2023UR 361.3 Ar6 2023Araña, VB Amahris L.,Lived experiences of the social workers handling cases of individuals and families in crisis situations : focus on stress and copingSocial Work is a helping profession providing attention not only to the client, but also their environment. As social workers' top priority is to meet their client's needs and to uplift and empower those who are in need or are vulnerable, they are being exposed to their work environment, including cases with their clients, increasing the risk of accumulating stress. Moreover, during the COVID-19 pandemic, social workers became one of the frontline professionals giving clients a variety of health and social support and services to address the devastating effects of the pandemic. The main purpose ofthis research study is to gain knowledge and determine the various stressors that are experienced by social workers as they manage cases specifically in individuals and families in crisis situations (Micro Social Work level), the effects of the stressors in their ability to manage the cases as well as the coping mechanisms they usually utilize. This study is qualitative research which utilizes case study methods. The participants of the study were ten registered social workers from different parts of Luzon, which were chosen using purposive and convenience sampling. The data were collected through open-ended interview questionnaires. Using narrative analysis, the data were observed, interpreted, transcribed and categorized themes. Based on the findings ofthe study, it was revealed that social workers handling individuals and families in crisis situations accumulate internal and external stressors which fall under personal, organizational and work-based. Moreover, social workers are mostly being challenged due to lack of participation of the client's parents, refusal of clients, conflict with the management and partners, excessive workloads, lack of resources, and being exposed to COVID19 virus. It is then concluded that the stressors found in the workplace affects the social workers' emotional well-being as well as their ability to manage their client's cases. As a result, social workers engaged in different coping mechanisms such as self-care, receiving support from coworkers and families and through recreational activities. The researchers then recommend that social workers should be given support and interventions coming from the agencies through programs, staff care activities, and seminars. Giving support and learning different coping mechanisms can improve their overall well-being and their competencies in handling cases.16-A

2022UR 361.3 D59 2022Diona, Maxine E.,Factors influencing children in conflict with the law : basis for an enhanced intervention programThe Philippine government recommended lowering the age of criminal liability in order to curb the criminality rate in the country. However, according to the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Council, Children in Conflict with the Law (CICL) and Children At Risk (CAR) are only victims of circumstances beyond their control, and they should be treated as individuals with problems who need help and appropriate services. The study aimed to analyze the factors influencing the CICL to commit delinquent acts as well as the gaps in the operationalization of R.A. 9344. The researchers used a survey questionnaire to obtain important information from the two pillars ofthe Juvenile Justice System. In conclusion. the study reveals that socio-demographic factors, socioeconomic status, and family structure are some reasons why the CICLs commit delinquent acts. There is also an apparent gap in the operationalization of the R.A. 9344. Based on the results of the study, the researchers proposed an enhanced intervention program with the active involvement of parents in the intervention process.7-D

2021UR 361.3 Al4 2021Almeda, Olivia U.,Psychosocial support as an intervention for social work frontliners amidst the pandemicSocial workers aides and officers working in DSWD are the ones executing the distribution of cash aids in the social amelioration program in their respective local governments or LGUs and as front liners, they need to receive psychosocial support as it will help build their internal and external well-being to cope with adversity. With all these being said, the study then aims to assess the effectiveness of psycho-social support as a social work front-line worker amidst this pandemic. According to the World Health Organization (2020), social workers can give personal and professional support to one another in particular ways. WHO also stated that the worldwide response to the COVID-19 pandemic must include psychological crisis management techniques that could help the workers with their well-being. This then suggests that psychosocial support could be an effective intervention in assisting our workers not just during a crisis but also in other aspects of their specialization. Survey questionnaire was used to explore the following questions: 1. What are the conditions of the social work front liners amidst the pandemic in terms of their length and nature of work? 2. What are the processes involved in the conduct of the psychosocial support that helped the social workers with their emotional and well-being focused on the following: a) .Activities and Strategies, b). Techniques Used, c). Skills Applied, 3. How effective is psychosocial support as an intervention to help social workers serving as front liners amidst this pandemic? 4. What recommendations can be given in order to further improve the conduct of psychosocial support as an intervention for social workers serving as front liners?. The study was carried out virtually using Google Forms. Descriptive statistics was utilized to illustrate and summarize the data collected. In conclusion, this study reveals that psychosocial support is a beneficial intervention for front-line social workers throughout the presence of this crisis. The conducted data gathering obtained substantial information from social workers in the province of Oriental Mindoro on their experiences amidst the pandemic and the processes that they went through during the provision of psychosocial support, even its effects on their well-being.12-A

2017UR 361.3 D12 2017Daguman, Des Rozcenlij R.The effects on the academic performance on children with parents working abroadOverseas Filipino Workers (OFW) are migrants who work outside their origin country. Remittances of OFW are the single most important source of income for household with migrant parent/s, according to Semyonov and Gorodzeisky (2005). These were also used by families by families to finance their children's education, according to Antman (2012). The migration of parents has an effect on the left behind children. These effects were correlated to the following factors:age, age when children were left by their parents, gender of parents, number of parents migrated, length of time that the children were away from their parents, and the strength of child-parent relationship. The purpose of this study is to determine the effects of the parents working abroad on the academic performance of their children. A total sample of 16 students with parents working abroad were taken into the sample by using the purposive sampling technique. A questionnaire was used in collecting data. Findings revealed that the absence of the parents has no negative impact on the academic performance of the left-behind children. Children were inspired with their parents and made them their inspiration to achieve high grades. Socialization has been the coping mechanism of the left behind children to their new environment.3-D

