5/21/2018 18:41:19YesYesThe role of money in politics is hurting our democracy-leaving individual citizens voiceless compared to a handful of wealthy corporations and entities with the money to back politicians. This leads to government that isn't truly representative of its constituents.Jordan Lysczek1CMd House of Delegates 1C301-857-3585

5/7/2018 17:13:11YesYesThere is too much special interest influence on critical issues that affect the health and welfare of our constituents. We must put the best interests of our constituents first and that won't happen until we eliminate the financial influence on policy decisions.Karen Lewis Young3AHouse of Delegates District 3A301-682-7339

5/9/2018 20:44:44YesYesI share the concern with the 96% of citizens polled and identify big money as a source of dysfunction in our political system. I fundamentally believe that larger donations provide an outweighed influence in the creation of public policy and access to political leaders. Removing this threat to democracy will create a stronger and more fair political system for all.Ryan Trout3ADelegate, District 3A240-529-7956

5/8/2018 9:37:56YesYesA candidate's "viability" should never be an assessment of her ability to raise money. A candidate's focus should not be raising money. Certainly no politician should be influenced by donors - unfortunately, those who are not are few and far between. Politicians work for the people and their actions in their roles as representatives should be influenced by voters. I pledge to represent voters, not corporations.Jessica Douglass4State Senate301-524-4425

5/19/2018 17:13:12YesYesCitizens United v. FEC was a bad decision that really has derailed the concept of democracy and how it's now beholden to special interest. This amendment will trigger and establish dialogues to be able to look at the role of big business and how it can proactively be involved in the political process. Darrin R. 5/7/2018 15:47:38YesYesBig money and dark money are polluting our politics. We need to reverse the influence of money on our elected officials. I was pleased to have been a leader in getting Referendum A approved in Howard County. Referendum A makes it possible for public financing of county races. We need citizen supported funding for all elected offices in Maryland. As an elected public official, I will do all that I can, and will collaborate with like minded legislators, to reverse the impact of money in politics, especially as it related to electing candidates.Dan Medinger9B

5/4/2018 22:56:04YesYesI am a Represent Maryland Small Money Candidate. But my opponent has a huge campaign war chest, largely funded by developers, landlords and the bail bond industry. Virtually unlimited campaign contributions are little more than legalized bribery of public officials. Contrary to the Supreme Court's Citizens United decision, money is NOT speech and corporations are not speakers. 5/4/2018 10:31:09YesYesI voted in favor of HJ 11 during the 2018 legislative session. That said, as I have shared with you previously, I am concerned about a constitutional convention and our ability to control the topics discussed. But if the options for expressing our concern with Citizens United is this or nothing, I will with some reluctance support this approach.

As an aside, I sponsored the State Legislature Local Public Campaign Financing Act (HB 227) to establish locally driven public financing of state legislative races. I hope you will support that type of bill as well.

5/18/2018 16:56:18YesYesI could be the poster child for getting money out of politics. We plan on winning here in d-16. Yet, we have spent under a $1000 on our campaign. Everyday, the amount of money people can spend on politics is sickening. I think if you look half decent and can spend enough you can buy an election. this has got to change. 5/4/2018 12:22:49YesYesJoint Resolution 11, as amended, accurately represents my views and desire to overturn the Supreme Court's opinion in Citizens United. The corrupting influence of large donations, particularly from corporate and other entities, has had a devastating impact, raising the costs of running most campaigns and favoring politicians who are willing to pander to those special interests in getting elected. 5/18/2018 18:09:28YesYesAmericans deserve to have a democracy that isn’t saturated with dark money, but that’s exactly what recent Supreme Court rulings have done: they’ve opened the floodgates to unlimited, unaccountable money being spent on our elections. The tragedy of these decisions is that that average American is likely not aware of who is purchasing millions of dollars in campaign advertisements to sway their votes. And oftentimes these funds come from a very small set of high net-worth donors. This means that small numbers of wealthy donors have an out of proportion impact on the voices making noise in our political campaigns. Average Americans deserve better -- and don’t deserve to have their voices drowned out, as is currently the case. Joel Rubin18

5/20/2018 23:38:56YesYesThis has been the most important political issue facing our country since 2010. The 2016 "election" was financed with dark money originating in Russia and elsewhere, proving the case that rather that money being simply speech, money has been the tool for the overthrow of our constitutional republic. 5/6/2018 10:17:45NoNoI have two concerns. First, I have no confidence that, once it has been cracked open, the Constitution will not be amended in ways the DAR organizers cannot imagine and probably would not want. Second, I believe that the true beneficiaries of initiatives like DAR will be incumbents, not voters. Having run two statewide campaigns in Maryland, I learned that the blizzard of campaign finance restrictions we faced were a true deterrent to our start-up effort, and a blessing to incumbents who generally can afford the massive costs of compliance. After DAR, I think only wealthy self-funders would be capable of paying the high costs of a state-wide race. The grass roots won't have a chance. Richard J Douglas21

6/11/2018 10:54:37YesYesThe single largest issue affecting our ability to create a level playing field for all Americans is the influence of special interest money in our politics on the scale that Pharma, the NRA, and oil energy lobbies donate to ensure their candidates continue to win elections. We won't make real progress on healthcare, common sense gun laws, or clean energy until we address how to ensure that our elected officials are accountable to the voters and not just to those with money. 5/4/2018 10:00:20YesYesWe must ensure that constituents, people who cast votes, are the primary source of funding for any campaign and whose voice matters at the polls. It is imperative that citizens, actual people, and their personal contributions make the largest impact and have the most significant voice in our election processes. 5/4/2018 9:22:40YesYesAs a college student running in politics, it is definitely dismaying to find many career politicians in what I believe should essentially be entry level political positions. It's also practically impossible to get them out of office when they have lucrative donations and a great amount of outside resources. As a candidate currently running on my own money, at least until the primary, I will gladly support this bill.Connor McCoy33

5/20/2018 13:25:27YesYesAs a grassroots candidate I believe that every American should be able to run for elected office because the more unique and diverse voices we have the better we will be able to solve the issues in our State and Country. However with the continued stat quo policies in politics which allow unlimited monies to fund campaigns will continue to promote that only the most privileged voices will end up being the representatives in our government. Due to this our government is doomed to continue to only serve a small group of wealthy people. So I support the overturn of citizens united because it has helped to cause more damage to an already damaged system. I also support creating legislation that will help ensure that all Americans have equitable resources to run for office. Until these things happen many grassroots candidates such as myself who are not bought or sold will continue to struggle against numerous factions of wealth to attempt to do the right things for our state and our nation. It is these stat quo entities that reside in my and other parties that are destroying the trust Americans have in the system. Americans have to do a better job of holding their representatives feet to the fire and my campaign is a raging fire that will be one step in achieving such in this political arena. 5/4/2018 11:08:17YesYesThis country was created by the people and for the people and not for large corporations and multi-millionaire individuals to buy elections. We, as candidates need to either all have grassroots campaigns by the people or have the government give each candidate a specific amount to spend depending upon the position of which they are running.
