Mr. Elbing is director of bands at New Bern High School. Since beginning at New Bern, the band has grown from 40 musicians to over 150 students involved in various concert bands, a competitive marching band, and an active winter guard (2015 and 2016 AIA class medalists). The concert bands have consistently earned Superior ratings at MPA and have performed at regional events such as the National Adjudicator's Invitational. Students from the NBHS band have made All-District and All-State Bands, as well as the U.S. All American Marching Band.

Mr. Elbing will also be serving as the Eastern District Solo and Ensemble chair starting in 2018.

I am a percussionist so I feel equally qualified to judge percussion as well. I am a 18 year veteran teacher from Eastern NC. I am National Board Certified and have spent all 18 years as a high school director. My experience in the classroom and success in competition give me a great depth of knowledge to give quality feedback with numbers and rankings that are fair and accurate.
