I started playing this game in August 2020 and have accumulated 1500+ in-game hours. This game can be pretty complicated, but it's totally worth the grind imo (: You start the game dealing damage in the single digits and can end in the millions!
6
This isn't an end-all-be-all way to affix, I'm still learning this game and this is what I've learned so far!
7
Now, let's get to affixing!

An Overview of Affixing

Terms Used throughout the doc:
18
Item: Refers to either a weapon or unit
19
Affix / Affixing: Refers to the process of adding augments to your weapons/units.
*I will be short-handing "slots" by "s" (i.e. "8s" for 8 slot item)
20
Upslotting: Refers to the process of adding an extra augment slot to your weapon/unit. *Choosing extra slots will lower affix success rate
21
Augment: The augments themselves that provide stats (i.e. Precision IV, Persona Soul)
22
Base Item: The weapon/unit being affixed. This item is NOT consumed
23
Fodder Item: The items being used to affix the base item (Depending on the method, the fodder item may or may not be consumed)
24
Special Augment Factor (SAF): This is unlocked on a weapon when reaching Enhancement Level+35 or on 13-Star Units Enhancement Level+10. These transfer at 100% EXCEPT for when you're upslotting
25
S-Grade Augment (SGA): These special augments can only be slotted on corresponding units/weapons w/ correct compatibility. These transfer at 100% REGARDLESS OF UPSLOTTING
26
"Junk" / Placeholder Augments: These augments are junk augments and are NOT a part of the final augments on your weapon/unit. They are a means to an end

Guidelines for Affixing:

Affixing can be done using weapons or units (items)

Affixing is done through the Item Scientists (Monica/Dudu) located on the 1st Floor Shopping Plaza, below the salon.

To affix augments to an item, you must have another item with the same number of slots or more. All materials used when adding augments will be permanently gone regardless if it failed or succeeded (unless you Transfer S-Grade Augment Transfer or use an Augment Insurance)

For example, a weapon currently with three augment slots can use any weapon with three or more augment slots as material.

Weapons can be used as materials for weapons, and units can be used for units. You can't use weapons on units or vice versa.

Status Ailment augments can only be added to weapons.

Presence of certain augments can increase the success rate of other augments present.

You cannot add two augments with the same name as one will overwrite the other. (ex. Freeze â…¡ and Freeze â…¢ on the same item.)

When using "Augmentation Aid Up" items to boost the success rate, the value is added after the "Slot Penalty" is applied.

When using "Soul Bonus" to boost the success rate, the value is added before the "Slot Penalty" is applied.

There are affixing simulators available that allow you to fiddle around with augments freely, you can also use these sites as augment databases for reference (See the links above^)

Depending on the Augment type, some augments conflict with one another. Anything with a "/", listed below cannot co-exist on the same item

66
Step 3: Prepare S-Grade Augment Fodder (if applicable)
67
Step 4: Slot on S-Grade Augments (if applicable)
68
Step 5: Upslot Item (if applicable)
