TimestampWhat do you love about Science? If you don't love Science, what could we do to make you love it?
2
28/07/2014 19:58:46I love discovering new ideas, and simply learning the thorough and biological ideas being really basic things in life that we take for granted. I really really enjoy independent research reports, so i prefer reports as the basis for internals.
3
28/07/2014 20:16:47How it's so relevant to every day life I love discovering the connections between what we learn in the classroom and real life.
4
28/07/2014 20:20:02It's different; there are so many new and exciting things that continue to be discovered and the ideas behind many concepts in science are actually quite interesting.Hmmm...for those who don't like it, interactive games such as the beak selection simulation game are always fun! And relating these concepts to real life are good.
5
28/07/2014 20:28:59The freedom to be able to learn and discover new things in class and seeing how different processes work and how things work with each other - it's very fascinating!
6
28/07/2014 20:50:40I enjoy discovering the intricacies of the world especially of humans but I also enjoy learning the basic concepts behind the major production of certain objects (e.g. cheese is made by anaerobic respiration of bacteria)
7
28/07/2014 20:53:58Its interesting and it actually relates to real life. Whether of not we pursue a career in science, what we learn through school will benefit us in a number of future situations :)
8
28/07/2014 20:57:50Not just accepting the fact that things (e.g. plants) just grow just because, but actually finding out why and how. It makes you look at the ordinary things in life with a whole new perspective instead of just looking at it like "just a plant" but being able to understand and know that its not "just a plant" its something much more etc. Make it easier.
9
28/07/2014 21:03:28It is very interesting and I find all of the topics very interesting.I love science but would like it more if we did more hands on learning. I am enjoying level 1 biology at the moment because we get to see how plants grow ourselves by growing a bean, doing things like this would enable me to enjoy it more.
10
28/07/2014 21:04:41That is underpins the most complicated and basic systems in our world. There is so much to discover, and so much that has already been discovered, which has completely revolutionized the way we view the world, but has also allowed us to manipulate nature in our favor. Discoveries like the Higgs Boson particle honestly just excite me. One thing that most people around me were put off by was the fact it was 'hard'- I think this is just a perception of it that people seem to have or have been told before they even start. Maybe more emphasis on encouraging girls and making sure they succeed even in Junior Years?
11
28/07/2014 21:39:40Interesting, learn new things that are relevant to our everyday lives, understanding the world we live in, human biology learning about how our body works, everything links together and makes sense
12
28/07/2014 21:53:20I love learning about how things we take for granted can be explained and realising that some things aren't 'just because' but actually have a very complicated series of events that must occur in order for it to happen.
13
28/07/2014 21:59:00I love science because I can discover ideas in a way which satisfies my curiosity. I feel that my perception and the way I make judgements is much fuller when I can have an understanding of the scientific background. I also love it when I hear references to science through people or media and I have an idea of what they are talking about :)Perhaps make it more engaging, i.e.. try to get us to come to the conclusion ourselves using reason and prior knowledge. Also, I love it when there are real world applications and trivia pieces related to science, its a bit disillusioning to view concepts in isolation.
14
28/07/2014 22:40:18It's interesting to learn about how stuff works and why things are the way they are
15
29/07/2014 00:09:05I love making links between real life and theory, I love it when an explanation just clicks, and you suddenly are able to understand. I love the process of thinking, and being able to draw conclusions and hypothesise about the living world. I love biology and the science of recessive and dominant alleles. I love being able to use this knowledge and apply it to my family and their eye colour. I love understanding.
16
29/07/2014 08:46:55Its interesting, and I like learning about new things and then applying it to life
17
29/07/2014 08:55:05I love learning about how and why things happen. I find it really interesting, when I understand it. I don't like it when you are confused and you can't get your head around it no matter how hard you try.
18
29/07/2014 08:57:07Its interesting.Make Biology more hands on, and write more notes.
19
29/07/2014 09:06:03Learning about things that relate specifically to us as humans.
20
29/07/2014 09:49:17I enjoy learning new things that are relevant to science today and being able to see how everything fits together. Science is such a broad subject there are heaps of areas that are interesting to learn about.
21
29/07/2014 13:31:29Experiments and when you get the big picture, especially when it's to do with the human anatomy. Make it easier
22
29/07/2014 13:37:11Practical and applicable to everyday life. I like to be able to look at the world around me and understand why leaves change colour or why I have similar traits to my parents. I like how it is a mixture of both written, visual and practical learning. I find it very interesting and am continuing on doing a science based degree.
23
29/07/2014 13:37:17Finding out about new and interesting ways to look at life and the outdoors etc.
- love learning about animals
just more outdoor stuff, like agriculture... more hands on in year 13 :)
24
29/07/2014 13:38:24Its annoying and complecated sometimes! however i kind of like the fact that you learn stuff about how things work in this world etc. and its kind of cool knowing stuff that not many people do. eg some of my friends and family dont know what mitosis is etc. and its cool being able to understand and explain it.Make Exam Questions easier :)
25
29/07/2014 13:38:44The Fact that it all links up in some way and it makes the things that happen in the world make so much more sense. I tend to have a lot of ahaa moments and I find sometimes that it can link into Chemistry which is amazing because then we have both subjects intertwining, and that to me is a cool thing.
