Mean years of Schooling Dataset - v1 via Gapminder
=gm_dataset_validation()

About this fileThis file has multiple sheets with data for one or more indicators used by Gapminder. In this sheet below you'll first find an overview of the indicators (measures) and the list of underlying sources. The actual data we use, is found in the sheet(s) labeled "data-...".
This file is also a documentation of the data process. To follow how the data was transformed from the original sources, start in the sheet to the far right, which holds the input data. You can then follow the process step by step, by looking at the formulas in the sheets from right to left, until you reach the output in the "data-..." sheets.

Dataset description:Gapminder has imported data on Global educational attainment from Institute of Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME). IHME provides estimates of average years of educational attainment per capita for people over the age of 15 for the years 1970-2015 by year, sex, and age group for 188 countries, 21 GBD regions, 7 GBD super regions, and the global aggregate. We extract data on mean years of schooling, for both women and men aged 25-34 years for countries and territories and world. The data in this spreadsheet are used to respond to the question in the Global Misconception Survey 2017 which asked:" Worldwide, 30-year-old men have spent 10 years in school, on average. How many years have women of the same age spent in school? A: 9 years B: 6 years C: 3 years".According to IHME, women aged 25 to 34 have an average of 9.09 years of schooling, and men have 10.21 Worldwide.

For developersIf you like the data we use into your own products, it's better if you fetch data from our standardized gitHub repo on https://open-numbers.github.io
These spreadsheets are part of Gapminder's data compilation process and allow end users to track how we combine data.
