NYC Council Needs to Pass No More 24!

Background information: In NYC, in-home health aides, mostly immigrant women, are forced to work 24-hour shifts but only get paid for 13 of those hours. These workers have gone on hunger strikes, pleaded with the previous City Council Speaker and Mayor, and held sit-ins in front of City Hall. Chris Marte has a bill, No More 24, to help these in-home attendents. The bill made it through committee, and Speaker Menin and Mayor Mamdani are both on record supporting the bill. Yet they just delayed bringing to to the full City Council for a vote. Working a 24-hour shift is a physical hardship and it is plain wrong to make these women work without pay.

"Hi, my name is (Your Full Name). My zip code is (Your zip code). I'm calling the Speaker/ the Mayor/ City Council Member (name) to ask them to support the No More 24 bill and to move forward immediately to end 24-hour shifts for home care workers. These shifts are inhumane and unsafe for workers and patients alike, and every delay prolongs harmful working conditions. Speaker Menin promised the workers she would bring the bill to a vote but she has not. Now these workers are beginning a hunger strike because the 24 hour shift is unsustainable to their own health. Can I count on you to support the bill and push for a vote in April?

Just spoke with Menins aid, stressed that the longer this vote is delayed the longer the workers are suffering, nY is one of the last states to have this poicy, so we knw othat working conditions do not have to be this way. Aide explained that even if a bill comes out of committee is does not necessarily get a vote, i said i understood that but as a constiuatnt my opinion was that is MUST get to a vote. submitted form. callded. c. marte , obviously he is on board. added keep up the good work.
