained in trauma sensitive education (Philly has an active ACEs org and I present at the Philadelphia Trauma Conference each year) and racial literacy (Using the work of Howard Stevenson (UPenn) and his new org Lion's Story to be aware of one's own privilege, bias, and triggers, support students, provide choice, shift the exercises if trauma shows etc. https://www.innerstrengthfoundation.net/

Frederick Meditation CenterMon - Fri Noon-1pm ESTThese are intense times. Our growing anxiety maybe amplified by the uncertainty of not knowing when the COVID-19 pandemic will be over. Yet this is exactly why we practice. As more and more of us work from home during this pandemic, I’d like to offer this daily meditation class as a refuge of calm. Coming together via Zoom is one way to stay connected, and deepen our practice. We meditate so we can be aware what is here and be present with our experience. We remember the timeless truths of the teachings by bringing compassion and presence to our own experience. We start to create islands of calm and sanity in our world.https://frederickmeditation.com/class/dailymiddayclass/

Frederick Meditation CenterFri 7-8:15pm ESTThe intention of this group is to explore the Buddhist Heart Practices, also called the Four Immeasurables or the Brahma-viharas. These mindfulness practices of loving-kindness, compassion, appreciative joy, and equanimity represent the most beautiful and hopeful aspects of our human nature by transforming the turbulent heart into a calm refuge of focused awareness. They protect the mind from falling into habitual patterns of reactivity and help keep us in balance. They awaken powerful healing energies, which brighten and lift the heart and mind to increasing levels of clarity. As a result, these boundless heart qualities can be truly centering and transformative.https://frederickmeditation.com/class/friday-evening-heart-practices-meditation/
