64 volunteers were assigned to cover 21 areas to be counted, from the Upper Squamish to downtown Squamish, and from Paradise Valley to the Stawamus River. Bald eagles detected along the Eagle Run Dike (EagleWatch survey area) are included in this total.

Weather: 1 degrees C; fresh snow on the mountain peaks with a dusting of snow lower down; sun on the mountain tops (beautiful); blue skies above but low cloud, dense fog lower down; very foggy along the river banks making it difficult to see & count; icy, very damp and chilly this morning - but refreshing & beautiful! Other observations: River: lots of suds; larger island partially covered with water due to higher water level; flow is rapid.

Weather: 5 degrees C, raining heavily, cold wind, low cloud cover. Other observations: 1 woman and dog, one family of 5 and 1 jogger, 1 merganser, +++sea gulls, water low despite rain- lots of gravel, land showing, water moving fast, Watershed busy :)

Weather: Raining but not too heavily. Other observations: About 18 people out walking despite the weather. Met a lovely family from West Van. I was able to focus the scope in on the pair of eagles in the tree so they all had a look.

Other observations: A very quiet and uneventful morning; 1 bufflehead flying south; few seagulls: flying south 1 + 3; flying North 3 + 8; The River: the river is lower this morning; the larger island is visible again; suds still emanating from the out-flow valve again; most noticeable was the ROAR of the river water.

Weather: high clouds, some sunshine. Other observations: A large flock of seagulls flew over and then landed around 2:30 -couldn't count but close to 75 i would guess. 1 bufflehead duck.

Weather: 5 degrees C and raining. Little to no wind. Other observations: Saw about 12 other people (varying group sizes) on the dike during shift. Dozens of seagulls clustered on sand bars. Saw one black and white duck-like bird, likely a Hooded Merganser.

Weather: 6 degrees C; low cloud; overcast; constant drizzle; dusting of fresh snow on visible mountain tops; outflow wind - breezy & damp; a very wet & overcast morning. Other observations: 1 merganser in the water; 1 female bufflehead in the river; Seagulls: 2 solo flying North; flocks of 11, 9, 6, 28 flying North; 2 solo flying South down river.

Weather: Cloudy, 6 degrees C, no rain. Other observations: Raft, jet ski who tore up and down river numerous times, 15 sea gulls, 11 geese (again Carl H) 4 mergansers and a lot - 70 + people and dogs.

Weather: A very beautiful morning for the first day of the New Year! 3 degrees C; it was sunny with clear skies; no rain; some low cloud hugging the mountains; new snow on mountain peaks; we could clearly see Whistler mountain tops from our location; wind was mild from the northeast; we could clearly see the waning gibbous moon; a very bright, beautiful morning! Other observations: Few birds were seen: one seagull on the light post; 4 gulls on the river bank; 1 on the large island; groups of gulls flying North - flock of 10, flock of 6, group of 3, and one on its own & 3 ducks in the water.

Weather: Raining when I started with beautiful rainbow but stopped and sun came out. About 9 degrees, no wind. Water high and fast. Other observations: One seal, 100+ seagulls, 15 crows, 6 common mergansers , about 32 people.

Weather: Light rain, mist on the river, 9 degrees C, visibility was limited due to misty conditions. Other observaions: 2 seals, 20 people walking dike. Watched an adult eagle drift and swim down river dragging a fish from near the Water shed to the west side of the river near the log jam. One seal tailed the eagle until the eagle reached shore. A few water fowl and sea gulls.

Weather: 0 to 3 degrees C; steady rain; dike walk was very wet with many puddles; it was overcast; the surrounding mountains were surrounded with fog and low cloud; it was misty; the visibility was poor and our binoculars steamed up! Other observations: We observed 2 bufflehead ducks; 1 seagull on an island; few smallish flocks of seagulls (5 to 15 gulls per flock) were flying North.

Weather: Overcast, dark, 2 degrees C, snowing above 4000 ft. Other observations: 11 swans flew high overhead heading south, 4 people on dike.

Weather: 1 degree to 2 degrees C; high thin clouds; grey-blue skies; not windy; very calm morning. Other observations: 2 adult eagles were on the beach, feet in the water; 3 adults were perching; People: 2 different people with 1 dog each; 1 person with camera (saw him yesterday as well); sea gulls: 7 flying North; flock of 50 flying North; 20 more also flying North; 105 + also flying North; 2 on larger sand island; 1 lone merganzer.

Weather: 4 degrees C, no precipitation, partly cloudy with light wind. Other observations: 1 harbour seal, a few Barrow's Goldeneye and Common Merganser, approx. 30 people walking along the dike.

Weather: -3 degrees to 1 degree C; sunny with low cloud; more fresh snow on Diamond Head Mountain; and the river water was high - no smaller sand islands were showing. Other observations: We saw 2 buffleheads then later saw 17 buffleheads swimming in deeper water; the eagles were chattering; 1 adult eagle was playing with a gull in flight; circling; 2 more gulls joined in; this went on for about 7 minutes (fun to watch); sea gulls: 2 flying North; a flock of about 25 also flying North; another flock of approximately 40 flying North.

Weather: Very grey and dreary. Rain started while I was there. Other observations: Saw some geese fly over head. 2 ducks on the river. No seagulls which seemed strange to me.

Weather: Sunny with cloudy periods. Warm. Low tide. Other observations: 1 seal basking on a rock in the river.

Weather: 7 degrees C, partial clouds, lots of blue. Other observations: Various duck species like common mergansers and buffleheads. Probably about 30 people walking the dike. A few plus dogs down on the beach.

Weather: 4 degrees C; clear skies with some low cloud; the mountains North of us near Whistler were covered with new snowfall since yesterday's observations; Diamond Head also displayed a new dusting of snow; and the river was flowing more slowly than the morning before. Other observations: 3 adult eagles were perching across the river, 1 was flying and perched high on a conifer tree in the Easter Seal Camp area and started chattering during our entire walk back to the car; we did see 2 cyclists; later on we saw 2 walkers with 1 dog, another walker with 1 dog, 4 adults with a toddler and 1 dog, and 2 walkers with one dog off-leash; a flock of 6 buffleheads swimming; 2 sea gulls perched on a log in the middle of the river.

Weather: Cloudy, 6 degrees C, no wind or rain. Other observations: One seal, 50+ gulls, 8 Golden eye, over 50 people on dyke. I asked numerous people with cameras and binoculars if they had seen eagles- not at this location. Apparently many by Mamquam.

Other observations: It was an uneventful morning on the dike; very quiet; no eagles chattering; 4 small flocks of geese ( approximately 7 to 12 members per group) moving North; 1 merganzer; 1 bufflehead; 1 raven; 2 people walking South; 2 people with a dog walking South.

Other observations: We saw two flocks of sea gulls flying North - one had 15 members & the second had 24 members; 15 sea gulls swimming; 20 bufflehead ducks swimming; One adult eagle was sitting on the smallest island; two adult eagles were perching in the tree beside the EagleWatch shelter and two adult eagles were flying and chattering; No juvenile eagles to be found this morning; the snow became heavier as we walked the dike; there were no people to be seen; no dog walkers or runners.

Weather: 8.5 degrees C, skies cleared with light clouds and some sunshine; snow on the mountain tops; a very pleasant morning. Other observations: What was interesting this AM was the amount of eagle activity: 2 adults eating salmon on the sand bar, one with three crows circling; 5 adults and 3 juveniles "kettling" for some time over the river; the eagles were very vocal this morning and many were flying about. We also observed 1 heron; 2 harbour seals; several ducks swimming; and very few sea gulls.
