As a twelve-year resident of Asheville, I have worked throughout the city in fields ranging from manufacturing to retail to education, including for local institutions such as UNC-Asheville and AB Tech Community College. These experiences would be helpful to the mission and vision of the Asheville Downtown Improvement District. During my time at UNC-Asheville, I supported the offices of Multicultural Affairs, International Student Services, and the Student Union, which has given me insight into the needs and interests of college-aged adults, a key group of Asheville's residents, as well as the diversity of that group. I continued to work with a different subset of college students at AB Tech but, perhaps more importantly, I became active in the campus's Staff Association, serving as a Representative, Secretary/Treasurer, and eventually President. During this time, I was able to contribute to overall progress of campus through initiatives such as a professional development grant for staff members and an initiative that led to the clearing of past due debts for Black students, which enabled many to return to finish their education. I was also an adjunct English instructor for both AB Tech and Montreat College after earning my MA in English at Western Carolina University. Currently, I am a stay at home parent to three children, as well as a part time rideshare driver and my perspective would be useful to ADID's work as it tries to meet the needs of all Asheville residents, including families and children. Finally, as a resident of The Block in downtown Asheville and an active member of my apartment complex, Eagle Market Place, I am uniquely positioned to represent the interests of my neighbors and community. I would love to bring these qualifications and experiences to the work of ADID in the coming months and years.

My best contribution would be to apply my experiences working and living in Asheville, including my relationships in the community, to the work of the Asheville Downtown Improvement District. Raising a family in downtown Asheville and working extensively in higher education gives me particular insight into the needs of young people and working families trying to start a life in our city.

If given the honor of serving on ADID's Board of Directors, my primary goal would be to work toward creating a more just and equitable Asheville. In particular, as a resident of The Block, I am especially conscious of the historical injustice done to the past Black residents of my neighborhood by the City of Asheville. ADID has an opportunity and a responsibility to right the wrongs of urban renewal to every extent possible.

As a composition teacher in local colleges, I routinely engaged my students in difficult conversations and regularly received overwhelmingly positive feedback on my ability to listen, engage, and respond to diverse perspectives. I was able to enhance this skill through my role as Staff Association President for AB Tech, where I heard from a much broader group of people with even more varying opinions about the state of campus as well as the community. Higher education is a very politicized environment often marked by contentious dialogue and this aspect of my background has given me the ability to consider the viewpoints of others with calmness and equanimity.

Being an urban planner, my profession exposes to me to a lot of different perspectives on how people envision their city. Within my current job, I have worked with several local governments who bring unique perspectives and priorities to the table and finding the best solution is often a complex task. My work has taught me to maintain an open and inclusive approach when working on urban issues and I have come to understand that a city’s success depends on finding a balance through collective input and respectful collaboration amongst various stakeholders. If appointed to the ADID board, I will ensure that all voices are heard and valued in our decision-making process.

I was the Marketing Chair for the 2018 Summer of Glass, a three-month citywide event that partnered with Explore Asheville, the Biltmore, and nearly 100 local glass artists to promote the art of glass making in WNC. While in my former role at the Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce, I worked with Zach Wallace in the BID advocacy efforts and organized/participated in trips to visit BIDs in Lexington, KY and Charleston, SC to see these districts in action and learn what may/may not work for Asheville. Throughout my time at ArtsAVL and, formerly, at the Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce, I have spent a great deal of time organizing, participating in, and serving on a wide variety of committees and boards that support our community. I’ve built strong community relationships over the years, and I represent a major entity on the south slope that could benefit the downtown rejuvenation we are all working to achieve. I participate in every BOSS meeting, so that I’m informed.

I have firsthand experience dealing with the issues impacting downtown. I have held board seats with other organizations, and I am familiar with how a board should function. Ultimately, my biggest asset is I care about our downtown and the people who live and work here.

Assuring that the BID operators hit the grow running. That the operators of good stewards and representative of our community. That the BID focuses on what they are tasked to do. Not more and not less.

My expertise would be best served in making sure the district grows efficiently, safely and sustainably. With my background in civil engineering and land development, I bring expertise in infrastructure planning and design, regulatory code compliance and accessibility, sustainability and resilience. I am no stranger to permitting and can help guide processes as needed.

A desired achievement for serving on the board would be to help better infrastructure and development needs for downtown. Being used by the board for guidance on sustainable building development initiatives, working to better transportation and connectivity, helping to better improve disaster preparedness through flood control, and stormwater management.

As a project manager for multi-million dollar projects throughout the state, my ability to listen and adapt to varying perspectives is crucial for the delivery of a project. I am an active listener who coordinates with city officials, developers, public engagement and project stakeholders, contractors and other design professionals on all projects. I can decipher complex or technical language and adapt it to those who may not be familiar with the process. As a project manager I am adaptable and comfortable with collaboration to achieve a desired outcome.

I bought Paul Taylor sandals on Wall St in 2011 and have continued to run that business. We bought the wall st space in 2023.

