17	Monday, April 19	1:00 - 2:30 p.m.	Knee Surgery Viewing and Doc 101	In this session, orthopedic surgeon Dr. Clifford Colwell shares a prerecording of a knee replacement surgery. Dr. Colwell explains the surgical process, and to answer any questions about the viewing and provide a DOC 101 session, we have Family Medicine resident Rachel Van Hollebeke.	Scripps Scripps AHEC	Dr. Clifford Colwell is a retired orthopedic surgeon who enjoys providing presentations on knee and hip replacement surgeries to our local youth. Dr. Colwell graduated from Michigan's medical school in 1962 and then went on to attain his residency in orthopedic surgery and an orthopedic fellowship. He has over 25 years of experience performing knee replacement surgeries. Dr. Rachel Van Hollebeke is a second-year medical resident at Scripps Mercy Family Medicine Residency Program. Dr. Van Hollebeke graduated from the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine in 2019. She attained her bachelor's degree in human biology at Standford University in 2007. Dr. Hollebeke received the University of California San Diego Regents Scholarship. She played for the Women's Professional Soccer Team from 2009-2015. Dr. Van Hollebke is a two-time Olympic Gold Medalist and FIFA Women's World Cup Silver Medalist. 22	Thursday, April 22	10:00 - 11:00 a.m.	Sharp ThinkFirst Injury Prevention and Careers in Rehabilitation	The Sharp ThinkFirst injury prevention program is designed to prevent children, teens and young adults from suffering the lifelong effects of a traumatic brain or spinal cord injury. This session will incorporate a healthcare professional who will discuss anatomy, physiology and potentially lifesaving information as well as personal testimonies from individuals who live with these disabilities. The testimonials comes from individuals known as VIP’s (Voices for Injury Prevention) who openly and honestly share with students how making a different and a safer choice could have prevented their injury. Additionally, you will learn about how careers in physical rehabilitation such as physical, occupational and speech therapists work toward increasing independence and improving quality of life for individuals with these permanent disabilities. 23	Thursday, April 22	1:00 - 2:00 p.m.	Resilient Careers in Biotech for a Resilient Earth	In this Resilient Careers in Biotech for a Resilient Earth SciChat, Dr. Ana Paez Garcia will talk about her career trajectory and her current research as a part of the team working on the Salk Institute’s Harnessing Plants Initiative. HPI is an innovative approach that relies on Earth’s existing carbon storage mechanisms to help solve climate change. To keep more carbon in the ground, and store it in long-lasting roots, Salk scientists are developing a new generation of crop and wetland plants. SciChats is a video-conferenced-based science outreach program that pairs students with a volunteer scientist for an interactive conversation about what it’s like to be a scientist. SciChats gives students a clearer picture of how science progresses, highlights the people behind these discoveries, and illustrates the contributions that science makes to our society. Rather than strictly teaching content, SciChats embraces students’ curiosity by letting their questions dictate the discussion. 24	Friday, April 23	1:00 - 2:00 p.m.	Health, Wellness and Career Advice with Planned Parenthood	Representatives from Planned Parenthood will provide insight into the services it offers, a virtual tour and promotional video to explore the facility's environment, and a discussion with the medical director and an assistant technician. The discussion with representatives will include descriptions of the representatives' career path leading both of them to Planned Parenthood, including the education and training they received to become eligible. The representatives will also provide information about how students can start their journey down a health-related career pathway that would lead to an organization or health center such as Planned Parenthood, with descriptions of entry-level positions and the requrirements needed to fill those positions.
