LONG LAKE N. FORK CAMPBELL CREEK, SOME WILL GO WITH BRUCE TALBOT TO TIKISHLA PEAK FROM THE LONG LAKE TRAIL WHICH WOULD BE AN ELEVATION GAINWED6/21/20179:00 AMMeet at Basher Rd. Trailhead (the top of Campbell Airstrip Rd). This is a long moderate hike, about 6 miles to get to or overlook the lake (RT about 12 miles w/2200' elev gain, figure 7 hours). Can turn back at any point and still see the beautiful valley on back side of Wolverine. The valley is quite beautiful and anywhere could be a nice turnaround place. There is no definitive, continuous trail - we plan on placing flagging tape and the last person can retrieve it. Once we are in the valley, for those who want to ascend 3000 feet up from the north fork valley, Bruce Talbot has offered to lead a group up Tikishla - this is not a technical climb but does involve some rock scrambling. It is a 3000' elev gain from the valley, so plan on a long day). Limited parking so car pool as much as possible. The hike will be weather dependent as it would not be fun with winds or rain.

SUMMIT CREEK: 2 OPTIONSWED7/19/20178:00 AM For hikers who will be joining the hike from Anchorage, meet at Carrs Huffman at 8:00 am. The other hikers who are staying at Manitoba Cabin or camping the night before will plan on meeting at the Trailhead at 10:00am. Please RSVP Merri by Monday, July 17 if you are driving from Anchorage, as she will be with the Manitoba group. We will have someone check names in Anchorage. The Summit Creek Trailhead is just past Milepost 44. Look for a U shaped gravel parking lot off the highway on the right side, just south of Summit Lake. The trailhead is only visible by entering the gravel parking lot. We will plan on hiking to the saddle, overlooking the Pass. There are beautiful views along the entire hike. It is not difficult. The first pass is about 2 hours from the start and 1200 feet elevation gain. A longer option to overlook the Resurrection trail is 8.4 miles to the Pass, approximately 16.8 round trip. Hikers can do any portion of the hike, as we go up and back the same trail, just need to pre plan with your car group if you would like to modify the hike.Merri Rowe rowegunnill@gci.net 3503467

LOST LAKE (Seward)MON7/24/20177:45 AMMeet at Carrs Huffman at 7:45 to be ready to depart by 8am - Row F. From there we can carpool but everyone needs to go to the end of the hike first. From there decide which cars we will take to the beginning but will need 2-3 cars left at the end.
Hike is 15 miles, stopping at Lost Lake for lunch. Some may want to go into Seward for dinner. This hike is great but only if weather is fine. Will keep an eye on weather when it gets closer. Think 🌞 sunshine. Must confirm participation with hike contact, Lynn King to receive timely updates.

Ridge Walk/Eagle RiverTHURS7/27/20179:00 AMHike starts at the South Fork Eagle River Trail Head (for Valley hikers, we plan to start hiking at 9:50 am). After about two miles from Trail Head a narrow path starts up toward the ridge. It is a gradual climb but intensifies considerably along the way up. It is an out and back with elevation gain of about 2100 feet and terrain varies from tall grass at the beginning to tundra toward the ridge and on the ridge. Plan on 4-5 hours minimum, some may go longer (for purposes of car pooling, know whether you prefer longer or shorter and choose the appropriate car). It is a fun and scenic ridge walk with breathtaking views of South Fork Eagle River Valley, Eagle and Symphony Lakes and the surrounding spectacular mountains and glaciers behind the lakes - weather is expected to be good but do come prepared with appropriate gear and lunch.

IDITAROD TRAIL FROM TURNAGAIN PASS Mi 68.5 MON8/28/20178:30 AM8:30am Carrs Huffman Row F. We will depart promptly.

The upper, southern terminus of the Historic Iditarod Trail in Turnagain Pass begins at the Mile 68.5 rest area on the east side of the Seward Highway, just over the crest of the pass. Begin off the backside of the parking lot past the picnic tables. In 200’ the Iditarod trail swings up and left (north) off the main trail. It quickly broadens into a superb trail.

This will be an out-and-back hike of 4 miles or to the overlook above the canyon. Easy trail, well maintained with little elevation. Very scenic and picturesque with abundant Alaska blueberries, almost black in color, and bog blueberries, blue. They are both the shrubby kind. Last year there was an abundance of them. Hope this year is the same, so bring your containers for picking.

JUNEAU FALLS (near Cooper Landing)TBDTBD8:00 AMCarrs Huffman, Row F carpool the 2 hour drive to the Resurrection trailhead at mile 53.1 of the Sterling highway. Parking lot is over the Kenai river bridge up a short gravel road.

We hike up the Resurrection trail which is a gentle up hill walk with a few steep spots through a forest of gold (aspens) if I have chosen the time correctly to mix with spruce up nearer the falls. Things to bring are the normal stuff: water, lunch, camera, extra clothes (for all seasons), and bear spray (if you have it). We should be on the trail for 4 to 5 hours and driving for about 4 hours, so this will take 8 to 10 hours.
