5/26/2015 7:57:395/223/15 The red section is open for the summer now. This is a great mostly one way section of road. Its not at all bad and you will be saying this is RED? some passenger cars were on the road so you can see its not at all bad. Anytime its open it can be ridden by any one in any weather(we even saw a couple of Harley's and several cars. But it is still very much worth riding, altogether about a 40 mile red route. Bronson 1

8/9/2015 7:16:25The optional red on this map is a beautiful mountain ride through the national park along the blue ridge. It's not very difficult and worth the extra miles. Firegirlnome@gmail.com

8/9/2015 21:12:10Skip Cades Cove. Too many tourist driving 10 mph. Plus the roads are so much better on the green routeTail of the Dragon was unbelievable!Areas after the Tail of the Dragon are sandy.

The lodge at Tellico wasn't opened. I had to go to Madisonvillefor a hotel since it was late.jerrj

5/18/2016 17:49:34Beautiful ride though the Great Smokey Mountain Park. Slow but beautiful. To finish the blue ride you_have_to go through Cades Cove to get to Parson Branch road (closed today-NPS says TBD) which is dirt and connects to Deals Gap. But the cars are only going 0-5 mph as they look for wildlife. Best to take the green bypass.Tailhooker

5/31/2016 14:47:38As of today... ATTENTION.. Car des Cove had a SOLID LINE of parked cars, supposed to be moving. They are trying to see animals. It was horrible...Remember, it's a LOOP.. BUT THE WAY OUT, the service road is CLOSED, LOCKED, CANT do it. So back in the non moving line of SUV's. Road it one lane with no way to pass. Lost three hours. So, if you don't know forest road is open avoid!!

7/3/2016 14:55:55Take the green route in this section. The road out of Cades Cove (Parson's Branch) is closed indefinitely. It was a good route, but the park service is concerned about downed trees.

7/14/2016 11:59:19The Parsons Branch road which is part of the Cades Cove blue route is not open in 2016 and may not be opened for many years or ever. Closed due to lots of dangerous trees and win damage. This means its a nice slow ride but you must go back and take the green road to Deals Gap.The Parsons Branch road which is part of the Cades Cove blue route is not open in 2016 and may not be opened for many years or ever. 3/12/2017 7:31:54I prefer Ironhorse Motorcycle Lodge in Stecoah to Deals Gap, only a few miles and they have WiFi and a nice common area. Dinner at Stecoah Diner is closer than Robbinsville,Parsons Branch Rd still closed in March 2017, may just be closed for winter, but check before going into Cade's Cove. I was there early in season and traffic was still 15 mph or less.Sanibel

4/26/2017 16:57:26The blue trail is mostly paved.Have to do the Red route. The Blue Ridge Parkway, then going up into the Great Smoky Mountain Park,The views are amazing. Saw a herd of Elk We took the Green route bypass of Cade's Cove and ran the Tail of the Dragon from Tennessee into North Carolina (north to south). Gotta do it if you never have.

At the end of the paved section of the Red Route is the beginning of the 28 mile forest portion of the route. There was a road closed sign across the trail. We were able to get around it, and it was well worth it. Great gravel road through gorgeous woods. Just do it. drjdvm

6/9/2017 6:09:32Cades Cove section very slow due to cars crawling - the back road out of Cades Cove - Parsons Bridge Rd I think its called, - is CLOSED. I was told due to fires last year. fireman

8/21/2017 4:30:49Ditto on skipping the Cade's Cove section. Parson's Branch is closed indefinitely. You will be sorry if you take the loop through the park. 5 to 10 mph in a line of cars while you and the bike overheat. Consider redesigning the TAT to exclude this.

8/29/2017 21:19:37Parsons branch is closed but it is possible to get a bike through to the left of the gate, with some help and sweat ! worth the effort, watch out for fallen trees and branches

6/25/2018 15:02:586/25/2018...I highly recommend the red route between Maggie Valley and Cherokee. The first half is paved then after that it's an easy gravel road that any big ADV bike can do. The scenery is well worth the extra time and I saw almost no one else the whole way. 6/25/2018...I verified this weekend that the trail from Cades Cove to highway 129 is closed and has been for the last 3 years. Follow the green route down Little River Rd towards Cades Cove then turn turn right at the sign for Townsend. Gas up in Townsend then take the Foothills Parkway to the western end of the the Tail of the Dragon (129).txmxrider
