4 | VTEEA’s Program of the Year Award is one of the highest honors given to Technology and Engineering Education programs and is presented in recognition of outstanding contributions to the profession and students. The Program of the Year Award provides public recognition at the local, regional and state levels. During VTEEA’s annual conference, honorees are formally introduced to the Awards Ceremony audience and presented with an engraved plaque during the VTEEA Summer Conference. | ||||||

6 | The Program of the Year program is designed to recognize superior Technology and Engineering Education programs in Virginia State. These award-winning programs serve as a standard for comparison and models for the development of other programs. Therefore, it is essential that each program selected and recognized reflects contemporary Technology and Engineering Education curriculum and practices. Program of the Year awards are available for elementary, middle, and high school programs. The following are minimum requirements for the VTEEA Program of the Year Award: * The program teachers must be appropriately certified and involved in on-going professional development. * The program teachers maintain the philosophy that all students should and can learn about technology and apply its principles in everyday life. * The program must reflect a Technology and Engineering Education philosophy and curriculum structure, and it must incorporate contemporary teaching strategies. Additionally, the program must model activities or units of instruction using state and/or national standards. * The program teachers should demonstrate an understanding of the relationships between technology and other areas of study in the school * The curriculum must have been written or revised within the last five years. * The program must have the support of the building and district administration. ** Applicants for Elementary Program of the Year must also be active VCEC members. | ||||||

8 | Nomination Process: December 31 - Deadline for nominations. January 5 - Distribution of awards applications packet to nominees by Committee Chair. January 10 - VTEEA & ITEEA Membership status is verified. January 15 - Completed application packets (short-form) are submitted to the Committee Chair for distribution to Regional Presidents for regional committee review. February - Elementary level winners from previous year recognized at VCEC conference. March 1 - Regional winners are notified of their respective status in the award selection process. April 1 - Completed application packets (long-form) are submitted to the Committee Chair for distribution to state committee for review. April - Site visits by Committee Chair. May 1- State/National winners are notified of their respective status in the award selection process. June 1 - Confirmation of conference attendance by winner (plus guest) and administrator. July/August - Public announcement and awards are presented at the VTEEA Conference. |