I have historical knowledge of downtown and its changing face of businesses. I am downtown five days a week, interacting with my business customers and other people who live and work downtown. I try to view things through others' eyes so I don't have a biased opinion and am open to new ideas about making progress on projects and improvements.

I would like to see this new venture off to a successful start. I want to make sure we are spending money on the things that will improve our downtown space and make it even more inviting for locals and tourists alike. I would like to be able to develop a dialog with the city and get more value-added services that would support the bid goals for downtown.

I work collaboratively with my team at our leather shop. Sometimes, I start a project and pass it to one of my team members to finish. Other times, we all look at the project and discuss how we would do it and find the best path forward to get the best result. In my relationship, I have found after being married for 20 years that listening and collaboration are very important. I have completed anti-bias workshops that have sharpened my active listening skills, allowing me to engage in meaningful and constructive conversations. I approach discussions with an open mind, focusing on analyzing and clarifying perspectives rather than making assumptions or imposing personal biases. I take careful notes, ask thoughtful questions, and avoid judgmental or projective statements, ensuring that all voices are heard and respected. My ability to synthesize different viewpoints helps me facilitate balanced decision-making that serves the greater good.

Community Engagement, Public Relations, and Public Affairs. We work with clients in many industries including government, travel and tourism, education, healthcare and more.

I represent the McKibbon organization which is the largest single financial contributor to the BID. Our organization owns 4 operating hotels, 4 independent restaurants, 1 workforce apartment building, 4 condo units, and several surface parking lots all located within the BID boundaries. We currently serve as landlord for 4 locally owned and operated businesses located within the BID. I served on the BID steering committee and actively promoted and supported it's creation. I was involved withe the creation of a BID in Chattanooga, TN. I presently sit on the Asheville Buncombe County Hotel association board.

As a board member I will advocate for BID programs and initiatives that benefit all stakeholders within the BID in an economical fashion. My approach will be pragmatic and results focused.

The goal of the BID is simple. A CLEAN & SAFE downtown. The data does not lie. It was abundantly clear from stakeholder input that a clean & safe downtown was by far and away the number one priority of any BID. My goal in joining the board is to execute on this priority with the largest impact possible based on the funds available.

I will readily admit that I do not have all the answers. I welcome feedback from all stakeholders on strategies and approaches to help solve the task at hand.

I am an Asheville native. I have watched our city change and grow through my life and I care deeply about the people and the success of our little mountain town. I am a registered nurse and I have worked at Mission Hospital for 18 years. I am currently the COO for Sweeten Creek Mental Health and Wellness Center and I also serving as the board chair for the Asheville-Buncombe CoC.

As the CoC representative I will bring the voice of the CoC board and membership to this group. I also bring a unique lense as a business leader in the city and a deep understanding and appreciation for those with mental health issues.

Ensure the voice of the CoC is at the table and be able to bring back/summarize the work of the ADID board for the CoC.

I feel that each individual brings a unique perspective and should be valued for that. I enjoy active listening and always try to use empathy and understanding as I process other points of view. Every group or individual has a unique set of needs and thoughts based on a life of experiences that are their own, it is the work of the board to consider all of these and find the best solution possible given all the factors.

As Commercial Real Estate Operations Manager and a trained Paralegal, I possess a deep understanding of both legal frameworks and administrative processes. My ability to interpret complex legal documents, understand regulatory compliance, and navigate legal challenges will help to ensure the Board operates in full adherence to laws and best practices. My administrative expertise helps ensure efficient internal processes, clear communication, and organization-wide accountability. Additionally, in my role as an Integrator, I’ve worked to align people, processes, and strategies to ensure smooth operations and effective execution. I understand how to break down complex goals into actionable steps, keeping all stakeholders focused on the broader vision while ensuring that daily operations are running efficiently. This skill is invaluable on a Board, as it ensures strategy and execution are aligned for maximum impact.

My best contribution to the Board of Directors are my legal acumen, operational expertise, strategic insight, and communication skills which will allow me to bring a well-rounded and thoughtful approach to the Board. My contributions will ensure that the organization is not only compliant and efficient but also able to grow sustainably and navigate challenges effectively. I will be an asset in shaping decisions that lead to long-term success, while maintaining a healthy, collaborative Board dynamic.

As a resident of Buncombe County and a stakeholder in our downtown district, having worked and played here for the past 4 years, I’ve seen firsthand the challenges our community faces, from economic revitalization to affordable housing, and public safety. In my role at Dewey Property Advisors, I support the facilitation of property acquisitions, lease negotiations, and maintain positive relationships with tenants and stakeholders. I work closely with a vertically integrated team to drive improvements and initiatives that support the growth and development of our downtown district. Connecting with local businesses, residents, and civic leaders, positions me to be a bridge between the downtown area's needs and potential solutions. As an Asheville native, I'm fortunate to know and love many of the downtown merchants and residents who will benefit from the BID. My best contribution will be the connections and collaboration that I'll foster among stakeholders and the BID board and ambassadors.

