Teachers' contracts are for 181 days and cannot be converted into hours like we can do with students' instructional time. So while students do not have to make-up the first five days of the suspension, teachers still need to make-up that missing time to legally fulfill their contracts and avoid full-loss on their June paychecks.

CONDITIONS:In addition to the 6 hours of approved professional development to make up for the January inclement weather day:

Elementary and middle school teachers must complete 30 hours of approved professional development training outside of the instructional day to make-up the lost contract days on April 2-6.

High school teachers must complete 24 hours of such training, since they will work on May 25 to make-up the April 6 suspension day.

The extra professional development must occur AFTER 3/12/2018 and BEFORE 6/6/2018.

The extra professional development can include departmental, grade level, or committee meetings which include PD, but the five state-mandated trainings accessed at BPSTRAINING.ORG are also not eligible.

Valid options include :

• in-district professional development

• 6-12 teachers completing Kung Fu Canvas belts

• taking online workshops in Frontline Professional Development

• help with taking courses on a Chromebook

• out-of-district professional development

LAST RESORT:Some in-person technology training will be held on a district campus after May 29, but not enough will be offered to makeup the 30 to 36 hours of total professional development training teachers must earn before June 6.

Each teacher is responsible for tracking 24 or 30 hours of extra professional development in his or her own copy of this document.

• At in-person trainings, be sure you always sign the sign-in sheet at the inservice.
