Crayon portrait of unidentified manA crayon portrait of an unidentified man, possibly from the greater Portland area, probably created circa 1860-1890; and a newspaper fragment formerly used in its frame as padding. Crayon portraiture was a photographic process used to enlarge photographs from about 1860 until the early 20th century. The portrait was formerly in the possession of a Forest Grove resident and may depict an early Forest Grove community member, similar in appearance to Sidney Harper Marsh. The portrait was removed from a ca. 1900 frame; the fragment of an unidentified national 1908 agriculture newspaper was using as padding within this 1860-18901 oversize folderMS.18 (Oversize)

Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints PamphletsThe Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is a Mormon denomination that has traditionally practiced polygamy. Its leader, Warren Jeffs, was sentenced to prison in 2011 on sex charges. G. Orlo & Mathilda Jefferson CollectionDr. G. Orlo Jefferson (1860-1949) was an optometrist in Portland Oregon, and also a trustee of Pacific University. He and his wife, Matilda J. Calhouns Jefferson (1859-1933) traveled extensively in the Western United States, the Middle East and Europe. The bulk of the collection is made up of photographs, diaries, and travel documents relating to the Jeffersons' journeys, which are particularly interesting for their documentation of early automobile travel.circa 1900-19201 boxMS.40

Henry H. Spalding Record BookHenry H. Spalding was a missionary in the Pacific Northwest who is best known for his work with the Nez Perce from the 1830s-1870s. This record book consists of two parts: the records of the Preble Wigwam of the Order of the Star Spangled Banner, 1855, for which he served as president; and notes from his missionary trip to the Spokane Indians in 1873.1855-18731 folderMS.74 in MS File Box 2
