Pittsburgh PiratesKumar RockerRHPVanderbiltJoeAt this stage in the game, the Vanderbilt Commodore celebrity hurler has done nothing to suggest he’s not worthy of being the no. 1 pick in the draft. Rocker has a great starter body with proven durability and has showcased his ability to go extremely deep into ball games. Rocker deploys a plus fastball that could ultimately be double-plus at the next level. He compliments the heater with an excellent slider and a changeup that’s really taken strides during his two years on campus. Fastball command will be key if Rocker is to ultimately hold down the top spot next July. He’s already a professional on and off the field. At this point it’s just about the polish.https://twitter.com/KumarRocker

Texas RangersJud FabianOFFloridaRalphMany feel that Fabian is the best all-around position player in the draft, and the sort of potential everyday star the Rangers system lacks. The Florida star can excel in all areas of the game but his combination of power and feel to hit give him the upside of an everyday above average right fielder. With lots of draft capital invested in pitching in recent years the Texas organization would be smart to take the easy money here. One of the few established college stars with a track record against high level competition. Swing and miss remains one of the sole question marks surrounding Fabian’s bat, but even that was reportedly improved this fall. He’s one of the few 5-tool potential players in the class.https://twitter.com/judfabe

Detroit TigersMatt McLainSS/CFUCLAIanDetroit and the versatile UCLA star appear to be a match made in heaven. Above average hit, combined with a true plus run tool gives McLain a solid floor. Of late, he’s started to tap into more power too. His bat speed, combined with his ability to manipulate the barrel in the zone could suggest a polished hitter that could move quick. With the glove, McLain has the tools to slot in at multiple positions including showing the ability to stick in CF long term. The biggest knock on McLain may be his smaller frame, but that shouldn’t scare away, especially considering the punch he can put into a baseball.https://twitter.com/mattmclain_

Boston Red SoxMarcelo MayerSSEastlake (HS)TylerBoston hasn’t picked in the top ten since 2015 when they took Andrew Benintendi with the seventh overall pick. Mayer has certainly closed the gap to Jordan Lawlar for the best prep shortstop in this class, and it may come as a bit of a surprise that he goes before Lawlar in this mock. There are plenty of scouts who prefer the upside of Mayer and the body/impact potential over how Lawlar currently projects. Mayer’s WWBA performance put a big up arrow next to his name, blistering the baseball all week. Scouts also love how easy Mayer makes it look on defense with smooth actions and buttery hands. So long as the body doesn’t outgrow the position, he’s a definitive shortstop. He may only be a fringe-average runner by the time he debuts, but that certainly doesn’t discount the upside of the bat and defensive package.

Baltimore OriolesJack LeiterRHPVanderbiltJoeAnother famous Commodore righty, many tagged Leiter as the presumptive no. 2 overall pick in this cycle, and that’s still very possible. As it stands, we have Leiter falling to Baltimore where he’ll pair nicely with young arms in Grayson Rodriguez and DL Hall. The Orioles front office has shown an affinity for big data when it comes to their preferred ballplayers. Leiter possesses plus fastball with plenty of ride, as well as two breaking balls and a changeup, all of which have flashed above average or better in his brief stint on campus. He’ll be a very popular watch in 2021 and has just as much upside as anyone at the top of this class.https://twitter.com/jackleiter22

Arizona DiamondbacksJordan LawlarSSDallas Baptist Prep (HS)IanArizona finds itself picking in the Top 10 for the first time since 2017, and finds a top 3 talent sitting on their board. Jordan Lawlar has been the consensus top prep player at Prospects Live for a few months now. There’s a chance here for 60 hit, 60 glove with the potential ceiling of above average grades spread out across the board elsewhere. Lawlar brings an advanced approach to the plate that is rarely seen in a player his age. He’s shown a fantastic ability to adjust mid-at-bat, as well as from at-bat to at-bat. It’s simply a polished, high-floor middle infielder with some ceiling. The Diamondbacks could use an infusion of talent in the middle infield in their system, so Lawlar falling into their laps is quite the gift.

Kansas City RoyalsKahlil Watson2B/SSWake Forest (HS)IanWe have Kansas City making the first splash of the 2021 draft selecting the firecracker shortstop out of North Carolina 6th overall. Watson has had as much helium as anyone in the 2021 class, seemingly each of his showcase performances louder than the last. A bat first middle infielder with one of the most visually appealing left handed swings in the draft, Watson possesses explosive bat speed and seemingly has a knack for getting good wood on the ball. It’s simple, natural loft that impacts the ball out front. The result is above average pull-side power. There’s a star quality about Watson. Kansas City can dream of a future middle infield of Bobby Witt Jr. and Watson, a tandem guilty of making just about any front office blush.

