Planned HIDOE Career Pathways & Programs of Study
4
This Google sheet provides the most up-to-date version of the Hawaiʻi Department of Education (HIDOE) Career Pathways and Programs of Study (POS) planned to be offered at each HIDOE high school. This data represents a snapshot in time and will be updated annually as schools' plans change. The purpose of this document is to communicate to stakeholders the types of career pathways and programs of study that will be offered at each public high school. Hawaiʻi P-20 led the initiative to collect and compile this information for public consumption. The data was collected through the HIDOE CTE District Resource Teachers who work closely with their assigned schools. Hawaiʻi P-20 will update this information on an annual basis.

Background
7
HIDOE is in the process of moving from 6 career pathways to 13 career pathways, which align much closer with the 16 National Career Clusters. Each HIDOE Career Pathway consists of 2-5 Programs of Study. A Program of Study (POS) is a career focused sequence of courses that prepare students for college and career. Within a Program of Study, there is a sequence of four levels of courses, which include a work-based learning (internship) option.

Implementation & Rollout
10
The rollout of the 13 Career Pathways started in Summer 2020 and will run through the end of the 2023-2024 academic year. High schools have selected specific career pathways and programs of study to offer. At each high school a combination of a variety of factors determine which career pathway and program of study to offer, which include but not limited to, student interest, facilities, equipment, faculty expertise, and local labor market demand. Currently, every high school has the autonomy to choose which career pathways and programs of study to offer. High schools may opt to change career pathways and programs of study offerings on an annual basis due to student enrollment, availability of qualified teachers, and/or priorities outlined in a school’s academic plan.
