It does keep losing connection, but it does that on my phone, android tablet, my mum's ipad etc. So that's nothing to do with Waydroid. It works for the most part, but I did notice that every time I click to play one of the minigames, it kicks me to the Waydroid desktop. The game is still running, but disconnected in the background.

2/10/2024SaliqGuardian TalesWorking​You will need to go to setting by clicking on screen, then switch to "Use controller" option present at the bottom. After that it has been smooth sailings so far. The controller is not configurable and the application that you are on is waydroid so Steam deck's own key mapping won't work in the game. No audio delay or anything else noticed atm.

However it's impossible to progress past the starting point becuase the gyro controlls are impossible to use (they seem to maybe work, but barely, don't take my word for it) and you can't get into the menu to change it till after the tutorial, but throttle on steam deck controls works good.