Colorado RockiesBrady HouseSS/3BWinder-Barrow (HS)RalphThe Rockies swooped in at nine overall in 2020 and scooped arguably the most talented player in the prep class. Moving up one slot in 2021, they land arguably the most physically talented player in the prep class in House. While he lacks Veen’s track record, House possesses elite physical and athletic attributes that make him a high upside pick. His ability to stick at shortstop coupled with his raw power provide a nice chassis to dream on. Questions surrounding his feel to hit and some struggles against quality pitching have diminished his once legitimate 1.1 buzz early in the process, but it’s hard to dispute how loud his tools could be with seasoning.https://twitter.com/Brady_house7

Los Angeles AngelsJaden HillRHPLouisiana StateTylerThe Angels would certainly love to add another arm to their system come July, and if Jaden Hill slides this far, General Manager Perry Miniasian should be thrilled. Primarily a reliever during his short LSU career, Hill will be making his way to the weekend rotation for the 2021 season. While he has touched 97-98 MPH this fall, the velocity was ordinarily 92-94 MPH. Hill still has a very good slider and a developing change-up to round out his arsenal, though he’s seemingly just scratching the surface of what he’s capable of. Hill didn’t even throw a breaking ball when he arrived in Baton Rouge, so developing feel for his repertoire should only improve moving forward. It’s a premier starter’s body and supreme arm speed and athleticism.

New York MetsAdrian Del CastilloC/1B/LFMiamiTyler Del Castillo may be the best college bat in this draft class. The Mets would be giddy to pounce and add his polish and close-to-immediate contributions to their system. He’s a bat-first catcher with strong recognition of the zone and a smooth, lofty swing. During the off-season, Del Castillo worked with Royals catcher Salvador Perez on his defense, developing better receiving and strike-stealing skills. If he shows he could stick behind the plate at the next level, there’s a good chance he buoys even further up our draft board. The Mets are primed to compete for NL East titles immediately moving forward, and it wouldn’t surprise us to see Del Castillo in their lineup during the latter-half of 2022.https://twitter.com/AdrianDelCast

Washington NationalsRyan CusickRHPWake ForestIan We make it easy on the Nationals, allowing them the opportunity to select one of the best collegiate fastballs in the class. In 2020 it was Cade Cavalli and Cole Henry. Cusick bolsters continues to bolster a system famous for going big on the college arm side. On the bump, Cusick is a free and easy 95-98, touching 101. It’s arguably the only 70-grade fastball by a starter in this class as it stands right now. A massive 6-foot-6-inch frame, Cusick creates elite extension and couples that with a very low release point and a close to flat vertical approach angle. It’s hell for hitters. You add in the fact he can really spin it and it’s a heater that simply won’t last long come draft day. Cusick is now throwing a true 12-6 power curve that mirrors the fastball, and mixes in a changeup that he’s flashed some feel for. A former cold weather arm who has limited wear on his arm could end up being a steal here at 11. So long as Cusick throws strikes in 2021, which he’s never had a problem doing, he figures to be a factor this early on draft day.https://twitter.com/RyanCusick33

Seattle MarinersHenry DavisCLouisvilleJoeEverything about Henry Davis fits what Jerry Dipoto and the Mariners seek in an acquisition. Seattle weighs the ability to control the zone heavily in scouting and evaluation, something Davis does better than just about anyone in the class (22 strikeouts and 21 walks in 200 plate appearances at Louisville). One of the most physical players in the entire class, Davis is a bit of a gym rat and it shows in his batted ball data. His max exit velo of 110 mph ranks among the best in all of college baseball entering 2021. Behind the plate, there’s above average athleticism and a 70-grade arm that will play immediately in pro ball. Some scouts have concerns over a flat, stiff swing, though that is something Davis has placed an emphasis on this winter. He’s a leader in the clubhouse and is a quintessential ballplayer who draws high marks for his attitude and desire to be great.https://twitter.com/henrydavis32

Calvary Christian Academy (HS)
TylerThe Phillies taking the best prep pitcher two years in a row? Certainly a good possibility as the organization has been shy to hunt upside. Painter has shown improved velocity over the past year, now topping out at 97 MPH and sitting in the mid-90’s. There’s a curveball and slider that he has good feel for, as well as a change-up that’s flashed above average. Command for his arsenal is average right now, so that will be a point of development as he jumps to pro ball. With a big, long, projectable frame and effortless operation on the mound, Painter is pretty comfortably the top prep arm in the 2021 class.https://twitter.com/Andypainterr

