On the surface, the Preserve created by the Tlic appears to be keeping the Terrans "Safe" on the alien planet, but in reality it's more like a breeding ground. The false feeling of security in "Bloodchild" for the Terrans is implied by using tactics such as the life sustaining eggs, the narcotic sting they use during birth, even the devotion and life - long relationship of T'Gatoi and her involvement with the development of their family. The sterile eggs heal the Terran and give them longevity, however fertile eggs are the source of their horror and in certain situations, their demise (Butler 5). The sting T-Gatoi uses when she impregnates Gan dulls the pain, much like an anesthetic. Showing how even though she dulls his pain and promises she won't hurt or leave him, she's still implanting larve which could kill him (Butler 30).

The Tlic impose the lifestyle of the Terran living on a "Preserve" to keep them "Safe" while utilizing them as hosts for their young. Using the eggs for more than one purpose to serve their goals.

In "Bloodchild," Butler describes where the Terran live as a Preserve. I am going to prove that the "Preserve" is actually a sexual slavery compound. The tilc and terrain relationship within the preserve was sexual slavery because Gan's pregnancy was rape.Gan had saved his sister from impregnated with the TLics offspring by volunteering himself. He volunteered himself because he did not want his sister to go through the pain and also if Gan and the terrans did not comply they would all be killed (26)

The uneven exchange in Octavia Butler's "Bloodchild" highlights the power struggle between the two species and how much sacrifice is needed for survival. With great power, comes great sacrifices!

But at the same time, Tlic Sacrifices their eggs for humans to eat it and survive, and they are protecting the preserve for the humans from other outside aliens.

Is a symbiotic relationship necessary for survival?"
Yes, for the Tlic but not for the Humans. On page 23 " the animals we once used began killing most of our eggs after implantation long before your ancestors arrived " which shows the Tlic found Humans hosts make bigger better Tlic adults more safely. Also n page 11 " My mother raised a few Terran animals for the table and several thousand local ones for there fur " proves that Humans raise food and don't need the eggs which they get fed by the Tlic . The "egg dream " on page 11 as in when "lomas began to regain conciousness" which shows eggs make the Humans docile and drugged. From page 17 we read " Then they ate there hosts " meaning the Humans risk death hosting the Tlic. On the same page we read "Then they ate there hosts " which means One day the Humans pull the Gun from the pipe " and do you mean to use it to shoot me" will Kill the Tlic to avoid the hosting, so symbiotic relationship works for Tlic but not needed by Humans.

In "Bloodchild," Butler describes where the Terran live as a Preserve. I am going to prove that the "Preserve" is actually a sexual slavery compound.A symbiosis of a social and gender inequality race over other is a main theme in "Bloodchild".
