Voters deserve the opportunity to hold their elected officials accountable for poor performance and/or bad behavior.

2330301Jeremy MunsonState Representative District 23BTRUERme@jeremymunson.comTRUEUndecidedYesYesUndecidedUndecidedYesUndecidedI believe most non-disclosures should be prevented, but there are certain settlements which are made in cases where accusations have not been verified or believed to be true. An independent review of these cases should always add an interpretation to public information. Body camera information should be available by request only when a crime is suspected and after the investigation is complete. Court room cameras need to protect the identity of victims - there already exists a certain pressure to prevent victims from coming forward due to unwanted publicity. Economic interest statements should only provide information on sources of income and investments - information which would influence a decision on legislation. Without knowing what specifically you are asking beyond direct earnings and holdings - I don't know how I would weigh in on this.

2221201Jill GalvanState Representative District 18AFALSELPjillgalvan@jillgalvan.orgTRUEYesYesYesYesYesYesYesTransparency is key. How are people supposed to be informed voters and responsible citizens when officials' actions are protected and hidden. Police body cams are a particularly important issue that needs to be addressed at this time.

2290401Jonathan IsenorState Representative District 21BFALSEDFLJonathan@isenor4house.comTRUEYesYesYesYesNoYesYesI believe the legislative branch has a duty to preserve dialogue and open communication. I also believe the judicial branch and legislative courts should be public arenas with a balance of objectivity. I have concerns that cameras in the courts would be harmful to that objectivity as much as non-disclosure agreements hurt the community growth that comes from the public arena.
25
2220401Justin VoldState Representative District 18AFALSEDFLbeboldvotevold@gmail.comTRUEYesYesYesYesYesYesYesPublic servants records should be held as public records for the public to have access to if they so choose. Public servants should be held to a higher standard, as they are servants to the public. I feel the public has the right to know what their servants are doing while serving the public.

2540301Kristin RobbinsState Representative District 34AFALSERkristinrobbinsmn@gmail.comTRUEThank you for sending me your candidate questionnaire and background information. I appreciate your organization’s interest in the political process.

As you are aware, I am a first-time candidate for public office and am
still learning the issues and the views of the people in my district.
In addition, proposed legislation can change dramatically through the committee process, amendments on the floor, or in the conference committee.

Consequently, I do not believe it is fair to your organization or the members you serve to complete candidate questionnaires that may not be an accurate representation of what I may vote upon in the legislature. I welcome the opportunity to meet with members of your organization who reside in District 34A at any time, and I look forward to working with you in the 2018 legislative session in the event the voters choose to elect me on November 6.

I would like more information about current email preservation requirements to make an informed decision about this.

2750401Patty AcombState Representative District 44BFALSEDFLpatty@pattyacomb.comTRUEYesUndecidedYesUndecidedUndecidedUndecidedYesI am strongly in support of government transparency, as a current local elected official. I am unfamiliar with the specifics of many of these questions (i.e. how long government emails are preserved now or existing rules for cameras in courtrooms), and would want to ensure that any policy changes continued to protect the existing legal & privacy rights of employees, victims, minors and uninvolved third parties (i.e. police body camera footage when entering a private home for a medical emergency might be treated differently than footage of police responding to a shooting). I did not find that the yes/no format of these questions allowed for their complexity to be adequately discussed. If elected, I would be open to exploring the best approaches to improving transparency while balancing personal privacy.

2450401Sharon A. McGintyState Representative District 29BFALSEDFLMcGintyforHouse@gmail.comTRUEYesYesYesYesYesYesYesI have worked in industries where the idea of maintaining "an arms length" between transactions was a good thing and conflicts of interests were frowned upon. I believe that across the board, all legislators need to be aware that they were elected to represent their constituents and the state (or country in the case of the President) and THEIR interests, not their own. Any vote, policy or law that results from a legislator's actions should be free from question or doubt and above reproach.
46
2160301Sondra EricksonState Representative District 15ATRUERsondraerickson@q.comTRUEUndecidedYesYesUndecidedYesYesUndecidedGovernment transparency must be honored across the spectrum of government agencies and boards in the same way transparency is required of elected officials. And, to the extent possible, privacy must be protected on the personal side.
47
1880401Stephen R. MoellerState Representative District 1AFALSEDFLstephen.moellerfor1a@gmail.comTRUEYesYesYesYesNoYesYesI believe in transparency in all things. More information leads to a more informed populace and in turn better choices about who gets elected. However, I cannot, in good conscience, vote against “any” bill restricting camera use in courtrooms. There are interests present such as due process and victim’s rights concerns that need to be considered.
