Bus Rapid Transit Infrastructure in Europe and the Caucasus
2
This spreadsheet aims to track bus rapid transit infrastructure in European cities as part of a Metro Route Atlas screening process.
3
European busways are typically dancing along the line when it comes to the BRT Standard, often lacking off-board fare payment, using intersection priority instead of banning turns, and either not being branded or being branded as services rather than infrastructure.
4
Not all corridors can be definitively stated to be BRT on the Metro Route Atlas and are being tracked here for the time being.
5
Translohr lines are not included, while TVR lines are included since they are legally buses
6
Dedicated ROW needs to be at least (or very close to) 1 km long to be included here, because otherwise this list will just be a pile of tiny segments of bus priority.
7
Data sources include BRTData.org and the ITDP, as well as general information taken from other website and Google Maps

9
Notes on fields
10
System NameName of the BRT System
11
Corridor Name
Name of the physical corridor, if any
12
Classification
ITDP Gold/Silver/Bronze/Basic if provided; BRTData Gold/Silver/Bronze/Basic/BRT as fallback if BRTData.org provides a field other than Not BRT; MRA BRT as secondary fallback
13
BRT-Lite if Dedicated ROW + Alignment only met. BRT-Lite (< 3 km) if BRT-Lite or better but under 3 km
14
Not BRT if lacking contiguous two-way Dedicated ROW
15
We will leave this field blank if neither the ITDP/BRTData has a score and if it is not possible to determine if the route is BRT or BRT-Lite without further study by the MRA.
16
Dedicated ROW
Grade Separated/Physically Separated (includes Separate ROW; a curb separation/raised guideway is sufficient)/Pavement Color (includes concrete guideway adjacent to asphalt general purpose lanes)/Painted Line/None
17
Alignment
Separate ROW/Median/Boulevard (for alignment to inner or outer portions)/Curbside/Virtual (single lane that switches every few blocks)/Mixed Traffic
18
Off-Board Fares
Note: All door boarding is a requirement. Any form of onboard fare payment is disqualified
19
Signal Priority
Both Fixed and Dynamic count. Grade Separated also a possibility
20
Level Boarding
For Europe, this means 100% Low Floor fully accessible boarding. Must have either maximum 4 cm vertical gap or horizontal alignment at stations via kassel curb/guidance
21
Primary Services
Services that come frequently all day, every day and run most of or the entirety of the busway
22
Main Street Utilized
Only busway portions (Separate ROW, Median, Separated Curbside) are documented - mixed traffic sections are omitted. Discontinuous sections have a ; between them while continuous sections have a - between them. Not all streets listed
23
24
For Dedicated ROW and Alignment, commas refer to features on different sections of the ROW. Higher quality overrides other features (higher quality on left).
25
Mixed Traffic will only be explicitly stated if for corridors where the amount of BRT infrastructure is minimal, for the sole purpose of providing contrast (most systems have some amount of mixed traffic regardless)
