26 | Introduction to your SIP/ School Profile (appoximately 100 words) | Greenview Knolls Elementary is one of five SMCPS Title 1 schools. We have 425 students in Pre-K thru 5. We welcome 40 Head Start students. For the 2018-19 school year, we maintained an average daily attendance rate of 94.8%. The school population has a mobility rate of 18.8%. We provide a welcoming atmosphere, a student-centered culture, a safe and equitable learning environment. We have highly qualified staff providing quality instruction guided by the Maryland Career and College Readiness Standards. The students of GKES are immersed in opportunities to learn life skills through PBIS, Responsive Classroom, and Conscious Discipline. GKES staff and stakeholders intend to work collaboratively to meet the needs of our students. Our focus area for the school community will be to increase family and school collaboration to increase learning connections between home and school as well as implement strategies that promote long-term success of the whole child. | ||

29 | Progress Made During Prior Year (approximately 50 words) | Fourth and Fifth grade teams met the 2019 AMO targets set by the Maryland State Department of Education. A significant reduction in the number of students reading at the emergency level across grades 1-3 according to the IRLA data. The percentage of students reading on grade level or above significantly increased throughout last year. In September of 2018, there were 16% proficient first grade students compared to the 56% proficient in June. There were 15% proficient second grade students compared to the 19% proficient in June. There were 0% proficient third grade students compared to the 40% proficient in June. | ||

Utilize funds for parent engagement activities to provide families knowledge (curriculum, social/behavior trainings) and resources to assist with learning at home. Additionally, purchase instructional resources to support education to meet the academic, social, and emotional needs of our students. Greenview Knolls is a site for the Federal Head Start Grant. The program focus is to ensure children are socially, emotionally, and physically ready to transition to Kindergarten. Local agencies such as the Police Department and the Department of Social Services also provide ongoing support to ensure the safety and well-being of al stakeholders in our school community. Our school works in conjuction with the St. Mary's County Judy Center and the Federal Food Services Grant to feed children and adults during the summer months. | ||
