Dragon Quest Monsters Joker 3 Skill Information Workbook

This workbook is skill related documentation for that I recorded for Dragon Quest Monsters 3 Joker.
One of my favorite parts of any DQM game is charting my course through the game. I had to sail blindly through most
of this playthrough due to the lack of available documentation. Late in the game I decided to start cateloging what
I knew about the skill system (which turns out wasn't much at the point). My little list gradually expanded into something much
bigger and I thought it was worthy of sharing even though it's incomplete. I hope that someone digging for
help finds it and appreciates it the way I would have when I first started playing.
5
6
Red skills can't be obtained in early versions of the English patch due to the Wizard record being
unobtainable. PATCH NOTES for version 1.0.2 indicate this might have been fixed.
7
8
Orange abilities are ones that I haven't confirmed the English names for.

Citra Emulator DQMJ3 Regression
11
An overhaul of the core timing system was made to the Citra emulator in May of 2020. This caused a big
performance regression in Dragon Quest Monsters 3 Joker. As of November 2020 the game is barely playable
as a consequence.
The NIGHTLY 1543 release is the last one before the regression. Use this release to play the game until a fix is made.

13
Obtaining Advanced Skills
14
Advanced skills can be obtained while breeding if the ingredient skills are present and their skill points
are maxed out. Either parent can possess the ingredient skills.

16
Scout-Q Missions
17
Fulfilling Nochorin's Scout-Q missions (behind the counter in Central Building) provides unique rewards.
THIS guide provides information on how to complete the Scout-Q missions but it's in Japanese.
18
Questions 2, 4, 6, and 16 reward Reactor upgrades (the DBZ scouter thing you wear)
19
Questions 8, 11, 14, and 15 reward skill books
20
Question 12 rewards a Gold Card that halves the cost of bought items
21
22
Creating Skill Books
23
You receive a skill book if a skill with at least 50 SP is discarded during the breeding process.
For example, if you abandon Frizz(50) after you make Frizz+, Frizz will become a skill book.
24
25
Class Skill Records
26
Class skills are bought from the book vendor but are inaccessible until you find the records located
in stealth boxes throughout the game. The EX and SP class records are found ealier in the game but
the base class and class+ records usually require flying or diving to reach.
27
A guide to finding class records can be found HERE but it's in Japanese

Elemental Skills Double and Triple Coverage
44
There are 10 elemental attack types including Frizz, Sizz, Woosh, etc. Sometimes they can be combined
into double coverage skills like Fizz & Zap. Other times they can combine into triple coverage skills like Wake & Crack
See the Skill Combinations worksheet for more details.

SP and EX Distinction
59
DQMJ3 is inconsistent with what SP and EX mean on skill names. Stat boost skills, like Attack Boost or HP Boost,
simply get stronger with every upgrade. Attack Boost < Attack Boost+ < Attack Boost SP < Attack Boost EX
60
SP and EX mean different things when applied to single or triple elemental skills. SP is the most powerful caster version.
EX is the most powerful physical version. Frizz < Frizz+; Frizz SP is for casters; Frizz EX is for physical attackers.
61
Different still are double elemental skills. The + version is the caster one and the SP version is the physical one.
