BBS - KIRK
2
The SMALLEST and NON-GROWING schools are all run by Kirks.
Kirk is a fighter until the bitter end and GETS THINGS DONE - Bottom Line. HOWEVER... personality types who are 100% Kirk will have a very difficult time growing a large dance school. Since Kirk is heavily oriented towards objectively chasing after his goal, he oftentimes has difficulty relating to people, which is ESSENTIAL to fostering positive, long-lasting relationships with your students. If you do not suppress (control) your abrasive and insecure "Kirk" behavior, 75% of your students will leave.

YOU'RE OFFENDING YOUR STUDENTS - YOU ARE WAY TOO SERIOUS AND CONDESCENDING.
You need to relax, smile, enjoy yourself, and LIGHTEN UP A LOT more.

Kirk carries the weight of the world on his shoulders and can be relentlessly obsessive when he wants to conquer any subject. If you have a strong "Kirk" presence in your personality, make sure to HIRE MANY SCOTTIES AND MCCOYS, and learn how to connect with your students through their example.

High Hand and Shoulders
- ON1 AND ON2 - OPEN BREAKS

(THE RUBBER BAND - COUNTER BALANCE TECHNIQUE)

In ALL Yellow Moves, FOLLOWER IS ON YOUR RIGHT during progressives.

Introduce the BACK SPOT TURN. It is a right turn footwork for the woman. This is later introduced in Cumbia, 3rd Degree yellow, as a "Cumbia Back Spot Turn", with a diagonal Open break instead of linear.

Open breaks are used with progressive rights to bring the follower forward. The followers movement is linear. Leaders will stay very close to the line, keeping their center following the followers movement.
The leaders foot crosses on count 2 in front of the the left...the right foot hooks back on count 5.
1. Open break progressive rt. turns

2. IMPORTANT: As in Slants, the man may DTB "Himself" during an Open Break with a Hook Spin.

Week 1

High Hand and Shoulders
- ON1 AND ON2 -

Cumbia Back Spot Turn

LEFT PIVOTS TURNS/LEFT PIVOT CHECKS (aka Cumbia)

Left pivot turns will use both the Cumbia break and the open break. The check turns in week 2,3, 4 will use Cumbia breaks. The left pivot (no check) will use an open break. Teachers should combine these turns to create combos. (Ex. Basic rt turn, check turn repeat 3x, left pivot w/ leader hook turn)

WEEK 1
Left Pivot Turn (no check) = The leader and follower trade places.

Leader Hook Turns and Leader Left Pencil Turns on Counts 5,6,7

Add ELBOW Checks Cumbia (see McCoy)
Week 1

COPAS
Copas also use open break foot work to create a linear movement for the
follower. Copas can be varied in many ways on counts 5,6,7....cbl, cbl
inside turn, cbl stop, and even right turns. For continuity we will
focus on stardard patterns with all the copas on 5,6,7 resolving with a
cbl prog left.