San Francisco GiantsColton CowserOFSam Houston StateJoeColton Cowser is a guy who scouts haven’t seen too much of just yet, though the limited film speaks to that of a pure hitter with burgeoning power. Cowser is a swing-tinkerer, constantly looking for the most comfortable position to hit. A lightly recruited prep, he draws high marks for his humility and curiosity in terms of discovering what he’s still capable of. Cowser is probably a corner outfield profile at the next level with above average speed. The bat could end up having two 55 grades on it as well as he continues to find his profile at the plate. Cowser has a great, long, projectable body that packs on good muscle. The Giants are big on culture and selecting players that will not only contribute on the field, but in the clubhouse and dugout as well. That’s Cowser to a T.https://twitter.com/CowserColton

Milwaukee BrewersEric CerantolaRHPMississippi StateTylerMilwaukee and data go hand-in-hand, and Cerantola would be an excellent fit in their rebuilding of the farm system. The reports on Cerantola this fall have been amazing, with a fastball touching 98 MPH and the hammer curveball in the low-80’s reaching spin rates near 3,300rpms. He’s also got a change-up that flashes plus, providing potentially the loudest arsenal in the 2021 class if it all clicks. Cerantola has struggled with control and command during his Mississippi State career, but if that takes a step forward in the spring, he’s destined to go early.

Miami MarlinsJames WoodOFIMG AcademyIanJames Wood making it to 16th overall would be a dream for Miami. Even we’re skeptical it will happen. Wood offers the most imposing frame in the entire 2021 class. Standing a cool 6-foot-6, 230 pounds, Wood still has plenty of physical strength projection to come and displays high level athleticism. It’s a very short swing for his frame. Wood also shows a keen ability to manipulate the barrel all over the zone whilst tapping into big raw power. The overall bat profile is among the “safest” in the prep class, while offering huge upside.https://twitter.com/jwood_29

Cincinnati RedsSam BachmanRHPMiami (OH)TylerCincinnati stays local with this pick, as Bachman resides 45 minutes away from GABP. Regardless, Bachman has made one of the biggest jumps in this class this fall, and loud data Cincinnati is sure to drool over. The fastball has touched 99 MPH this fall, more comfortably sitting 93-96. There’s a gyro-heavy, mid-80’s slider that tunnels well with the fastball and a change-up in the high-80’s that flashes plus with parachuting action. He’ll need to throw strikes in the spring and perform, but if he does, he could be one of the first college arms off the board.

St. Louis CardinalsAlex Binelas3BLouisvilleTylerBinelas to the Cardinals would be an absolute steal at this point in the first round. Binelas had a hamate bone injury in 2020, though that doesn’t take away from a monster freshman campaign in 2019. He’s got some of the best usable power in this class and strong plate recognition with an impressive 11.4% walk rate at Louisville. He’s a better athlete than he’s given credit for. The run, defense and arm tools all grade out at least average.https://twitter.com/AlexBinelas13

Toronto Blue JaysChristian FranklinOFArkansasJoeThe Blue Jays and their pursuit for consistency in centerfield is no secret at this point. Between Anthony Alford, Jonathan Davis, Kevin Pillar, Randall Grichuk and even Teoscar Hernandez, Toronto’s has tried a lot of names out there and nobody is yet to stick. Christian Franklin solves that problem. He’s a plus runner and a plus defender with an above average arm. At the plate, Franklin provides at least average power, though we’d hedge our bets on an above average power bat. The questions surround the hit tool and his strikeout totals. That will be the biggest development in Franklin’s profile. Ross Atkins is no stranger to drafting big tools, and Franklin fits that mold. He has some of the loudest batted ball events in college baseball over the past two seasons.https://twitter.com/CF13_

New York YankeesEthan WilsonOFSouth AlabamaRalphA name that often gets lost in the shuffle of the recent helium names on public draft boards is Wilson. A strong performer his freshman year with South Alabama, a mediocre performance in the shortened 2020 season and some questions around his quality of competition have dulled the buzz a touch. Make no mistake, Wilson can hit. It might be plus power, optimized to drive the ball with impact and loft. Wilson’s approach seemed to back up from his freshman season at South Alabama when he ran away with the Sun Belt Player of the Year award. The Yankees land another proven College bat in the mold of 2020 pick Austin Wells.https://twitter.com/ewils5

