42 | Introduction to your SIP/ School Profile (appoximately 100 words) | Whittier School has a rich history of being a school that pushes and excels students to reach their full potential. This is done by ensuring that there is equity provided to all students. Here at Whittier, part of that history involves ensuring that the Armstrong Act of 1968, the integration of students, is strictly adhered to. This is done primarily to ensure that diversity is an essential part of who we are as a learning community. We believe this history of integrating students has been a strong foundation of learning here at Whittier School. Likewise, part of our history was restructuring the attendance boundary, to become a K-5 school in 2009. This restructuring was a mandate by the district. Some of the characteristics of our school which makes it attractive to our parents, and especially our students, is the fact that each young scholar that walks through the door has an exceptional academic, social emotional, and purposeful learning experience. Chief among all of the characteristics is the fact that Whittier School offers small class size, dual language, and a highly qualified staff. In addition, we offer an extended building to provide more academic space for our students. One of the final characteristics, equally important to the four mentioned above, is the fact that Whittier Elementary School has an updated, state of the art, technology component that allows our students (at a click of a button) to learn, study, and grow from anywhere in the world. | |||||||||||||||
