138	I feel as a parent that I should decide if I want my child to wear a uniform that I have to pay for.	In Wailuku Elementary there is this waver that gave parents the decision to not have there child wear a uniform and I think that should be in place considering, the price of the uniforms, the choice to choose, also how the kids want to express themselves in a good and appropriate manner.	Thank you for your submittal. Why do you feel that your child should not wear a uniform like everyone else in school?
139	I believe students should be able to wear bear wear on uniform days. It still shows Bear Pride. If the concern is that other students are not wearing uniform OR Bear Wear, there has to be more enforcement from faculty and admin to make sure this doesn't happen.	Crack down on those not in dress code/uniform/bear wear. -- reminder in the beginning during SCHWA for teachers to send students to get uniforms or bear wear.	Bear Wear is allowed during special dates that is approved by Administration.

142	4 days of uniforms are way too much. There was a petition last year in which many students voted to not have uniforms anymore and it feels like their "student voice" was ignored as we not only didn't get any response on the issue but we got another day of free dress taken away.	We should have an official vote from the school to decide on whether or not uniform days are really necessary.	Thank you for your submission. Last year, the petition garnered around 800 responses was presented to Principal Wilhelm and he compromised by allowing Bear Wear Wednesdays. However, students were getting busted for taking Bear Wear Wednesdays as opportunities for free dress, so the administration decided to remove the Wednesday and add more uniform days.
143	What even happened to that one petition to remove more dress code days, the principles idea was really to add more? It seems pointless to have the idea of “student voice” when they disregard their attempts at it.	Look at the petition made from last year and at the least take consideration of the voices from students, there were hundreds of signatures from students that clearly show that the students don’t want more of the uniform.	Thank you for your submission. The petition was presented to Principal Wilhelm and had the effect of Bear Wear Wednesdays in second semester last year. However, the administration observed students not following the Bear Wear Wednesdays and decided to increase the uniform days.
144	Polos should only be on mondays and tuesdays or not at all because they cost money when we could just use the clothes we already have. Also we are the only public school that has to wear a uniform which is unfair. If there is gonna be a uniform it should just be a regular shirt because the polos do not make sense and they are uncomfortable. If the polos are going to be required then the teachers should also be required to wear them as well because most of my teachers wear whatever they want to school while we have to wear the polos. Also there was a petition that was signed last year by many students to get rid of the uniforms on one of the days and nothing happened.	Either uniforms are abolished or make the polos into regular t shirts or make the uniforms allowed to be bear wear instead.	Thank you for your submission. Teachers have a union allowing free dress. Additionally, some public elementary and middle schools require uniforms. As for the money, uniform costs are covered for those that fill out the free & reduced lunch form and those protected under the McKinney-Vento Act. 145	Uniforms should be made as t-shirts without a collar/polo.	I believe that making Baldwin t-shirts as uniform would have students wear it rather than having to wear a collared polo shirt. 146	Students should be able to play volleyball/physical activities during lunch and recess breaks.	Being able to do such activities helps connect students together, as well as spending their breaks doing physical activity.	Thank you for your submission. According to administration, the activities were becoming dangerous to people around them. During non-instructional hours, the play courts are open to volleyball and other physical activities.
147	I believe that if you would like us to wear uniforms, we should have more then one free dress day.	I believe we should have our dress code Monday Tuesday and Wensday should be Bearwear and thursday and frida should be free dress. If I were to start a petiton and get signatures from the students and teachers who disagree with the uniforms this year, would that make a change?	Thank you for your submission. You may start a petition, but a large amount of the change rests on if the administration is amenable to the changes you propose and implementations you suggest. A petition was presented last year, but the administration observed students not following the Bear Wear Wednesdays and decided to increase the uniform days.
148	Are there any exceptions to not wearing the uniform?	Are all students from Lahaina exempt from wearing their uniform.	Thank you for your submission. All students enrolled at Baldwin High School are required to wear the uniform on uniform days. Transfers are not exempt from this.
149	How are the effectiveness of uniforms being measured?	Has there really been any sort of improvement in school spirit, test scores, and behavior by enforcing the uniforms?	Thank you for your submission. As far as we known, the effectiveness of uniforms are not being measured quantitatively.

151	From my personal perspective I wake up always wanting to wear something that suits me, something I personally feel comfortable in and something that shows my personality. The school uniforms are ok but I personally feel like 4 days is too much. I do tend to feel insecure in those uniforms because its not really me and I end up always wearing a jacket in this heat just to be able to have some sort of security. I just wish uniforms can go back to monday and tuesdays like my freshman year or at least just monday- wednesday.	I feel like I can't be me and express who I am with what I wear. The uniforms are okay but I feel that other students feel the same way. I think maybe if we can just go back to 2 days in the week or 3 if it's really that bad that you guys want the uniform it will make days for people to express themselves by what they are wearing. I would come to those meeting but I don't like talking or wanna make my self known.. thank you.	Thank you for your submission. Please come to the meetings and make your opinion known! 154	Bell Schedule	Please don’t change the Bell Schedule to 80 or 70 minutes. Me personally, I think it’s fine how it is and I know that if it’s longer it’s possible for a students mental health to be drained. To add to that, what if a student doesn’t like a class and suddenly the schedule changes.	Thank you for your submission. The staff will take into consideration what students think, but at this point the bell schedule change is not a student decision to make. We are following the recommendations of the DOE and the accreditation team that reviewed us last year.
155	From Henry	Thank you for all of the concerns shared regarding the dress code. I will forward your submissions to the administration and make sure your reasons are heard. I will do my best to get their responses back to you.	In the meantime, I would like to bring your attention to the work the Homeroom Ambassadors have been doing --- they have been putting together multiple proposals and action plans to loosen the restrictions on the dress code and uniform days. Mr. Wilhelm will be taking those into consideration when drafting up a new plan for the next school year. Thank you for continuing to share your student voice.

157	why don't we get to vote for our class president? Was it just automatically chose from last year at iao?	Let us elect our own class president.	Thank you for your submission. We have taken that into consideration and can make a change for the next school year. We can start next year's freshmen off by having them vote for their officers at the very start of the school year.

159	you guys need to get staff that have respect for the students on our campus. today i was getting my prom papers signed. i was explaining my problem to the person looks at me and tells me “you have a lot of problems i remember you from last time”. first of all you don’t need to make those unnecessary comments i’m a human being growing and learning for mistakes everyday. if your just gonna throw things in my face why are you here to be a so called “good example” and you can’t even have respect for the students on your campus	talk to them and tell them they're here to help students not put them down they have no idea what i go through	Thank you for your submission. We will let the staff member in question know that their comment was hurtful to you. We believe that all staff members at school are here to help and uplift our students.
