|Government of Alberta||Emergency isolation support||The Government of Alberta's Emergency Isolation Support program is now closed.|
Eligible working Albertans can receive a one-time emergency isolation support payment of $1,146 if they are required to self-isolate or are the sole caregiver of someone in self-isolation and they have no other source of pay or compensation. This is a temporary program to bridge some Alberta workers through a period of self-isolation until federal benefits are available.
You are eligible for the emergency isolation support program if you:
• have experienced total or significant loss of income and are not receiving compensation from any other source because you:
• have been diagnosed with COVID-19
• have been directed by health authorities to self-isolate
• are the sole caregiver of a dependent who is in self-isolation
You are not eligible for this program if you:
• were not working immediately before you were advised to self-isolate
• can work from home
• are not experiencing a significant loss of income as a result of self-isolation
• are currently collecting other forms of income support or employer benefits while self-isolated, such as workplace sick leave benefits or federal employment insurance (EI) benefits
• are staying home to care for a dependent who is home for a reason other than self-isolation
• reside outside of Alberta

|Government of Canada||Emergency Community Support Fund||Invested $350 million to improve the ability of community organizations to serve vulnerable Canadians during the COVID-19 crisis.|
The investment will flow through national intermediaries that have the ability to get funds quickly to community organizations that serve vulnerable populations.

|Government of Canada||Canada Emergency Response Benefit Act (CERB)||The CERB is a taxable benefit of $2000 a month for up to four months for workers who lose or have lost their income as a result of COVID-19. Eligibility periods are fixed in 4-week periods. If your situation continues, you can re-apply for CERB for multiple 4-week periods, to a maximum of 24 weeks (6 periods). Note: CERB extended from 16 weeks to 24 weeks; same eligibility applies. |
As of April 15th, part-time, contract, and seasonal workers now qualify for CERB.
To be eligible, you must meet the following requirements:
• You reside in Canada
• You are 15 years old or more when you apply
• You have not quit your job voluntarily
• You did not apply for, nor receive, CERB or EI benefits from Service Canada for the same eligibility period
• You earned a minimum of $5,000 income in the last 12 months or in 2019 from one or more of the following sources: employment income, self-employment income, or provincial or federal benefits related to maternity or paternity leave
For your first CERB application:
You stopped or will stop working due to COVID-19, and:
• For at least 14 days in a row during the 4-week payment period, you do not expect to receive more than $1,000 (before taxes) from employment and self-employment income OR you received regular EI benefits for at least 1 week since December 29, 2019
For your subsequent CERB applications:
You stopped or will stop working due to COVID-19, and:
• You do not expect your situation to change during this 4-week period and you do not expect to receive more than $1,000 (before taxes) from employment and self-employment income OR you received regular EI benefits for at least 1 week since December 29, 2019
• If you are currently receiving the CERB, and your situation continues past 4 weeks, you will need to apply for the CERB again.
If your situation continues, you can re-apply for another 4-week period, up to a maximum of 4 periods (or 16 weeks in total).
Eligibility Periods: An eligibility period is a fixed 4-week payment period. Each period has a pre-set start and end date. This means when you apply for the CERB, you will receive a payment for a specific 4-week period.
Affected Canadians are being encouraged to submit based on the month they were born in:
• Those born in January, February, or March should apply on Mondays starting April 6
• Those born in April, May, or June should apply on Tuesdays starting April 7
• Those born in July, August, or September should apply on Wednesdays starting April 8
• Those born in October, November, or December should apply on Thursdays starting April 9

• Over the phone with an automated phone service (1-800-959-2019 or 1-800-959-2041)
If you apply by phone, you'll need your social insurance number (SIN) and postal code.
Both of these services are available 21 hours a day, 7 days a week. Both services are closed from 3:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. (Eastern time) for maintenance.
After you apply, you should get your payment in 3 business days if you signed up for direct deposit. If you haven’t, you should get it in about 10 business days.
|Government of Canada||Canada Emergency Student Benefit (CESB)||Provides support to students and new graduates who are not eligible for the Canada Emergency Response Benefit. This benefit would provide $1,250 per month for eligible students or $1,750 per month for eligible students with dependents or disabilities. Canada Student Loans
|To support student and apprentice loan borrowers during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Government of Canada has announced its plan to pause the repayment of Canada Student Loans and Canada Apprentice Loans until September 30, 2020, with no accrual of interest. Pending parliamentary approval, these measures will become effective March 30 2020. This will include pre-authorized debits. These measures will provide relief to nearly 1 million CSLP borrowers in repayment. We will provide more details shortly.|
Proposed legislation would temporarily pause the repayment of Canada Student Loans.
Effective March 30, 2020, all student loan borrowers will automatically have their repayments suspended until September 30, 2020. No payment will be required and interest will not accrue during this time. Students do not need to apply for the repayment pause.
Students who are currently studying can continue to apply for Canada Student Loans. There will be no change to the application process. If a borrower wishes to apply for student financial assistance during the pause, they should apply through their Province or Territory of residence.