26
29/07/2014 13:42:52I love Science because it explains everything about how the world works and why humans and animals and things do things. It makes common sense as to what things do and I find it really fun and enjoyable learning about how things work and why things do stuff in the world.
27
29/07/2014 13:49:47I like that Science is a very logical subject and that the things we learn can be applied to our lives. It helps us to better understand the world around us and gives us a new perspective.
28
29/07/2014 20:25:24I don't love it but I don't really hate it. I guess the things that I like are just the interesting things that you find out about the world and how things work. I just like it because I know it will lead me into my future of wanting to be a nurse. Uhh I think that doing human biology in biology would make it far more interesting because I know that I need to take a science to succeed in my future but I feel like studying just plants and animals for three years doesn't really interest me all that much.
29
29/07/2014 20:37:08That it can explain so many of the answers to my questions, it is so broad that there is someone dedicated to finding out such seemingly tiny bits of information for others to use and increase their knowledge
30
29/07/2014 20:38:11i like science so much. it was hard for me to catch up with the class but i could learn a lot of things about science that i didn't learn in Japan so it was really new and fun to me.
31
29/07/2014 20:48:12I like how you can learn something and be taught to put it in a wider situatution. It helpes you to appreciate everything in live, because you realise how something so basic, such as a cell, is so complex and important. Somethimes a teacher only teaches science in her and his way, which isn't easy for another to learn.
32
29/07/2014 21:01:15I loved learning about everything in such depth. Having a teacher who you understand and their way of communicating and teaching makes me enthusiastic to learn and makes me very interested in the topic.
33
29/07/2014 21:01:54I like that we get to learn about different things each year, not like in maths where you just build on that topic. I like how we have class discussions and don't really just spend the whole lesson working out of our text books (you find different ways of teaching us) and I like that we can answer a question if we want to, we don't get picked to answer a question. I have found it really fun and interesting so far this year and am enjoying it. Thanks :)
34
29/07/2014 21:12:55I enjoy learning how things happen in the scientific side to things and love to constantly learn new things that amaze me, although I may struggle with it sometimes I still enjoy the content.Having a variety of different teaching/learning styles incorporated.
35
29/07/2014 22:33:13I love how science looks at the world; the way it never stops asking questions. It has grown in popularity over time from being the passion of philosophers who were curious as to why the world behaved as it did to a phenomenon that is taught in schools all over the world and means that everyday people know why the seasons change and why the sky is blue. It has helped all facets of life; massive advances in medicine has meant humans live longer and to a better standard; technological advances have sped up thanks to science, meaning we know live in a world where information is available everywhere; food production is much easier thanks to modern agriculture; and maybe the most helpful of all: science has given us answers as well as broadening our minds and appreciation of the miracle of life. For me, the feeling of realizing the importance and value of every cell in my body to understanding the atoms that make up all matter to learning the laws of energy conservation (my favourite, that energy is never created nor destroyed, only transformed or transferred) and most of all realising how infinitely big the universe is compared to my small life has a profound effect. These things give my life meaning and remind me to appreciate every moment. They remind me how special the universe is and how lucky I am to be alive today, and alive in a time of global consciousness, where many people are aware of the bigger picture, rather than the mundaneness of normal life. I am so thankful to all the people who have taught me science in my life for this, including my amazing Science/Biology teacher of three years, Mrs Moore, my father, who always answers my questions and has inspired within me a deep love of Stephen Hawking and National Geographic, and all the tutors and teachers on the science field trips and outgoings I've been lucky to go on since attending Dio. I think the most important thing for enjoying science is to be taught by someone truly passionate, and that is what I am lucky enough to have experienced at this school.
36
30/07/2014 06:50:18Learing about our earth and what happens on it. I like finding things out that that are mind boggling. I like that its diffrent from other common subjects eg you dont have to be brillent at english. Learning new terminology is cool to.
37
30/07/2014 08:03:05How it relates to everything, and the areas you can study are so vast and in depth it's practically impossible to get bored.Less emphasis on answering assesment questions until the end of topic
38
30/07/2014 09:14:37I like how it explains how the world works any why things do what they do.
39
30/07/2014 09:22:22The different topics that we learn. Each are different but are able to be linked together which makes it more interesting to learn about.
40
30/07/2014 09:22:58learning why things do what they do, and being able to find ways to improve the way things work to make them more efficient or suitable.
41
30/07/2014 09:24:13I like learning about how and why different things happen and being able to apply it to what we do everyday in our lives. It helps things to make complicated ideas easy to understand and make sense.
42
30/07/2014 09:30:33--> interesting
--> lots in the subject
--> can relate it to life
--> so much to learn
--> big words, big content, lots to learn
-->
43
30/07/2014 11:45:20Learning something new and exciting.
44
31/07/2014 22:29:22Seeing things in new ways-when suddenly a connection is made in your brain and you suddenly have this knowledge of something you've always known about but never understood.
Or when you discover completely new things. That's cool too.
45
05/08/2014 14:43:08Making connections between what I see in the world, and what it means is actually happening, and why.
46
07/08/2014 17:59:06biology, as it seems worthwhile by learning about things that are interesting and can be seen and used in real life.
