Description:Challenge Based Learning (CBL) and Problem Based Learning (PBL) are two of many instructional strategies that can be used with students to generate interest, connect to the world outside the classroom, create interdisciplinary learning opportunities, and give students a daily reason to engage in the long-term classroom goals. We will view examples, find resources, and brainstorm with your colleagues about these and other types of learning experiences that you can use to "hook your students" on learning. This class will be an introduction on how Evernote on our Macs, iPads, and iPhones can be utilized as a conferring tool. We will create classroom notebooks, explain how to share those notebooks with families and students at home, and discuss creative ways in which we can use this tool within our contents. This class will focus on how to develop our lessons with the purpose of increasing rigor and incorporating relevance. Insight will also be given on how to differentiate instruction for gifted students. This class will focus on incorporating the Native American unit into the 8th grade curriculum for social studies teachers. This class will focus on incorporating AVID strategies into the workshop model. ***If you are new to New Mark, this is required for you to attend either on Friday or Tuesday.***Symbaloo is a tool used for Problem-Based Learning. We CAN bust out of our lonely silos/classrooms with tech... and Twitter is the #1 tool I recommend to every educator. It gives you--as a learner, as an innovator--WINGS to fly. :) 1. Power tips to help you get most out of Twitter on your own terms--for rockin' classroom lessons, for your own learning/curiosity, and for building your professional learning network (PLN). 2. Twitter chats--will highlight our very own state edchat, #MOedchat, AND we'll DO a mini-edchat today so you can see what it's like. 3. Share ubercool collaboration app-- Voxer. We will look at a variety of sites to supplement our curriculum. Bring your fully charged laptop and a few of your favorite web sites to share. A majority of the time will be spent surfing for lessons, worksheets, and activities."Goodnotes! - Come check out the features of this amazingly powerful handwriting app that works perfectly in and out of the classroom. Use it easlity for Cornell note taking and/or documenting conferring notes. You can make your "to do" lists digital as well. The notes you create can even be automatically backed up in Dropbox. Jake has created several Cornell note templates that are available to those who attend this session. The class will cover three items:

1) Noodletools: Citation and Note taking.

2) Databases: District resources available for student research.

3) Research Project Basics: 6 main steps and how to create projects that require higher level thinking, rather than just reporting the facts.
This will be our group's first session for our book study on, "Teach Like a Pirate" by Dave Burgess. This class will cover the mini-lesson component of the workshop model and how to create and utilize relevance through hooks. This class will cover effective strategies that have been studied in the Penny Kittle cohort.Go beyond the basics with tips & tricks to become more proficient and efficient with your laptop and your use of the electronic gradebook.