|A dedicated phone line for those who are employed who cannot work due to illness, injury, work closure, or quarantine to set up Employment Insurance (EI) claims due to COVID-19. |
• The one-week waiting period for EI sickness benefits will be waived for new claimants who are quarantined so they can be paid for the first week of their claim
• Establishing a new dedicated toll-free phone number to support enquiries related to waiving the EI sickness benefits waiting period
• Priority EI application processing for EI sickness claims for clients under quarantine
• People claiming EI sickness benefits due to quarantine will not have to provide a medical certificate
• People who cannot complete their claim for EI sickness benefits due to quarantine may apply later and have their EI claim backdated to cover the period of delay
If you are directly affected by the COVID-19 because you are sick or quarantined and you have not yet applied for EI benefits, please submit your application before contacting them. This will allow them to better serve you and prevent delays in establishing your claim. If you have already completed the application for EI sickness benefits whether you are sick or quarantined and would like to have the one-week waiting period waived, call the toll-free phone number.
Employment Insurance (EI) Work Sharing Program: which provides EI benefits to workers who agree to reduce their normal working hour as a result of developments beyond the control of their employers, by extending the eligibility of such agreements to 76 weeks, easing eligibility requirements, and streamlining the application process.

|Government of Canada||Registered Retirement Income Fund (RRIF) and Pension Plans||Reducing required minimum withdrawals from Registered Retirement Income Funds (RRIFs) by 25% for 2020. This will provide flexibility to seniors that are concerned that they may be required to liquidate their RRIF assets to meet minimum withdrawal requirements. |
Similar rules would apply to individuals receiving variable benefit payments under a defined contribution Registered Pension Plan.
Available April 2020: They will need to re-attest every 2 weeks to reconfirm their eligibility.

• By using UWCs existing local capacity, funds from the New Horizons Senior Program will be used to quickly address vulnerable seniors’ most urgent needs and the capacity of our front-line agencies.
• UWCs are working in communities across Canada alongside municipalities, local public health, community agencies and foundations to ensure funds are going to where they are needed most.

|Government of Canada||Disability Support Payment||A one-time, tax-free payment to individuals with disabilities who are certificate holders of the Disability Tax Credit as of June 1, 2020, as follows:|
$600 for Canadians with a valid Disability Tax Credit certificate.
$300 for Canadians with a valid Disability Tax Credit certificate and who are eligible for the Old Age Security (OAS) pension.
$100 for Canadians with a valid Disability Tax Credit certificate and who are eligible for the OAS pension and the Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS).
Combined with the special payments of $300 for Canadians who are eligible for the OAS pension and the additional $200 for those eligible for the GIS, all seniors with a valid Disability Tax Credit certificate will receive a total of $600 in special payments.
People who are eligible for this special payment will receive it automatically. Eligible recipients of these new one-time payments will not need to apply.

|Alberta Schools||All preschool programs and classes in K to 12 schools.||• Students across Alberta returned to class for the 2020/21 school year under Scenario 1: In-class learning with enhanced health and safety measures.|
• The health measures include enhanced cleaning, increased hand hygiene, staying home when sick, and physical distancing when possible.
• Mask use for grade 4 to 12 students and all school staff is mandatory where physical distancing cannot be maintained, including on school buses.
• All parents will be notified if there is a case of COVID-19 at their school.
• The COVID-19 school status map shows the current status of COVID-19 in K-12 schools across Alberta. Schools with 2 or more confirmed cases (within a 14 day period and where disease could have been acquired or transmitted in the school) will be identified on the map.

|Canadian Hospitality Worker Relief Fund||Relief fund||Providing $500 one-time grants to eligible hospitality workers on a first-come, first served basis.|
WHO CAN APPLY
Workers in the restaurant and hospitality industry, including delivery people, who have been adversely impacted by the pandemic financially through a decrease in wages or loss of employment. This one-time grant is intended to help with your day-to-day expenses like groceries, utility bills, rent or mortgage, and/or medical assistance.
Grants will be awarded to individuals who meet the eligibility criteria, as reviewed and verified by the fund administrators at the Design Exchange, until all funds have been distributed.
Funds will be available for hospitality workers living in Canada who:
• Are over the age of 18
• Have worked in the hospitality industry, including food delivery workers, for at least 90 days in the past year
• Have their primary source of income in the restaurant or lodging industry
• Have experienced a decrease in wages or loss of job on or after March 10, 2020
• Have the ability to accept electronic transfer payments (ie. Interac e-transfers)
Individuals related to employees or board members of the Design Exchange are not eligible for grants from this fund.

|Government of Alberta||Canada Emergency Commercial Rent Assistance (CECRA)||The new CECRA program will be aimed to help small businesses pay rent (including non-profit and charitable organizations). |
It will provide 50 percent of monthly commercial rental costs.
CECRA will provide a loan retroactive to April 1 to qualified commercial property owners supporting 50 per cent of rent for April, May, and June of this year.
The program is anticipated to be running by mid-May and will be administered by the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC). Further details on CECRA will be shared by CMHC in the coming weeks when final terms and conditions are available.
|Government of Alberta - Ministry of Community and Social Services||AISH and Income Support, and Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB)||AISH and Income Support recipients who have lost work and income because of COVID-19 can exempt a portion of the Government of Canada’s Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB), if they receive it. This means a portion of the CERB payment will not affect their provincial benefits. Details about exemptions can be found on the website. |