Chicago CubsHarry FordCNorth CobbIanIf the 2020 draft and Yu Darvish trade return are any indications, Chicago is looking for highest upside players it can find, regardless of age or ETA. Harry Ford might be the most talented player on the board at this point. He’s become the clear front runner for top prep C in the class thanks to some extremely impressive athleticism and loud tools. A true plus runner, Ford has been showcasing a budding power bat that led the showcase circuit in homers in 2020. Ford has the athleticism and glove to stick behind the plate long term, but the overall toolset would play anywhere on the diamond. It’s a high upside pick late in the first round for a Cubs system in the midst of what appears to be a step-back, rebuild.https://twitter.com/hford_13

Chicago White SoxSal Frelick 2B/OFBoston CollegeRalphThe top bat in the New England based Futures League this summer, Frelick showed his ability to move back and forth between the infield and the outfield. Frelick also dominated in the box, overwhelming the circuit at the plate. The Boston College Eagle is an undersized lefty bat, with impressive bat speed, a polished approach, and the ability to punish mistakes. He’s also comfortably a double-plus runner who figures to wreak havoc on the basepaths during his pro career. While Frelick may never be an offensive superstar, he should be a valuable and versatile player capable of impacting the game in a variety of ways. The White Sox add a player capable of fitting into a variety of roles while complimenting the back half of their current timeline. In a way, Frelick is Adam Eaton all over again, with the versatility to play some infield too.https://twitter.com/SalFrelick

Cleveland IndiansJoshua BaezOFDexter Southfield (HS)RalphOne of the loudest sets of tools in the draft, Baez possesses hulk-like strength and unusual twitch for a player of his size. The Vanderbilt commit and cold weather prep prospect is up to 97mph on the mound while also showcasing some of the best raw power in the class. There’s triple digit exit velocity power, present plus speed, and elite physical metrics with a notoriously strong work ethic. Cleveland isn’t afraid to take a chance on a toolsy prep player early (Carson Tucker, Yordany Valdez, Bo Naylor). The speed may fall a grade by the time he debuts, but this is an extremely high-ceiling stick that Cleveland has craved in their outfield for what feels like ages.https://twitter.com/Jbaez0628

Atlanta BravesJordan WicksLHPKansas StateTylerConsidering Wicks polish and track record, it’s hard to imagine a scenario where he falls out of the first round and the Braves would be happy to land another lauded arm. Wicks has seen a steady velocity increase throughout his Wildcat career, jumping from 89-91mph to 93-94mph this fall. The changeup might legitimately be double-plus with supreme conviction and command. There’s a slider and curveball to round out the arsenal, with the slider the more advanced offering. If he can hold serve during the spring, he could be a popular name in a year where so many players are unproven.https://twitter.com/wicks_jordan

Oakland AthleticsTommy MaceRHPFloridaRalph No pun intended, but the Athletics love athletic arms and Mace fits that bill. After reportedly pricing himself out of the 2020 draft, Mace heads back to Florida with a turbocharged arsenal. The fastball is up to 97 mph this summer and the feel for his changeup has reportedly improved. The breaking ball will be key in 2021 as Mace has always seemingly lacked a putaway pitch that makes scouts salivate. This year, things appear to be moving in that direction. Excellent mechanics, a deep arsenal, and a track record of big conference performance, Mace is the fast-moving starter profile that Oakland covets and needs.

Minnesota TwinsRichard FittsRHPAuburnJoeFitts really exploded onto the scene during the fall of 2020 touching triple digits and showing growth in his secondary offerings. Primarily a reliever over his first two years at Auburn, Fitts will assume a weekend rotation role in 2021 where he’ll look to be the next in a long line of Tigers starters drafted early (Mize, Burns). Fitts is a fastball-slider-changeup arm who saw the most growth from his breaking ball in 2020. If his command and durability prove strong enough to stick in a rotation, he’ll be a nice, high-ceiling find for the Twins here at no. 26.https://twitter.com/TheFitts43

San Diego PadresJackson JobeRHPHeritage Hall (HS)IanJackson Jobe burst onto the scene at PG National this past June showing up as a shortstop and leaving as a without-a-doubt pitcher. Seemingly out of nowhere, Jobe stepped onto the mound in June and spun mid-90s heaters with an absolute wipeout slider, flashing 70-grade. Jobe simply out-matched hitters his age, spinning the ball in excess of 3300rpms. A simple, loose delivery with some effort at the finish, Jobe commands his pitches well and has shown the ability to pound the zone in his outings. One thing scouts will need to see in the spring from Jobe is longer outings and a true third pitch to round out his arsenal. The changeup is there, and he’s thrown some good ones, but it’s reasonably unproven. The jury is still out on whether Jobe will be a starter long-term, but the value here at this stage may be too much to pass up.https://twitter.com/jacksonwjobe