2017UR 361.3 D34 2017De Leon, Niña Rica.Influence of parenting style to the academic engagement of CEU social work students : a predictive cross-sectional studySeveral researches posited that parenting style is a predictor of engagement as stated in the study of Rivers, Jr. (2008). In this particular endeavor, it was proven that the parenting style really influenced academic engagement, however, among these parenting styles, one of the most notable result is the neglectful parenting significantly predicts academic engagement (R=.45). Through predictive cross sectional design, the researchers were able to prove that neglectful parenting style is the most significant style for the CEU social work students for them to be able to be engage academically. This means that the social work students should be given freedom so as to do well in their academics. Future implications of the results are discussed in this paper.4-D

2017UR 361.3 D85 2017Dueñas, Anthony Jones V.The influence of life experience to resiliency : a predictive cross-sectional studyYouth, nowadays, are being involved in different life events, both positive and negative events, which give impact in their lives. Their experiences affect the way they will think and act on the events that they will encounter in the future. Identifying the resiliency level of the youth is helpful in understanding how youth cope from diverse life events they encounter. The researchers used predictive cross-sectional method in this study. They gathered their data at Brgy. 836, Pandacan, Manila being the youth, both ISY and OSY as their respondents. The data gathered from the respondents become the basis of the researcher identifying the level of resiliency and the impact of different life events to the respondent. Through the research conducted, the researchers were able to know the difference between the Out-of-School youth and In-school Youth when it comes to their life experiences and their level of resiliency. From the data interpreted, it turned out that there is a significant difference between the life events of Out-of-School youth and In-school youth. Findings have shown that the OSYs have more negative experiences than the ISY. When it comes to the resiliency level of OSY and ISY the data shows that there is no significant difference between the out-of-school youth and In-school youth. It was also concluded through the data that more negative experiences results to lesser resiliency and more positive experiences result to higher resiliency. Thus, the study identifies that the life experiences of the youth have an impact on their resiliency level. The study also ascertained that Life event is not a significant predictor of Resiliency. Meaning, there are other factors that affects the resiliency level of people.5-D

2017UR 361.3 En5 2017Encina, Hannah Patrisha T.The coping skills of the social workers who are handling the Pantawid Pamilya beneficiariesMany social workers enter the profession because they have a desire to help others in need and contribute to the betterment of society. They are drawn to a line of work wherein they can assist individuals, groups, families, and communities to surmount the hardships and challenges that life brings. New to their craft, these budding professionals are fully prepared to use their hard-earned knowledge and to hone their skills to attain the rewards that are promised by a people-oriented practice. What comes as a surprise to some, however, is the huge toll that the work takes on social workers' emotional well-being, physical health, and interpersonal functioning over the course of their, sometimes short, careers. Leaders in the field of social work are now calling attention to the sometimes serious consequences of work-related stress on individuals and the systems in which they are employed. Meanwhile, Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4P's) and formerly Ahon Pamilyang Pilipino, is a conditional cash transfer program of the Philippine government under the Department of Social Welfare Development. It aims to eradicate extreme poverty in the Philippines by investing in health and education particularly in ages 0-14. The purpose of this study is to find out the coping skills of the Social Workers Handling the Pantawid Pamilya Beneficiaries. A total of 15 social worker respondents were taken into the sample by using purposive sampling technique. The data were collected through the form of questionnaire. The result are most of the selected respondents were able to handle different kinds of stresses in handling the beneficiaries in the Pantawid Pamilya Program.1-E

2017UR 361.3 J26 2017Jalos, Kirsty Angela M.Depression and suicidal tendency : a predictive-cross sectional studyThere have been a lot of studies regarding depression and suicide. According to Jill Goldstein (2016), director of research at the Connors Center for Women's Health and Gender Biology at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, women have about twice the risk of developing depression than men; in addition women tend to be more tuned into their emotions and better able to describe them when depressed. This research is to investigate depression levels and suicidal levels of selected college students. Results revealed that depression is not a significant predictor, however, one of the notable findings is that depression and suicidal tendencies differ among male and female respondents. In this investigation, it was found that female have higher suicidal tendency compared with male respondents. Implications of these results are discussed in this paper.1-J

2017UR 361.3 V57 2017Vesagas, Richie Nicole A.Perception of selected urban parents on the effects of corporal punishment on their childrenCorporal punishment is universal, which makes it one of the highly controversial issues around the world. That's why, this study was conducted to examine the perception of urban parents on the effects of corporal punishment on their children. Physical or corporal punishment defined as the use of physical force with the intention of causing a child to experience pain, but not injury, purposely to correct a child's undesirable behavior (Strauss, 2010). It usually involves spanking. yelling, pinching, scolding and twisting with joints.
