My Dad bought this boat for me in 1967 when I was 15. We learned to sail it together on a local lake. When my parents moved to the RI shoreline it served as entertainment for various age visitors there. Dad always maintained it well, refinishing the wood and replacing parts, he even built a new rudder/tiller when the original was stolen off the dock. This summer my husband rebuilt the entire stern seat from solid Honduran mahogany. We are now trying to find the correct (original) pattern to use for building a new kick-up rudder and tiller as the one Dad made years ago doesn't work very well. Can anyone help us?

Bending in new inwales and gunwale rub strakes at the moment. New transom board installed & stern sheets just about ready. Breasthook & CB cover in also. Have been rethinking the rig during this overhaul in view of dinghy camping/cruising goals. I kept the original mast partners design when replacing breasthook so the original rig can be used, but modified the forward thwart to act as a mast step (I have detailed pictures is desired) and intend to make up a standing lug rig for her. I modified the stern sheets to make more room in the boat for sitting in the bottom for off-wind work and moved the center thwart forward to just over the aft end of the trunk cover board, with hinges to allow the starboard side of the center thwart to be folded over onto the port side out of the way for sleeping. Lost floatation will be made up by two 8X20" fenders hooked into the trunk (1 each port & starboard)--removable and usable as fenders or anchor bouy & out of the way for sleeping.

This boat was originally kept in Florida by the first and second owners. The second owner later moved to California and then to Idaho. I purchased this boat in 1990 and have used it in the lakes around this area. It still has the original dacron sail which is getting very close to needing replacement. I finished a restoration of the woodwork, gel coat and repainted the interior. She looks great! A canvas shop made a 42% main sail which allows me to take her into some fairly high wind situations and keep her heel comfortable. However it did increase the lee helm so caution is necessary. The use of a small boom vang is really a bonus for down wind runs and I highly recommend it's use. I've also found that an electric trolling motor is excellent for getting into and out of tight manuevering scenarios and will push this little boat at a nice clip which approaches it's theoretical hull speed of about 3.9 knts.

The plaque says Hull Number 647 I found her up in the Connecticut woods in 1988 and paid a nominal price to the owner. I restored her the first time on a shoestring budget. I made a new, slightly higher profile rudder which improved handling,if not grounding ability. This year I started over with much higher goals. The second restoration is almost complete. "Firecracker" now has a navy blue hull and cream interior. I added a canvas rub rail (from Hamilton Marine) The lifting eyes were done by Ohio boatworks and could probably handle a 1000 lb boat. I love the boat; we used it as a tender to my Morgan 32 until 1998 when we (temporarily) left boating. My children all learned to row and sail on it now but now that they are grown it was fitting to have her restored to match her new, more staid, duties as a tender to our new vessel.