Tampa Bay RaysDaylen LileOFTrinity (HS)IanThis pick just seems to make complete sense. Some could say a reach, but Lile possesses the best bat-to-ball skills in the class, and could be a true centerfielder at the next level. A very compact LH swing that shows the ability to spray the ball to all fields with ease, and should tap into some power at the next level too. A physical frame at 6-foot, 195 pound frame, Lile moves very well and will run down balls in the gaps thanks to advanced route running ability and instincts in the field. It may be a fringy arm, but that shouldn’t hurt him too much, especially in center field and in a modern-game that takes pressure off centerfield thanks to shifts. Tampa Bay gets one of the highest floor preps in the class, a treat for a player development system who’s proven time and time again the ability to optimize whatever clay you throw their way.https://twitter.com/DaylenLile

Los Angeles DodgersChase PettyRHPMainland (HS)Ralph
While Gage Jump is the people’s choice here, Petty possesses too much arm talent for the champs to pass on New Jersey prep star here. Up to 100 mph from a funky slot and low release height. A sinker baller with a plus slider and feel for his changeup. He’s not the biggest kid and there’s certainly some questions regarding how his mechanics hold up long term, but the arm talent the Dodgers covet is there. While the game is currently evolving into high fastballs paired with low breaking balls, progressive teams like the Rays and Dodgers have begun to collect turbo sinkers with cutter/slider variants.

Miami Marlins
Braden Montgomery
OFMadison Central (HS)IanMiami taking two OFs within the first 30 picks might seem like a stretch, but you always take the best player available. Not only is Montgomery a legitimate outfield prospect, there’s some potential here for a two-way player. A switch-hitter with good barrel control from both sides of the plate, Montgomery was one of the more polished hitter we saw this summer. There’s certainly a good bit of power in the bat as well. A centerfielder now, Montgomery likely slides into a corner as a pro where his plus arm and average speed should be a better fit. On the bump, Montgomery will flash a plus FB/CB combo with the heater getting up to 94 with above average spin. Miami adds a heady, polished prep here with some versatility and malleable talent into a system flush with high-upside talent.

Detroit TigersTy MaddenRHPTexasJoeMadden is the quintessential big school, pitcher-body arm that the Tigers and Al Avila have seemed to covet in recent years (Faedo, Mize). Madden has done nothing but produce in his two years in Austin. He’s built exactly how pro scouts like them. Tall, long levered, high waists, athletic. Why Madden falls to pick 31 and available here to Texas is in the stuff itself. The fastball has been hittable in the past and the two breaking balls are most often average offerings. The changeup has flashed above average from time to time, but Madden will need to find an out-pitch in 2021. He throws strikes and has the full four-pitch mix. Reports out of Texas during the fall were increasingly impressive, so we’ll see how much he’s grown here very soon.https://twitter.com/tymadden32

Milwaukee BrewersJP MasseyRHPMinnesotaRalphSupremely athletic starter with the mold of a smart, heady competitor -- just the type the Brewers organization covets. Massey has added 40 pounds of muscle since arriving to campus, a large chunk of which was added over the shutdown. The result is an arm now popping 97 mph. He features two fastball variants, a slider, curveball, and a changeup, the latter of which Massey describes as his wipeout pitch. For our money, the slider may be plus as well. It’s a starters profile that could bolster a Brewers system short on arm talent. If Massey comes out throwing strikes in 2021, his body and arsenal are a good bet to intrigue teams in the first round.https://twitter.com/jPeezy40

Tampa Bay RaysEvan ShawverLHPCincinattiTylerThe Rays pitching development has been top tier in recent years and they can add some fun clay in southpaw Shawver. Shawver has an explosive, riding fastball touching 94 MPH. The slider is gyro-heavy, falling off the table. He couples those pitches with a change-up that exhibits good fade and some tumbling action. 34Cincinatti RedsMalakhi KnightOFMarysville-Getchel (HS)JoeThere are few players who did more for themselves during the 2020 summer showcase circuit than Knight. The Marysville, Washington prep showed the ability to really consistently impact the baseball all year. His body is moving in the direction of a guy that can stick in centerfield long term. He’s a plus runner with a strong arm and great range and route running ability in the grass. In the box, Knight has a swing not too dissimilar from Ryan Braun or Mookie Betts. He does a great job keeping the barrel in the zone and produces natural, easy loft. He finishes with an athletic, high follow-through and produces loud exit velocities to all fields. Knight checks all the boxes of a high-upside prep and supplements that with the type of data the Reds have become famous for seeking in new player acquisitions.https://twitter.com/MalakhiKnight

The biggest question surrounding his profile will be whether he’ll hit at the next level, though he’s worked hard to iron out one of the big hitches in his swing.
