1944115201912November 1944The Vegan Society"Veganism is a way of living which seeks to exclude, as far as is possible and practicable, all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose." What is the etymology of the word? According to Donald Watson, one of the Society's founders, they took the beginning and the end of the word "vegetarian" to represent "non-dairy vegetarians" who also ate no eggs.https://proxy.duckduckgo.com/iu/?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.vegansociety.com%2Fsites%2Fdefault%2Ffiles%2Fuploads%2FSharing%2Fvegan_society_og_image.jpg&f=1Image Credit: The Vegan SocietyDefinition of veganism#298A08

19701970"Speciesism" PamphletRichard D. Ryder of the Oxford Group and, later, Mellon Professor at Tulane University in 1996, penned this influential pamphlet. He writes: "Since Darwin, scientists have agreed that there is no ‘magical’ essential difference between human and other animals, biologically-speaking. Why then do we make an almost total distinction morally? If all organisms are on one physical continuum, then we should also be on the same moral continuum." Read the entire pamphlet here.#002147