My primary focuses will be on ensuring that our downtown area is both safe and clean. A safe environment encourages foot traffic, which is vital for local businesses. Cleanliness reflects the care we have for our community and enhances the overall experience for residents and visitors alike. To achieve this, I plan to advocate for the bid to fulfill its mission. Success will be measured in more locals visiting downtown.

My father, David Brown, has been a property investor in Downtown Asheville since the seventies. Over the years my family has acquired over 14 properties in the CBD and more in surrounding areas. I came back to Asheville in 2012 and have been working with my father ever since. In 2019 I started a property management firm, DMG / Property Management, in order to provide our services to third parties. In January I created a committee consisting of 4 individuals to represent the lower North Lexington area. We intend on working with business owners in this area to revitalize the street and create a sense of community between merchant owners and property owners.

I am downtown everyday and have first hand experience on what issues we are facing. I am in constant contact with my tenants and know the difficulties they have faced with COVID and now Helene. On lower North Lexington and Walnut alone we have 41 tenants that are a mix of retail, office and residential. I feel that I can be a great representative for them and this area.

I would like to be a representative for lower North Lexington Avenue. We have a vested interest to make sure that this area thrives. After experiencing Helene and seeing the devastation that it has caused to all areas of Asheville, I feel that now is the time to get involved and become part of what is going to make Asheville great again and maybe better. On this board I would like to have a voice to help push ideas that my tenants and I feel is a good direction for the community.

As a property owner and business owner I am bombarded with tenant requests or complaints. I have to navigate carefully when dealing with some of these issues. I manage a group of 5 employees and work with different personalities daily. Working with other owners in managing their properties sometimes I have to put my opinion aside and realize that ultimately this is their property and they make the final decision.

I would like to see greater cohesion among businesses and city government to bring the city out of the slump caused by Helene, and move Asheville forward as a destination vacation for everyone. I feel like alot of the tourism we see now is those who stop here for a day while on the way to their vacation destination.

I own a coffee shop on Wall St. with my spouse, and am part owner of a cocktail bar on Market St. in downtown Asheville. I have worked in downtown going on 15 years now and have a deep understanding of how downtown has grown and changed over the years. In August of 2024 I started working at Homeward Bound as a Housing Specialist because I feel so passionately about supporting our unhoused community members. With both of these experiences I have a lot of insight and interest in present and future development of downtown Asheville.

I believe that my experience and perspective would be the best contribution I have to offer the board. I am a queer non-binary business owner in my early 30's, which I often find to be in the minority of individuals included in business conversations relating to the growth and development of downtown. Having owned a business in downtown for almost a decade combined with my experience working with the unhoused, I bring a unique perspective to the board.

I would love to work to improve relations between business owners and the unhoused. There are so many resources that many people just don't know about that can help to improve relations on both sides. I would like to be apart of discussions around growth opportunities in downtown as things recovery and adapt post Helene. I am driven to work towards increasing affordable housing and living wages for all. I also find it incredibly important to bring locals back into downtown and would like to discuss and bring solutions to making this more viable for locals. I could go on and on, but these are some of the most important items I would like to achieve if appointed to the board.

My degree is in Sociology. I spent years doing research through listening projects to gather information from groups with differing perspectives than my own. I experience this day to day in my job as a Housing Specialist as well. Listening and learning from others experiences and perspectives is something that I thoroughly enjoy and practice in my everyday life.

Because I live and work downtown, I am out every day observing what is happening in downtown. I take an active role in making downtown better through the boards and commissions I volunteer for. As a DARN Steering Committee member, I represent the residents living downtown. Also as a business person and coach for Mountain BizWorks, I help many businesses with the struggles they all face. Downtown Asheville is the driver for WNC's economy and needs to be supported. As a Continuum of Care member I am interested in supporting our homeless population as well.

Serving on city Boards and Commissions for the last. 15 years has taught me the importance of inclusiveness. We have many diverse communities who rely on downtown for income and support. It is important that we listen to all of these diverse populations to achieve consensus as we make decisions that affect all of us.

I have a passion for downtown Asheville, reflected in the many projects and organizations I've been part of since moving here in 2004. I am willing to put my time and talents to creating and maintaining an organization that will help downtown Asheville thrive. I am capable of thinking outside the box, and am adept at using available resources. I am very aware of how DIDs work and what possibilities they can provide to all downtown stakeholders.

I would like to help create a downtown that is vibrant, user-friendly, open and available to a variety of demographic groups.. I would work to develop strategies to make downtown more sustainable - we have seen the strain that COVID then Helene placed on the economic feasibility of downtown businesses. How can we lessen the negative impact of future events? We need a DID that hears and responds to all its constituents. Good communication is key and must be open both ways - grassroots up and top down.

I have been very successful at synthesizing ideas, finding compromise and reflecting a variety of viewpoints in my board work. I have never taken a board position to further my own interests directly (although, obviously, a better downtown is better for me - and all other property owners), and have in more than one instance voted against a proposal that would have benefitted me, but I didn't believe to be in the best interest of the majority.

Other than the benefit of living in an improved downtown environment, I have no conflicts.
